  • The 90's were so awesome!

  • CONSEQUENTLY IN THE 1990s in the philippines, there was a detergent called, Sunlight

  • 1898?! WOAH!!!

  • It would be a soap, not a detergent. Detergents were yet to be invented.

  • LOL there were something called projectors in 1898 obviously. tv at that time was not around but there were silent movies of course.

  • hahahahaahahaahahahahaahahah lolololoolololololoololololololoololololo There was no televisions in the 1890's they didn't come until the late 1920's into the 1930's so i don't know where the hell you got that at but i don't believe do you have proof.

  • @Corleone2239 Do you know something called cinemas? This played on movie theaters.

  • this fucking creeps me out i duno y lol

  • No! They were already doing ads then in moving pictures? I must have been asleep when they mentioned that. I am shocked.

  • I am looking for a Sunlight commercial that may have been done in the 90's, it was a very upbeat song, no one seems to have it, can anyone find it?

    Ty for posting this:)

  • @danicadb1 Well, this one was done in the "90". LOL

  • @danicadb1 Well, this one was done in the "90's". LOL

  • That is amazing! *forwards it to ALL my friends*

  • Yes, they had commercials before the big invention, television..they were shown along with the flickers ..now called flicks or movies (the film would 'flicker' against the projector ); They also showed the news, sports and other world events at the movie houses...as they were called then. Thanks for the film footage..very interesting!

  • I didn't know they had commercials before TV days.

  • wow! is this very old?

  • there are still some people alive today that would have been a little older than the baby in this old film. The world's oldest known living person, Edna Parker is 115 and was born on April 20th, 1893!

  • @nineteen99 Edna died.

  • Aw... The three-year-old keeps looking back at someone after getting the cloth. She probably had no idea what was going on.

"Non, ma cherie, donne-le à ta soeur! À ta soeur! Zut...! "

  • that baby prlly died like 30 yrs. ago

  • Washing clothes back than had to be a total pain in the ass! O_O

  • I wonder what ever happened to that little kid.

  • She grew up, got old and died. :(

  • Sunlight soap is an English company from Merseyside, the Lumiere brothers, pioneers in the film industry placed Lever Sunlight Soap into some of their films in the 1890's , hence the birth of soap operas that we have today. Good stuff.

  • 49-second clip, the actual 1898 commercial starts at 00:13. Interesting that about half a minute was considered the "right" length for a commercial here at its' birth, and has remained the standard ever since. The fact that the only words are "Sunlight" and "Fin" is a sharp contrast to most 1890's print ads, too.

  • It was the first commcerical-understanding 19'th century psychology means that the producers likely figure showing people using the Sunlight product would entice people to buy it.

  • My guess is that at the time when it was decided to advertise in a theater, they wanted the public to view it as a very very short film and didn't come up with the concept of the commercials of today and different from print advertisement.

  • THATS VERY OLD!

  • looks like just an old, old, film of woman doing wash. where is the commercial aspect. its neat, i wonder who those people were.

  • Now that's what I call a soft-sell!

  • coool

  • That was cool. :)

  • WOW THAT'S OLD

  • Hmm...not exciting, but still, it's a nice piece of history
