I'm sure Rick Derringer & Suzi Quatro were the same person because, did you notice, you never actually saw them both at the same time (hmm??). No just joking... Rick's a great player and that Les Paul Custom looks wonderful! I never realised just how tiny he is inspite of the stack heels back then.
Edgar winter is a creepy guy without being albino. but him and johnny are great musicians and the nicest people. playing along side with rick derringer just makes an incredible band
I see what looks like 4 Ampeg SVT heads and cabinets onstage! if Winter, the rhythm guitarist and Dan Hartman were going through those, man what a wall of sound!!
hope ya all know what im talkin about, ya big ol fat thing really knocks me out, high all the time, hope ya all are tooo, come on little mdsyy let me do it to you.... jump on out and spread the news.....
@MrJoehenry44 Yes, they look funny to young folks who did not live through the 1970's. Men wore their hair long then. Now, many men shave off their hair to the skin, which was only true of prison inmates back then. These young men lived in a different world: (1) There was no HIV, so they got laid more than you could believe; (2) The average American was about 25% richer than now, but also 25% thinner; (3) Most of our industrial base was still intact---and not yet in China. Food for thought....
@bboucharde ...Exactly...I was a Soph in Highschool in 73 and 3 Sport letterman, I could not grow my hair out because of sports but I was at the concerts, buying records and smokin' killer Lebanese and Afghani Hash that the rolltrolls today would only dreMabout...I think this concert was shown on "IN CONCERT" the anti "Midnight Special" TV show....They showed Helen Reddy and EDGAR WINTER GROUP was on IN CONCET...and we were baked watching this pre MTV GOODNESS!!
@MrJoehenry44 Page 2: And, you are probably aware that Rick is one of the ten best rock-blues guitarists in the history of rock music. His artistry is amazing. If I could go back to that exact place and time,* I would do it in five seconds. *(Los Angeles, 1973)
Good stuff. The good news – New Wave/Punk/Metal etc were about to arrive on the scene. The bad news – disco/glam/new age/etc were just around the corner too.
i thought this song was from 1976. from what i've observed for over 3 decades the years 1972-74 seem to be a dead zone for music but i do know you have to live through a period of music as a drug-free adult to know what was really out there and not judge a time period in music by radio which picks the same shit they think people should hear.
@The096757 Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, and Yes were all kicking a lot of ass during that time, to name a few. They were making such albums as Dark Side of the Moon, Fragile, and Close to the Edge. Although, I realize that you might not be into that kind of stuff. I sure love it though and would say it's worth a look. Also, the Dead were playing kick ass live shows during that time. You can check some out on archive.org.
Now I see who Randy Rhodes patterned his look/stage presence after. This vid ought to be must viewing for any suburban American guitarist my age, as even though I was only 5 it was what we all aspired to be; Rhodes was professional gloss on an existing image nearly none of us saw.
60,70, 80 Best Rock areas!! Gone down hill from there, Theres a Few Bands now a days trying to bring it back old school, I am a young guy in my 20s but 70s area is my favorite Rock era thanks to my Dad
Johnny Winter didn't write this song, Rick Derringer did. Also, that was not Ronnie Montrose on guitar (standing behind Rick), that was Jerry Weams a.k.a. Jay Brown. Ronnie Montrose quit in early '73 and reformed his own band.
Rick Derringer is one of the best rock guitarists ever. I have to correct the previous post that Johnny Winter did not write this song. Rick Derringer did. He wrote it FOR Winter, to hopefully make Johnny more popular in the rock world.
I wonder how that went down.. Rick Derringer x-bandmate of Johnny Winter doing Johnny's song with Johnny's brother Edgar. I spose Johnny did well with the royalties that Derringer brought him...but just wondering how Johnny felt about all that, he was so hungry for fame in those '70s and most people don't even know he wrote this song.
Awesome job of uploading. I remember partyin' to this tune when it came out back when we were 7th graders. Damn good era... Sabbath, Floyd, Deep Purple, Allman Bros., Black Oak, etc.
The 2nd guitar was Jerry Weems. Replacing Montrose after he left.
