The A-10 was built around the minigun in the nose, which weighed a lot. And the engines weren't that far behind the wings. Certainly not at the farthest rear point on the plane like these. The only way I could see this flying was if they angled the engines up slightly to provide lift along with thrust.
Anyone can easily tell this design wouldn't get off the ground. How are you going to lift the 2 heaviest parts of a plane, the engines, when they are way behind the wings at the back of the plane?
Sadly there are some that love to pretend that these mere sketches 'prove' German aero-engineers in WW2 were on the verge of making planes 20 or 30yrs ahead of their time.
But, as anyone who knows the first thing about aircraft knows, a mere design is years away from an operational type.
Not forgetting there are a whole lot of new tactics to learn & infrastructure of support to set up.
Then there's the fact they had no materials left to make them & no fuel or pilots to fly them.
The main problem was that the jet engines were made from mild steel and the planes could not fly for long without a major failure or an engine replacement - their materials science technology wasn't good enough.
This plane (jet) was under Kurt Tank, a briliant designer. However, corruption, terrible political leadership, ineptitude and greed lead to the donfall of the NAZI's. The various designs of planes were futuristic and lead to the F-86, MiG 15 and other, including modern plane design.
To put an retorical question on the books: What would have happened if the NAZI's and Japs won? They were both Xenophobic and probably would have ultamately gone to war against each other??
The German's had SPECTACULAR leading edge technology for the time. However, only two things prevented them from winning the war. Limited resources, and a terrible leader. Had Hitler stayed on a single front, there is a chance the German's may have won! none the less, much respect to all who served in WWII, and serving today!
@TheSoloPilot lol,..so spectacular that they couldn't even construct a working nuclear reactor.
Couldn't even secure their encrypted communications ( Enigma ) from the Allies.
The luftwaffe was never nothing more than a tactical airforce and as early as 1940' Battle of Britain cockblocked.
The German navy again by 1940' Norway campaign lost half it's surface fleet. The U-boats lost the Battle of the Atlantic 1944' to those inferior Allies with inferior sonar, radar etc.
Where in the name of god did they Germans( Nazis) get these advanced ideas from???? Thankfully if in numbers these units went up to attack B17's and Mustang fighter escorts the air war over Europe may have been a lot different. The outcome well who can say. That did not not happen and the forces of freedom prevailed.
@doomdayjudge May I say yes you may have a point, from 1945 till 2011 there is a question mark at times on the word " Freedom", 911 another question mark. I hear you comment. Good point old friend.
Ram jets? How were they supposed to get up enough speed for the ram jets to work?

That thing would be uncontrollable in an engine-out situation. And exceedingly tail-heavy.

Which sources do you have for a ramjet version of the TA 183 "Huckebein"?

The barrel shaped plane - if it wasn't for the two big motors in the back - looks a lot like the Saab J29 Tunnan ! ...
