Actually, that isn't anything remotely close to an African. It is a barred midas cichlid (not a hybrid), which is in the same genus as the red devil.

My freakin word. Are most of you idiots? That fish is NOT a Convict, and Convicts DO NOT get larger then about 6". I don't care what someone told you, or what you bought it as. The black fish is some form of a barred Midas. The orange fish is a Midas, not a Red Devil. A Red Devils body is not nearly as tall as the Midas, and the mouth shape of a Devil is a V where the Midas is shaped like a U. As for fighting your fish like this, makes you no better than Michael Vick, you should be in jail.

convicts do grow bigger than six inches i have raised a pink and a striped convict and both were just bare over eleven inches. the striped convict got lighter as it got older. they eventually died of natural cause i had them in a custom one hundred twenty gallon i raised them from fry. the parents never got that big neither did there siblings.

Trying to tell me that the (definately a terror) acura would be totally cool with the tetras in my 30 gallon. @awinski999 You are wrong. The nuchal hump is present in the vast majority of male specimens from both species (as well as, in rare cases, females from either species). The fish in this video is most likely a hybrid of the two (as are all of them that you will see in an average fish store). The only way to obtain a pure specimen is by ordering directly from a reputable breeder, and even in pure specimens, the physical differences between the species are minor, at best.

I've noticed there's a lot of people saying that this is a Midas and not a Labiatum. From the clarity of the picture, as well as a lot of other different other variances, there's no way to look at this fish and say it's either by any scientific means. Also, there's a third subtype of Red-Devil type fish, and all three forms will have various color morphs, shape morphs, and the likes. Now... as it comes to fighting, although Razor Fish is dead now from a gill disease, he'd of slaughtered them >D

Video quality is pure shit. However its clear enough to see thats not an African fighting the RD. It looks like a good sized black Convict (or a female Barred Midas as they look quite similar at 4-6" and vid quality is crap). In either case these fights wont stop. A Red Devil, Midas or Convict (never underestimate Convicts, they can be quite brutal to fish 3x their size) will almost always be quite aggressive towards each other. One of those fish has to go, or one will end up dead.
