not true. people have gone to F# and above in falsetto (eg. leona lewis in lovin you. the note is clearly not a whistle becuase when she scales back down, the timbre doesn't change). the whistle register does not have a common 'start note' as people often think. whistles are characterised by their timbre and tone, not their frequency.
falsetto can go all the way up to C7 if properly trained... E6 is just where it ussually ends. christina very rarely uses whistle as her falsetto goes up to G#6 :)
Christina can hit really high notes but she doesnt do them often. She saves them for live performances and few studio recs. Whistles arent good for ur voice. Mariah's were legendary but she doesnt do them any more. Christina is preserving her voice. It has def changed in the past couple of years, and i admit her live performances arent the same. She low belts and growls alot more. Singing non stop for years does that. Her voice is still perfect and with proper rest she can sing the roof off.
Listen, I don't agree with Rocketo, but is just damn ironic see people saying the kid is distorting Christina's range when I read several times "Christina only can TOUCH a E5 in a good day". Is like, well, I guess I made my point.
The audio for that video is bad so it could be an A5 but it tested right against her studio G5 but regardless it was virtually a yell. Just because a musical note comes out of a singer's mouth shouldn't count in their range if there is ZERO control. The note was harsh and raspy, you can tell it was just a yell and shouldn't be added to her belting range, not when Patti, Jennifer, Vanessa can belt the fuck out of an A5.
Exactly. Enough is enough with distorting this girl's range, god its almost as bad as those "Whitney did a D7 whisle" WH fanatics. Its funny because soooo many fans are always saying its not about high notes with Christina and YET they make all high notes video and look for her highest belts LOL.
lol, I know right. for me is C3 to F5. that's it. I'm not even counting her F#. She's not having trouble with them now. But I've only heard like 2 of them.
Well I can. First off the audio was horrendous so how could that not be "clear". LOL if Christina squeaked out a C6 some fans will think she belted it. Until she can belt and hold that A5 like her C5 (preferably WITH vibratto) or belt it like Patti and Jennifer, THEN I'll count as her belting range. For now, it was merely a YELL, F5 is her highest note she can control, maybe G5 but time will tell as she improves.
omg. rocketto, that note was a G5. And it doesn't matter if it's an A. If she can't do it as frequent as her Fs, or even F#s, then it ain't gonna b counted. We would all want Christina to go higher. But Christina's 5th octave belting already gets the job done.
I don't wanna be a bitch, so I really respect your opinion. Is just that for me there's not all this artisc merit on "Then a hero comes along with the straight to carry on...there's a hero lying in you" or something. I mean, I know gives streght to a lot of people, but, you know, there's a lot of cliches in there. To be fair, I don't like Christina voice within either for the same reason.
For me are not rich or inovators, unique lyrics, they just ok.
LOL DAMN that was kinda rough LOL (unless you're imitating mel or just joking). I think lyrically, TVW isn't too bad but whenever I hear that I just focus on her vocals really and not the words, especially that bridge where she starts going high (studio version of course).
I focus on the lyrics. That my favorite song from Christina. It gets me so energized especially when she goes high because that's when her poignancy level rises. That song works miracles on everyone. Even xxforeverlambxx who is a Mariah fan, LOVES that song. He quoted a part of the song and put it as his myspace message. that songs is amazing. Everything about it is so raw and honest.
I gotta disagree with that. I don't believe in the artistry of a gal, who can't be a good interpreter on her own songs and that make lyrics, yes, but most of than are just really stupid.I remember when you said that Bee is too comercial, that's how I feel about Mariah, she has no artistc edge, actually she not even grown up, she is at 38 sayong how she don't wanna her flick on youtube.
In a million years she is not better than Whitney as a artist
i wish christina takes some opera/classical vocal training and then she'll be able to hit all her notes and more with ease which will make all her haters shut up for good and then there'd be no need to continue making such vids to prove her range
I've always said that. I don't know why she doesn't. She has such an amazing potential. She could truly be at the level of Whitney, Celine and Mariah. But without those lessons, it's gonna take a really long long time for her to reach it.
naw, they are all on the same level. Even though Mariah's voice doesn't have the meat that Whitney's or Celine's does, she can do a lot of other things that make up for it. And let's not forget, she's one of the best whistlers the world has ever heard. To me, they are all the same. But Whitney reigns as the best.
So what, her whistling and HV was trained since she was 5, opera trained. And I gotta say as a opera singer, not the best I ever saw.Far from that that. I'm not even gonna tell about the lack of power in belting or how raspy her notes could be for a so trained singer. I forget all that.
But as a artist, in terms of stage presence, interpretation skills is like she, she is really, really bad on that. What's the point of a singer with no emotion?
nop, you still can't cross her out of the list. Because she has more control than W/C, goes higher AND lower in ALL vocal registers and she just outright has such mastery of over such an expansive range. I do agree that voice alone she is nowhere near W/C, but you just can't phase out the fact that she's damn amazing. And artistically despite the fact Mariah has zero soul, she's miles ahead of W/C artistically because let's not forget Mariah has written over 100 songs. and that deserves credit.
Not as a singer, actually the fact that she can't be a good interpreter for her own song sux a even bigger time. I don't care about her range, that don't make Jessica Simpson a better singer than Christina is not gonna bring Mariah close to Whitney.
And, again, Mariah has a better dinamycs than Whitney. Better control? I don't think so. Her breath support far from great.
????? we have to get a Mariah vs. Whitney video, so that we could see who is the one with better control. I disagree on dynamics. Whitney's are hell of a lot better than Mariah. But Celine reigns as having the best of the best. and I think Mariah is a good interpreter. With songs like Can't Let Go, Hero and My All, she certainly has some good interpretation. But it isn't really soul. W has soul. C has a little. But she's too technical.
Cause no way I think Mariah gotta a better control than Whitney or Celine or any singer with a good control.
And I think Mariah sux in interpretation especially in "My all", that's a trully sexy song, and Mariah, she tries a lot, but she fails a lot in give some saucy or sexy interpretation on anything.
you can't say mariah's breath control isnt great Dont forget about us live she held the whole note completely live and she ddnt breath exactly before she sang the whole phrase then held the note and lead the way is a 19 second vocal run ... and yes mariah does have better dynamics even when she started out she wouldn't belt out the whole song she knew when to make the note lighter and when to reinforce them
actually she did di the dont forget about us note live and it was amzing, mariah, whitney and christina all have amazing breath control im not denying christina's im jst saying dont deny mariah's. n i ddnt understand the rest of ur comment with petals..
She shows all the lack of breathing support in this particular song. I'm not denying Mariah's, she is a great singer, great breathing, I don't think so
Eh, I think its dumb to include Mimi writing her songs as REAL artistry, MANY singers do that but REAL talent, IMO, is composing the notes like Stevie, Prince, and JL, not putting chords together after the computer has done all the work. You are right, Mimi is technically better than Whitney. Whitney's breathing in her prime wasn't that good AND her jaw would warble when she vibratto-ed alot, that's a BIG no no. But Mimi was trained, Whit was not, so its expected LOL.
yeah, but she's writtin the actual lyrics to the songs. I get the composition and instrumental arrangements. but lyrically, Mariah is a damn GENIUS! I can't imagine having written or co written over 100 songs. WOW, and let's not forget, she does co-produce the tracks as in she helps out in instrumental arrangements. She said this in some new interview with some British dude. It's not all computerized. Whitney has the better voice. Mariah is the better artist. that's how I see it.
Yeah I see what you're saying. I just compare her songs to Stevie Wonder or John Legend adthink, THOSE are classics I will hear fifty years from now not Touch My Body. I will say in modern artists, Mimi's songs(some of them especially on her EOM) are very heartfelt. Don't forget your girl Chris to, her writing skills aren't to shabby, no classics IMO but no bad.
Christina's writting ability is crazy good. too bad she doesn't get much recognition. I don't really know about Stevie Wonder, so I can't say anything about it. But John Legend ain't all that. I have his Get Lifted album and it seemed like it was lacking something. The songs r good. But it's too much about love. And I didn't like how Kanye West was rapping about having a lover. that threw me off. But I can't really judge him. I only have one album. But lyrically, Stripped is
the best album I've heard. But Mariah is miles ahead of Christina only because of seniority. 100 songs is crazy. I can't imagine writing over 100 songs. i know she ain't the best writer. But in my book, she definitely has a lot of credit.
Exactly. Its not the same like Mimi whose mom was professionally trained opera singer. Cissy Houston learned like many greats did, experience and some church singing.
glad that someone sees things my way. with proper training she could be the next whitney for pop/soul and the next sarah brightman for opera/classical.but if only she did =(
Sweet! I've been wonderin when you would return. I agree with you about the G and G#. They are rough, but i think they are belts. They're not hit using falsetto so that's all that you could call them....or is there some other classification that I'm unaware of?
she's done Gs several times. It's not like it was a one time lucky shot. The G# is a belt. But I wouldn't count on her to hit it again. But if she improves like she has been, then hell to the yes. during the last month, there have been so many videos surfacing about Christina hitting Fs, F#s, Gs. It's crazy.
Well it was more of a head voice thing. If you check out Celine attempting her high F in alone live (I believe in tokyo) you'll see what I mean. Anything past F#5 are usually yells plus there alot softer then her other belts, compare it to ANY live belt of hers and hear the difference in intensity. I just think the notes too high for her to mix and sustain even with training, F sounds like her cusp, even when she belts them well.
Sorry for deleting it so many times and putting it back up, I just kept making mistakes lmao. I have no patience to edit things before I post them. =\
???? northern star??? OMG, don't even mention his name when ever you are talking about people who make great vids. WHOA. that dude blocked me like 10 times because I say it like it is.

why have you got A5-G#6 as falsetto????
You can clearly hear that her highest falsetto is Eb6 and her whistle starts at E6, you can hear it. Eb6 is about the highest falsetto you can go.

not true. people have gone to F# and above in falsetto (eg. leona lewis in lovin you. the note is clearly not a whistle becuase when she scales back down, the timbre doesn't change). the whistle register does not have a common 'start note' as people often think. whistles are characterised by their timbre and tone, not their frequency.

she's done Gs several times.
