@scorsese1 Uh yeah but john bonham is one of the best in rock music. I agree with you though. I used to argue whether buddy rich or gene krupa was the best ultimately I went with buddy. I mean the guy was a beast, in the 50s he was doing stuff that could wreck rock drummers even today.
i dont know how neil peart gets slammed. if you like drummers you should like neil peart. ive always liked JB but thiis was a little sloppy to me, he's probably a "little" drunk. you would never see peart drunk.
@mgruiz88756 John Bonham's my favourite drummer, but I would never say that Neil Peart sucks. If you don't like his style I can understand that as I don't really like his style a lot. He's still an incredibly talented drummer.
@drummerboy1234567100 c'mon - you don't really mean that. - i saw bonzo on 4tour's and yes,he was the best i think that he would've admired neil peart and thought well of his band
@Cincinnatus1869 as a drummer I totally get the whole role as a percussionist in any organized band, let alone a rock band, however, we are talking about technique and procession here bottom line Bonzo was a fabulous rock drummer and a pioneer for sure and one of my MANY influences, but Chambers could and can do everything he did in this solo with 10x times more speed and accuracy. But they do have 2 different styles, much like me and you do. Guess we can agree to disagree man...
At 9.38 pause it, that is one scary arsed seriously, really scary and psychotic look, that is not John Bonham the loving, kind, family man at home, that is Bonzo the alcohol fuelled, high octane, demonic, hard rocking, hard drinking, hard partying Led Zeppelin nightmare drummer on tour that so sadly died at 32. Such a shame a man so talented was afflicted with such a dark and self-destructive alter-ego.
@TheLedzep007 ...LZ are my fave band ever. Bonham is a monster drummer, brilliant and inventive, but Peart is a better technical and creative drummer. I love both drummers, you really shouldn`t be asking who is the best rock drummer! The question is "do you like rock?"
My friends, zep played 5 nights, not easy to do , due to their style! (AWESOME BY THE WAY), zep didnt bow down to their home land, england never took zep with open arms like THE U.S!
@TheLedzep007 who the fuck are you to say anything? They were ALL the best.. Not just my favorite John Henry.. If any of them died the band would have stopped.. John Is my favorite drummer and my favorite influence just like a lot of other fellow drummers.. But i was just saying.. If he wasnt piss wasted during this concert this solo would have been better..
And ya your right the band would suck if i was in it.. but at least they would have you as a groupie sucking them off ya fag
@RJiminez51 what the hell is wrong with you. you absolutely dumb asshole if you could do a fraction of what he does then maybe someone might listen to you.
He earned the craft of essence. He was able to play loud, hard, soft/loud/ and all in between. My question is, He was a bricklayer by trade. How did he come to this talent? No training? Wow. Of course I am trying to perceive the gap between bricklayer and awesome timekeeper.
I started playing guitar because of them. Recently I wrote and recorded some songs. If you want to hear how Led Zeppelin-inspired music sounds 2011 style click on wisztrock. I think you'll like it.
my ears always melt by hearing Bonzo soloing! there is no doubt that he was, is, and will be the best drumer ever. i just hope he is always remembered. JOHN BONHAM ALL THE WAY!!!!
john bonham was 25 when this was recorded, think of what he accomplished in 10 years of drumming with Zep ? he defined rock drumming, his signature sound has made the biggest impact in drum history, every engineer that ever mic'd a kit wanted to get the mojo that came off of Bonham...imagine what he would be like today ?
@screamoisonmymind you're nuts...there is no drummer in rock that was as dynamic as John Bonham, except Keith Moon, and Moon didn't solo (except during every song)...no odrummer has matched the feel, the rhythm, and the dynamism of this solo, it can't be done !
I'm a drummer and I wish I had a fraction of the skill bonham had, he's just fucking awesome, everytime I hear his solos I jizz involuntarily in my pants, and have to smoke a cig afterward.
I had a Vistalite set back in the seventies too. Worst sounding drum set ever although John's snare was always spot on perfect. Ludwig with a Remo and perfect tune. Sounds great.
not to mention his perfect meter, not many drummers can solo and click the Hi Hats in time, I wish every drummer in the world would watch this and at least take notice of how drums are to be played.
@RichieEastside Bonham gave many things to music.his playing ownes,he was playing jazz into hard riffs and many other amazing teqniques that no1 never made. Please listen (since ive been loving you-dazed and confused)and you will understand:)
Great comination of jazz and rock drumming. And he played with his bare hands. Also great snare control playing matched grip. Not easy if u r a REAL drummer. Bonzo was a man among boys. He was one strong MF.
This is definitely not the best example of the moby dick solo. In some of them though, he can't be matched, he is the drum god. I make a daily sacrifice of a calf to his holy power.
@MrTooz3 I'm not knocking Johns skill or Zeppelins sound as a whole at all, in fact In My Time Of Dying is my favorite Zeppelin song. But I watched this video then right after I watched Dennis Chambers solo at the China Club, then came back and watched this video again and feel that Chambers would beat the shit out of John Bonham in a drum off. 2 different techniques and 2 different styles I get it, but I feel like Dennis is better, sorry...by the way Dennis uses one foot most of the time
@nahmeanyaheard24 Still not on point. Here's the difference, there is a "Bonham sound" - you know it when you hear it. It lags on the beat just a bit, on purpose and still in the pocket, it exudes "SEX". There is no "Chambers sound" - it is standard gifted jazz drummer - I am not knocking Dennis. But I could not tell without looking whether it was Chambers or say Rayford Griffin. Moon, Mitchell, Baker, Peart, on and on - all great rock drummers. But in the end
@MrTooz3 i am in no way saying moon is a better drummer, but he also had a very distinct and unorthodox sound. and baker has a sound most of the time too
@Chazone27 Agreed, I was debating with @nahmeanyaheard24 on "sound", and who would win a "drum off". To what context? So and so can't play Bonham better than Bonham in Zep, no different than for Moon/Who, Baker/Cream, Mitchell/Experience, or Peart/Rush. They are all great and there is no "best drummer". It is their sound that helped make their bands great and them legends.
But I also say BONZO RULES ALL ROCK DRUMMERS! I did not say "best", just that he is the epitomy of "rock drummer"!
@nahmeanyaheard24 a drum off ? That shows that you do not understand a percussionists role is in the format of a rock band . Its about embellishing the songs , and if other drummers would understand that , then someday Bonham will have an equal in the rock game
@nahmeanyaheard24 That's BS, for starters Dennis isn't the right "type" of drummer for Zep and certainly doesn't play with the power of Bonham. You miss the point of Bonham's genius and that HIS sound is a key part of the Zep sound. You couldn't put Moon, Baker, Mitchel, Peart, or Chambers, and on and on in his place and still have Zep. When he died, so did the band - enough said! And he only needed ONE foot for his monster bass triplets, seems Chambers uses two. BONZO RULES ALL ROCK DRUMMERS!
Bonzo had it all: the legendary right foot, powerful dynamics, unbelievable groove, ghost notes from hell, passionate soulful playing, great hand speed, triplets, cross- overs, awesome stamina, deep pocket, and on and on....A one-of-a-kind genius the likes of which this world will (sadly) never see again. RIP John, you are dearly missed.....
One of the greatest rock drummers to have ever lived. He had it all, independence, speed, amazing musicality, and some of the most thunderous groove ever to be witnessed. One of my main influences and idols early and today. Ohhh how I wish he was still alive !! BUT, to all those who say greatest please stop. There is no greatest . What you guys need to do is check out Tony Williams, Buddy Rich, BILLY COBHAM (who was drumming circles around everyone in the 70's). And that's the short list.
When it comes to jazz drummers, Bonham reminds me most of Sonny Payne who was Basie's drummer for a time.

BONZO RULES ALL ROCK DRUMMERS!!!

Its about embellishing the songs , and if other drummers would understand that , then someday Bonham will have an equal in the rock game

dennis chambers would have shat all over bonzo in 75

@nahmeanyaheard24 People will still know and love Bonzo in 3075 and people will still say who the fuck is Dennis Chambers.
