  • WOW!! Nothing can touch the original, but damn, this comes close.

  • Excellent job! Great cover of a great musical masterpiece!

  • @MrDreamTheater1 What an ass..elton rocks , get with the times bud.

  • now I understand why there's no picture in the video... you have to feel it with your whole being, a picture would just ruin everything... <3

  • John Petrucci tore the hell out of the guitar line, I'll give him that. But what the fuck was Sherinian thinking with the synths, which are what makes this song beautiful? The opening sounds like he's playing circus music, not one of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time. LaBrie flubs the lyrics (WAS BORN TO grow and die, not IS GONNA grow and die), and the bass is nowhere to be heard compared to the original (especially when this is Myung playing).

  • Incredible song covered by an incredible band

best cover in my opinion ever

  • Not bad, but still not as good as the original...words are a bit too jumbled as is some of the music.

  • Wonderful...Dream theater are something else..Music from Elton John, before he sold out and became an establishment pawn..'Goodbye Yellow-Brick Road was a superb album though

  • God, I ADORE these guys. Amazing for a guy in his thirties fo still be able to feel such love, in identification and not out of a feeling of separation, now.

  • WHERES THE REST OF THE SONG

  • Music cannot be described.

I remember how one day, I was late for class, and walked. I put on this song, before realizing I was too late to make it, and sat down on the bleachers, just listening to Dream Theater's cover. The entire song gave me chills. My vision had become inactive, and my heart was swollen with emotion. The solo at the end quickened my heartbeat, regardless of whatever techniques was used. I love Zep, I love Queen,

But I've never cried harder from the beauty of a song before.

  • @happyhayaodansen Did you get in trouble from your teacher or did they just let it slide?

  • @happyhayaodansen what a wonderful and heartfelt description of a musical experience!! Thank you for making me see that people who feel and think deep still are here and arent afraid to show..rock on

  • one of the best covers i've ever heard...not better than the original, but it's still freakin' amazing and doesn't suck! I miss the days when DT was doing stuff like this.

  • @jedinightwing I miss the days when Elton John wasn't shit and he could write gems like this!

  • fUcking love this.

  • It's indeed Elton John's song....with all the edge and distinctiveness taken out. DT's version is something any two-bit metal band with a little imagination could have done.

  • Clockwork orange.

  • I also loved DT's cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, DT are always good with covers....Perfect Strangers was awesome

  • I saw Elton John a few days ago and Dream Theater are probably my favorite band. It was epic when Elton opened his set with this :)

  • good somg but may i say longest freakimg imtro ever XD

  • @emobabby666 the "intro" is the song Funeral for a Friend which is just an instrumental tune, its no way actually an intro for Love lies bleeding, since Funeral for a Friend ends in A, and Love lies bleeding begins in A, EJ decided to put the two conveniently together.

  • DT > Elton, no matter how you compare it.

  • @XxKhSephirotxX Stupid comment. I love DT, but that is just absurd.

  • of course elton john is unbeatable, but Dream Theater did a REALLY GOOD job with this cover. i love the intensity

  • thats elton john song ?

  • WTH why it's not complete ?

  • bros dont fight .. we love elton john and dream theater .. im broken hearted right now so pls dream theater make a song titled " A FUNERAL FOR A BROKEN HEARTED " :D keep rocking haters and lovers :)

  • Loved it. People that listen to this cover and expect it to be exactly the same as Elton John's are really just immature and need to learn what it's like to be in the music industry. Dream Theater, if you are reading this... I love you guys >_<

  • The beginning reminded me of Clockwork Orange

  • didnt even know that elton john did this originally. oooh lol..

  • I would have loved to see what Rudess could have done with this song.

  • Its pretty good. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THEY KEPT THE SYNTH PARTS.

  • 3 and1/2" was enough...tedious and boring, I lasted that long only because I was hoping it would get better It was like watching a movie in show motion.

  • @Simesta100 learn to spell if you're gunna insult Dream Theater. Would love to see you do better

  • I'm a long time Elton John fan and like this cover. Well done.

  • ugh the video cut out at one of the best parts..

why even post it if u are going to do that?

  • Mike = Nigel

    John = Davey

    Other John = Dee

    Derek + James = Elton

  • great song cover

  • this cover is better than elton john. petrucci fuckin owns.

  • marco borsato :P

  • i wish from 3:55 to 4:14, they had something that would imitate the synthesizer like in the original version, but an awesome cover :)

  • Okay - maybe you're a purist and consider yourself like the first fall of snow. Your crap doesn't stink? So no one can do any song cover like the original, huh? Maybe not....but this was my first time hearing this. I think it's great! It's not a "perfect" cover - who wants that? If so, just listen to the original! It even gets better with "Love lies..". If this doesn't really move you, then I suppose nothing will.

    R.I.P. Mikey!

    I love you brother

  • DT rocks like NO other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DT Rocks like no other......

  • DT Rocks like no other.....

  • i don't know. i'm not feeling this.

  • @darkfishy87 then go fuck off elsewhere

  • I do recall this being a cover and not a duplicate, hence it's obviously not exactly the same as Elton's original version. Chill your vag's and just enjoy it or go listen to something else.

  • awesome cover by an awesome band,up there with uriah heep and lenny wolfes kingdom come

  • This is an awesome cover. I mean I love the original but this is pretty sick. It's sweet when someone can cover a song and make it sound like theirs.

  • Made in '72

    ELTON IS A GENIUS

  • Is really beautiful this cover and this song is really amazing... DT + this song are uniques...

  • Dream Theater is by far one of the most talented rock bands in the history of all time, this cover does little to deter that.

  • who are the 7 idiots who dislike this. this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's cool when a band plays what they as kids grew up listening to...these guys rock no matter what they play!

  • My absolute favorite Elton John song... and I can honestly say, this cover was so fantastic. This is my first time hearing Dream Theater (I know, how can I like metal and not know of them?), and I'm very impressed.

  • Surprised how good this was :)

  • I can't believe they covered this one too.......

    I love them!

  • @HorseMan50 covered it they did,and wow!

  • I'm a huge pre 78 EJ fan and this is my favorite absolute favorte song. so i was curious to hear DT's version. I thought i'd get about 1 min in and move on. (DT can sometimes overcomplicate some songs IMO) They were terrific here. I thought LeBrie was great too. He put his own touch on some parts, but that's okay. Heck even Elton can't sing it like that anymore.

  • Funeral for a friend was just a fraction too slow. Lost a bit of momentum.

Love lies bleeding was alright, singer sang flat a few times though.

  • @GKFC lol DT is great... but yea LeBrie can just be an awful singer at times... but he has his moments... i really like this cover tho

  • @Fiefypants james really has his ups and downs yeah, but both times ive heard him live, he was great ( oslo 2007 and 2009). what would you say his best live performance was? amazing on score..

  • he can, but not this time. he was totally perfect here.

check their metallica album. that's what he could be ashamed of, not this one.

  • Elkton John can just be an Awful lyricist CUS HE NEVER WROTE ANY!! He also can be just a decent singer.

  • @undericesinger apparently you are an awful grammarian, so your opinion does not count.

  • Hahhah I wrote Elkton. Everyone makes mistakes. I am sure you fucked up before when you typed. Just go die dude.

  • @undericesinger let me quote you

"Elkton John can just be an Awful lyricist CUS HE NEVER WROTE ANY!! He also can be just a decent singer." Besides the typo, you capitalized A in awful, you said he can be just an awful lyricist cus he never wrote any, a) its he IS not he can be, which you did twice, and also Elton John wrote all of his lyrics, so I dont know what your saying. And what does "can be just a decent singer" mean, does it mean "he is only decent" or "hes good" WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN!?

  • @StricknSTW Uh, do your homework before spreading lies. Elton wrote NONE of his lyrics, Bernie wrote ALL of his lyrics for him. Now that is the end of that discussion.

  • @1gdfjf Bernie did not write them all. Elton greatly modified the lyrics to Daniel and Holiday Inn, also John wrote the lyrics to Heres to Next Time, Come Back Baby, Ego, Flintstone Baby, with help. He wrote Dont Go Breaking My Heart and Hard Luck Story, almost all by himself. And Lucy in the Sky With diamonds was written by the Beatles, not Bernie, and it was an Elton John Number 1. So I think its you without the homework,

  • @StricknSTW you're an idiot

  • @jpguitarguy Why is that?

  • I hate to say it, but this version is better than any live recorded version I've heard by Elton John & Band. (As I remember, the live version from Elton's 1980 tour was excellent though. ) Excellent job here by Dream theater.

  • I agree —The biggest reason for that —Davey Johnstone was not on the tour...

  • To each his own, Sir; to each his own.

  • @Runrome.

Dream Theater aren't a band from the 90's

  • @Runrome dream theater are not from the 90s, as icedblaze specified. and it's very narrow-minded, don't you think, to automatically freeze out any band that covers something divine? ive heard tons of bands covering lovely songs, by elton john, by dream theater, pink floyd, whatever. and no, this is not a bad cover. yes im aware that this post does not have any musical expressions in it. i dont care about how the crescendo ended too early.

  • @AudunYT yes they are, Dream Theater is SO '90s

thats not a bad thing though.

  • @AudunYT ys they are not from the 90 but they had their breakthrough with Pull me under because labrie or whatever his name was(lol fail and aids) joined

  • @rovdjuret1 yeah no i doubt that labrie had anything to do with it, since he was hired because 1. his image was just what they wanted 2. his voice was just what they wanted 3. he didn't have to be a part of songwriting or anything. he did comment on the songwriting process in interviews, but around the millennium change mike had had enough. so labrie was either gonna help with songwriting or gtfo. before that, he didn't take part in anything, so he didn't have anything to do with pull me under

  • @AudunYT lol songwrite or gtfo!

  • @AudunYT "The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes."-Felix Frankfurter(Supreme Court Justice)

"In politics nothing is accidental. If something happens, be assured it was planned this way."-Franklin D. Roosevelt(32nd degree Mason) "Christianity is our foe. If animal rights is to succeed , we must destroy the Judeo-Christian religious tradition."-Peter Singer(professor at Princeton)

  • @Runrome NOU

  • @Runrome It's a shame there is no vid to go with this...I would love to see this done with Zack and his Death from FF VII using the new Advent Children COMPLETE...wow...that would be somethin" Nice cover of this song...Elton John's a hard one to pull off and sound believable anyway

  • this song makes the hair on my arms stand up

  • You should hear this in full stereo such as on a progressive rock stream through noise-cancelling headphones -- too wicked cool for words.

  • Great cover song there! Why did it end short??

  • This blows...synthesizer never sounds better than the real thing.

  • you blow

  • The truth hurts and this bad is dreadful.

  • one of best cover´s i have ever heard :P Dt is awesome

  • I always had Change of Seasons for a while, didn't really listen to the covers, but I heard this on my mp3 player while stuck in traffic on a bus. Bloody amazing!

  • I LOVE the solo @ 4.15

  • WOW!!What is the original song,guys??!!!

  • Funeral for a friend by elton john

  • First track on Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road by Elton John.

  • I've listened to this mega times. It cuts off at the end. Where'd it go?

  • 10 minute limit, and i removed the end instead of the long clapping intro

  • why?

  • I have loved this song as long as I can remember. I could never imagine anyone ever covering this classic and doing such a wonderful job at it. When I first heard this version played by Dream Theatre, I cried. I loved it so much. I hoped that sir Elton loves it. I know I did.

  • This is definately one of the best covers I've ever heard. They even make it sound like a DT song from the Kevin Moore era.

  • Atmospheric and evocative. Listening to KM's later work in Chroma Key, this cover seems like a tribute to a strong influence.

  • Oddly enough...even though as fuckingly awesome as this is...it somehow doesn't sound as hard as Elton John and his band doing it. Honestly, listen to the version on the live album Here and There. And, it's only piano, bass, drums and guitar!

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dream theather..favorite song for my young agee

  • Обожавам я!!!!!!!

  • Why there gotta be flame wars in every youtube channel? Just enjoy the God dang song.

  • Try living across the river from it. It's even worse.

  • this really reminds me of the a clockwork orange theme whenever it coems on my ipod

  • Elton John is an phenomenal musician.

Dream Theater is a great band. And they're not trying to be better than Elton.

Who is the greatest idiot, the one that says Dream Theater plays better than Elton John (what the hell, this just CANNOT be compared) or the one that thinks a cover must sound exactly the same as the original version? No one will never sound like Elton John, face it. If you like Elton's version better, go listen to it. BTW, Dream Theater's version is particularly interesting.

  • Totally, comparing dream theater to elton john and his band? lol.

  • @MatheusManentee

Yes, they're not trying to be better than Eltyon. They are. Always have been.

  • are you an ass? they are as good as elton and they can cover anyone they want to...they are not claiming to be better than him. they just like the song and wanted to play it. ever think of that? fool.

  • They play it well. Elton and Bernie would be flattered, I'm sure.

  • This is an EP! Not a CD.. and why they play it is because they like this song too, maybe. And they play it better than Elton John. And second off, Dream Theater doesn't just play fast. You haven't heard them, so you can't say whatever you want. You are so wrong.. listen to Lines in The Sand, I Walk Beside You, Scarred.. that's some "more regular" songs with no speed parts.

  • Man I love this song. Never actually ever heard it from Elton John. But I think the cover will do!

  • Well, I gotta give credit to Elton for the original but the excitement and reverence Dream Theater give this song is inspiring.

  • ...what?

  • my what was more directed at your last sentence.

  • ... emo?

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

This is fucking Dream Theater. One of the most talented PROGRESSIVE bands. They're far from emo you dumb cunt.

  • @KnownEnemy2

This band is so emo.... I need some morbid angel to cheer me up

  • @KnownEnemy2 thanks for that those guys dont have a clue

  • What the FUCK?! You have the nerve to actually criticize GOOD music, and ironically, call yourself "goodmusic", and slag off some of the most talented musicians in the rock world today?! This is an amazing song, and it may not be Elton, but it is still a great cover. You are taking up some valuable real estate on this earth - do everyone a favour, and exit this world or just come back when you have a clue! I'd HATE to see what you classified as good music... People like you disgust me...

  • AJAJAJAJ you know DREAM THEATER???? 23 years of carrear, exelent music, 4 of the most respt musicians in te world. the faggot here is you, or well elotn john.

  • thats your argument?? GOD, you go to the school??? if the dream theater's music is to hard to you bto understund it, or to heavy for your fag ears, well is beacuse you are a fag who listen another fag =) you see how simple i wrote it for you =). good luck please study more, and try to be a men and no a fag who thinks that the good music is how much the songd are played in a radio sation or mtv =)

  • Without knocking the Chairman of the club that gave the world Tony Currie, have always thought this song is separated from the rest of Elton John's songs by a wide chasm, with me on this side!

  • beautiful song

  • Comment removed

  • it's ok.. not as great as most comments say but not bad.

  • That intro is tough to cover, it was done so uniquely in the studio (Elton used a guest keyboardist and a rare synth). Just try finding a decent cover on YouTube. Even Elton rolls the tape for the intro live. Plus, Elton's band always speeds this one up way too fast. I think Dream Theater did a very commendable job here.

  • Love lies bleeding in my hands.. that's rock and roll...

  • DREAM THEATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • captain obvious

  • I can't get enough of the guitar in Love Lies Bleeding...just them few things they play makes it so amazing!

Deff. my favorite Elton John song and this remake of it is almost just as good!!

  • Eeeeeeh...-hugs 'Goobye Yellow Brick Road'-

  • of my stupid 10min limit

    =/

  • Its amazing version of this song !!!!!!

The Derek on the Keybords was absolutly fantastic.

Ohhhhhhh God bless the Dream theater version song

  • Please, please, add the complete version ¡¡

  • In my opinion, I'd say that this and the original are equal. This is the greatest cover of a song that a band could ever do hands down.

  • I was watching the original version in the One night only video, and comparing to this one, Dream Theater version is better so far...

  • 4:16-4:40 chills

  • awesome song!!! like it very much!!! ****

  • It's good, but Elton's is miles better!

  • i think john's solo is full of sadness. original is always a masterpiece but DT perfects it other way

  • I also prefer Elton's original, but this is a good (if rather by-the-books) cover, and an interesting choice of a cover for a band like Dream Theater.

  • not the best start with the synth organ but like always Dream Theater makes the best songs. and then makes good songs Great

  • In my opinion this version is better than Elton's (all respect to the original one...it's a masterpiece), but this one...blows my mind!

  • Dont have the same impact at start like Elton John has. The Synth Organ the you very 1st hear sounds horrid. But as the track get going its sounds ok.

  • i think it would sound good if the keyboard player upgraded his patch to something modern. it sorta spoils it.

  • the keyboard player also left the band 9 years ago. 4 years after this was recorded.

  • you know...I am a bit biased because I like Dream Theater a lot. but I really really dig this cover and I LIKE LaBrie on this version!

  • Ok I have to say this is the first time I've heard this song from another band other then Sir Elton John and I have to say it doesn't even compare. The band for Elton John played the beginning faster, I really hate how the singer sings this. Sorry but even the band sucked, the only band member that was good was the dummer, just everything else seems out of tune.

  • you seriously going to compare the technicality of dream theater to Elton John? are you joking?

Elton john's song is the original so props to him, but just because you don't like this version doesn't mean the band sucks

  • You seem out of tune! This is one of the best bands in the world technically.

  • @screwu050391 doooosh

  • pretty damn good cover! i've liked the original since i was 5.

  • the organ at 0:50 always gives me goosebumps

  • simply beautiful....love this song

  • i can't think of anything wrong with the song

    it's powerful!
