During WW2 some 600 000 women served as combat troops in Red Army. Medics were engaged in combat as well. I don't remember her name, but in battle of Stalingrad this young Moscowite dragged about a hundred wounded to the safety and killed fifteen fascists herself. Other lady dragged 22 wounded men in a single day, while was hit three times herself.
I'm glad they made Enemy at the Gates and i've also read Vassilys Zaitsevs memoirs, but they should definately do a film about Ivan Sidorenko, that man was the true terminator for the Soviet Union.

Enemy at the Gates is a film which drama is a fight between two snipers, not about Leningrad Battle itself. In Leningrad Battle you have a lot of factors to take into consideration, in an ussual American film where two guys fights each other, you have poor to analise.

It's not a competition. They were both extraordinarily talented and brave men who were doing what their country called on them to do in the best way they knew how. Comparing one to the other is pointless and degrading to their memory, don't turn this into some sort of game.

Just a note, the video mentions Major Erwin Konig. Specifically in regards to a duel between Vasily Zaytsev (which vasily also mentions). However, there were no records of any such Major running the sniper school for the Germans, so this sniper duel is unclear as to whether it was true or not. Of course the records may have been destroyed during the war (maybe bomb or fighting damage somewhere), but its not 100% that major Konig actually existed.
The main reason why Russia had so many snipers was that most Russian children were taught to shoot by a young age,school taught target shooting to all and the state awarded various certificates.They had excellent shooters to start with in the majority of their youth,unlike most other countries where few if any had shot.The Russian government gave them a little field training and sent them out.
This war was a nightmare for all Russians, everyone lost someone in this war.. Like for example every 4th Belorussian was killed... Total 27millions Russians was killed and maybe even more, comparing to Germans 6.5 millions in total. It's not a competition. They were both extraordinarily talented and brave men who were doing what their country called on them to do in the best way they knew how. Comparing one to the other is pointless and degrading to their memory, don't turn this into some sort of game.
Sasha also makes a very good point, Soviet snipers were very selective of their targets (as were their German adversaries and their brothers in arms in the West).

Just a note, the video mentions Major Erwin Konig. Specifically in regards to a duel between Vasily Zaytsev (which vasily also mentions). However, there were no records of any such Major running the sniper school for the Germans, so this sniper duel is unclear as to whether it was true or not. Of course the records may have been destroyed during the war (maybe bomb or fighting damage somewhere), but its not 100% that major Konig actually existed.

The main reason why Russia had so many snipers was that most Russian children were taught to shoot by a young age,school taught target shooting to all and the state awarded various certificates.They had excellent shooters to start with in the majority of their youth,unlike most other countries where few if any had shot.The Russian government gave them a little field training and sent them out.

Total 27millions Russians was killed and maybe even more, comparing to Germans 6.5 millions in total. German also has made Pact of no aggression whit USSR in 1939 and USSR and Germans attacked together to Poland in 1939.
