hahahahaahahaahahahahaahahah lolololoolololololoololololololoololololo There was no televisions in the 1890's they didn't come until the late 1920's into the 1930's so i don't know where the hell you got that at but i don't believe do you have proof.
Yes, they had commercials before the big invention, television..they were shown along with the flickers ..now called flicks or movies (the film would 'flicker' against the projector ); They also showed the news, sports and other world events at the movie houses...as they were called then. Thanks for the film footage..very interesting!
there are still some people alive today that would have been a little older than the baby in this old film. The world's oldest known living person, Edna Parker is 115 and was born on April 20th, 1893!
Sunlight soap is an English company from Merseyside, the Lumiere brothers, pioneers in the film industry placed Lever Sunlight Soap into some of their films in the 1890's , hence the birth of soap operas that we have today. Good stuff.
49-second clip, the actual 1898 commercial starts at 00:13. Interesting that about half a minute was considered the "right" length for a commercial here at its' birth, and has remained the standard ever since. The fact that the only words are "Sunlight" and "Fin" is a sharp contrast to most 1890's print ads, too.
It was the first commcerical-understanding 19'th century psychology means that the producers likely figure showing people using the Sunlight product would entice people to buy it.
My guess is that at the time when it was decided to advertise in a theater, they wanted the public to view it as a very very short film and didn't come up with the concept of the commercials of today and different from print advertisement.
The 90's were so awesome!
