@Bigmanbam44 because Id didnt stay true to the Doom essence. I've never played Doom3, but from what i saw, it's too dark (like doom64) only 1 hell level, and it's slower compared to the originals. Only 1 hell level? Really? Did they forget where doom takes place? I know the darkness is supposed to add fear, but its hard to enjoy a game where you cant see anything. Kinda like Doom64 where you had to turn the brightness all the way up and it still wasnt enough. the game isnt fun if you cant see.

They made it clear early in the game with giving you a flashlight, and trust me, if you played doom3 when it was out, it was very rewarding and fun to use the flashlight, you felt like a detective while watching the beautiful detailed enviroment. The problem was, they should have given you a flashlight on the weapons. That's when it became boring and dark, when shooting. It was also slow as you said, and PDA's became repetitive and slowed the game.

Still though, you should know id Software has only been working on Doom4 for about 3 years, and mostly the concepts. The harcore work on it begins this year when they release Rage, which is the game they've been working on all this time, not Doom4. You can look up Rage at Id Software's site :)

Doom 3 was pretty tight... I always love a game where the start is calm and normal-ish. People to talk to, everything is steady and slow going... And the computer terminals are always fun to play with, also in Time Splitters.
It would be great if they would stick to the old game design like in Doom 1 & 2.. But that would not work out well, would it now? Because todays youngsters wants it all to be so damn new and fancy, or else they will not even touch it.. damn youth of today..

Now what that means is that it is very possible that Doom4 will be mostly played by those who have played and enjoyed the original doom games, whereas those who didn't won't. This also means that really the only people that will play Doom4 will be those who enjoy Doom. I don't think introducing what made Doom so great into Doom4 will be such a bad thing.

Oh I hate it when people assume they know Doom4's release date. They didn't have a single scrap to show at QuakeCon 2010, so obviously the game will be release at least a bit later than 2013
@legopikmindude Doom4 won't be out at that time, that's RAGE. Look up Rage, it's another game they've been working on. Todd Hollenshield has already spoken alot on Doom4, and in 2010's QuakeCon it was still in pre-development... and they're not gonna make a game in a single year. They're idSoftware, they take they're time, and that's how you know it's gonna be good.

Doom 4 is gonna be a graphic bomb. ID said they want make it with 60 fps and graphics even better than RAGE. (ID Engine 5)

i must say that doom is supposed to be a horror game, its the mother of first person shooter games so if there's no horror then its a disgrace and they should not be allowed to call the new game DOOM, and also doom kinda needs to have narrow corridors to keep that sense of horror its ok for them to make it a bit more open just so u can walk around a bit, horror is what makes DOOM, DOOM!!!

In addition, Carmack said that Doom 4 will run at 30 fps for single player and 60 fps in multiplayer, stating that "you can't have 30 guys crawling all over you at 60 frames per second at this graphics technology level because it's painful." "Just a game" it's like saying "just a book" or "just a painting": you are diminishing all the possible artistic value, the metaphysic meaning or even just the emotional meaning this game (in the sense that it is art -or something more close to pop art in this case) to the player. Yes, this dude is a little confused I would say, but don't let that opaque the real value of a game as a work of art.

They have officially anounced the release of doom 4 and that it is in progress, but the date is unknown. Let's just not hope that it ends up getting "Oh, bats ate our paperwork" or "Oh my, a skunk came and did his stuff on the disk, the game was already finished" like a few games that have been supposed to be released like 10 times. Doom 3 was pretty tight... I always love a game where the start is calm and normal-ish. People to talk to, everything is steady and slow going... And the computer terminals are always fun to play with, also in Time Splitters.

Now what that means is that it is very possible that Doom4 will be mostly played by those who have played and enjoyed the original doom games, whereas those who didn't won't. This also means that really the only people that will play Doom4 will be those who enjoy Doom. I don't think introducing what made Doom so great into Doom4 will be such a bad thing.

Oh I hate it when people assume they know Doom4's release date. They didn't have a single scrap to show at QuakeCon 2010, so obviously the game will be release at least a bit later than 2013

@legopikmindude Doom4 won't be out at that time, that's RAGE. Look up Rage, it's another game they've been working on. Todd Hollenshield has already spoken alot on Doom4, and in 2010's QuakeCon it was still in pre-development... and they're not gonna make a game in a single year. They're idSoftware, they take they're time, and that's how you know it's gonna be good.

@legopikmindude Ah, I know where your info came from. IGN wrote an article about "Doom4 Coming Sooner Than You Think." But all they say is that since the team at Id has expanded, the game will take much less time than Rage to make, yet they never said it would be ready in a year or 2.
-Anyway, I get that you hope to see the game soon, I myself am just DYING to get my hands on Doom4, and if they show it at QuakeCon 2011 then there's a chance it will be out by 2012... scary yet good news! :D
