Is Zucker a natural Castrato? Why has he interviewed so many great opera stars, is he a critic? (god I hope not) I heard him singing "Ah mes amis" and it was truly awful. I'm not being nasty I'm just saying what I heard. I think perhaps he really is a male version of Florence Foster Jenkins.
@meesteropera ZUCKER IS NOT A WEIRDO AT ALL . HE HAD HOSTED A RADIO SHOW CALLED OPERA FANATIC WHICH I HAD LISTENED TO MANY TIMES . I THINK THE HIGH LIGHT OF THE SHOW WAS THE TENOR CONTEST BETWEEN CORELLI, DESTEFANO TUCKER & DEL MONACO WHICH HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB GATHERING INFORMATION ABOUT THE 4 SINGERS AND TAKING CALLERS VOTES & OPINIONS OVER THE PHONE . BUT HE DOES SOUND WIERD AND SINGS ATROCIUSLY . BUT I DONT THINK HES NUTTY&GOOFY BUT MAYBE A LITTLE WIERD . ENJOY
I am almost sure that the problem this guy has is called puberphonia, excessive tension on the muscles of the larynx results in a high larynx position which produces that female sound. This can be corrected with vocal training... ironic, ha?
If you listen closely, you can hear him slip down into his real voice, which is a normal male voice. What we are hearing on this interview is a totally fabricated voice.
Zucker holds the record for singing the HIGHEST note ever sung by a tenor. That record cost him his natural voice. Read up on his life in BEL CANTO SOCIETY webpage. I have bought oodles of VHS from Bel Canto and it's wonderful to have older operas as well as many singers preserved on recordings, thanks to Stefan.
Zucker is mentally ill. He has a form of musical psychosis, made worse by artists granting him interviews.

doug92067,
I tend to agree with you. When he speaks in English his voice goes down... when he does it in Italian sounds unnaturally high

I have heard the whole interwiew in belcanto. It is great! It's a pity, that Corelli didn't sing more on it.
