My great grandfather fought in that war. He was a Sergeant and a Band Leader, but most importantly he was CANADIAN. The conditions were very hard on the soldiers. Thank you for making this video.
"To those who fall I say: You will not die but step into immortality. Your mothers will not lament your fate but will be proud to have borne such sons. Your names will be revered forever and ever by your grateful country, and God will take you unto Himself." General Arthur Currie
Thank you for this tribute. My only 'complaint' is the use at the end of a quote by an American General...may I suggest researching something by Griesbach?
what an amazing country back then. europeans of all nationalities fighting under one banner, one culture as brothers. thats how a nation should be unlike the canada today
The population of Canada in 1914 was about 7.2 million and 64,944 servicemen died and 2,000 Canadian civilians died as a result of ww1 so 0.93% of the Canadian population at the time was killed the only other allied country to have more of a % of the population killed was Australia. And the U.S with a total population of 92 million only lost 0.13% of the total population.
How many Canadians and how many Americans died in WW1? I'm an american and my great great grand father was attacked by mustard gas. Maybe the US and Canada should end its alliance with Europe and other countries? We have more than enough resources to live much more prosperous than we live now.
@mizzoulibertarian because creating rivalries like that would create a world war 3....the aim of NATO, and the UN are to bring about world unity and peace....there cannot be peace without unity
World War 1, when Canada was finally noticed as a country on the battlefield. Are Canadian troops fought hard in that war. They deserve the best of rest.
fighting for your promissed land is one thing , fighting for someone elses is something canadians have been for many nations. I just hope they'll remember that when we will be in need.
The men who served in the first world war have given our boys a great reputation. We were and are feared by our enemies. We may be a small force, but a force to be rekoned with.
The pic at 1:16 is from WW2. Beautiful music, BTW.

@originalcanadian1 You know I read that when the soldiers heard general Currie say that they were not very happy with him.
