@xwingpilot112358 Yeap. But all Star Wars actors sign non-disclosure agreements, so he was probably still contractually obligated to not disclose the fact they shot that scene.
God, he must be sick of talking about Star Wars; over 40+ years ago. Doesn't look too bad considering he's nearing 60 in this clip (Mark and I are the same age), and he still has that beautiful hair. Wish he would let it grow out a little bit more though; strange cut for a 60 year old man.
I would like to meet this dude. Great guy. I'd really like to ask him if he'd have liked to have gone on to make the originally planned 7, 8 & 9 as talked about by Gary Kurtz, the episodes which followed on straight after Ep. 6. Supposedly these films would have had him as the only character to survive Ep. 6 as a lone Jedi searching for his sister who was on the other side of the galaxy.
well i cant blame hamill for bein a bit pissed over fords success but at the same time, star wars still made hamill and he shouldnt be jealous of what fords done, he should be congratulating him, and i reckon deep down his whole life hes been thinkin "i fucking cant stand ford" and thinkin "that should have been me" quite sad really but there you go, he does a great joker though
@Wikigoogtube not really more people know who harrison ford is than they do mark through indiana jones films and other films ford has done like blade runner and others, i know hamill for playing luke in star wars and voicing the joker in the batman game and animated series and imo hamill cant get alot of work on screen these days only voice work i mean he aint doin films like ford is, and if he is, well they aint as big, not hatin on the guy though its just fact n i like him as the joker
@Brady2k10 Um, you're response was really jumbled. So I'll just say it's my opinion, since I can't speak for anyone else, that the quality of Mark Hamill's voice acting career alone is better that the quality of Ford's entire career. I know what you mean about recognition and body of work, but who knows what people remember in another 30 years, eh? Mickey Rooney was in dozens of films, well paid, a box office draw, but you're lucky if anyone knows who he is now. On the flip side: Orson Welles.
@Wikigoogtube whats jumbled? in your opinion hamills voice acting is better than fords film career, im willing to bet more people would disagree with u than agree to that. They liked han better in star wars and the indiana jones series has gained alot of fans, old and young n ther doin a 5th one, whats hamill doing? the joker in batman arkham city a video game, now u cant really compare the two, clearly more people know ford than they do hamill, blade runner has alot of fans too
@Wikigoogtube hamill does a good joker but other than that, i havent seen much from him, cartoons, video games, or big blockbuster films that are watched worldwide? hm not really hard to figure out whos more popular and liked. Now i like hamill but hes below ford, in terms of money, fame and likeability, n no they wont rmr hamil over ford in 30 years time like i said the indiana jones films r too big and ppl will rmr them more than they'll rmr a voice actor who did the joker in batman
You know, Mark Hamill's career has really been a good one. He always seems courteous in interviews and has probably led a fulfilling life thus far. From Luke Skywalker to Christopher Blair and the Joker (and Cocknocker), his choice of roles is really impressive despite not getting the same hype as Harrison Ford. It doesn't look like fame has gone to his head (or maybe he got over it). Either way, Mark Hamill is a great example of gracefully handling celebrity and coming off thankful to his fans.
I wonder how they got Hamill? Justin Lee Collins wanted an interview for "Bring Back Star Wars", and Hamill asked for $50,000!! Talk about being up your own arse!
@mistofoles - People who've been "Beatled" (if you're under 50, look up Beatlemania) usually have no interest in rehashing stuff they've been asked about constantly for years. If someone asked you to do something you really didn't want to, and you also didn't want to be rude and simply say "NO, GO AWAY", how would you say it?
@mistofoles I know I'll look like a Hamill apologist but depending on the budget of the event that might not be asking too much. He IS the biggest name in Star Wars to most fans; sure he hasn't had the career of Ford and isn't the braintrust like Lucas (which is debatable), but ask any fan who they'd like to see/talk to and most will say "Luke!" Plus, the person being asked to attend has to set a fair price for their time/service and if the bar is too low then it affects them in the long run.
I wish the Cohen Brothers or somebody would give him a nice sweet showcase part to finally do justice to his amazing talent. Like what Tarantino did for Travolta ya know.
@redbaron932 I thought he looked great actually. Pick any person you can think of who is over 50 and compare them with their mid 20s. Harrison Ford is probably not doing any better.
@redbaron932 u hav to consider the fact that hamil had face surgery, look at any celebirty whos had surgery, as they got older they started to not look not that normal
What will you do? Throw tea at me? I might actually be apprehensive if you were from any other country. But Godamn, England is so homoerotic I have nothing to worry about. You'd probably invite me over for crumpets or tea.
Don't forget Mark Hamill's car accident just before Star Wars was released. At his age, the plastic surgery is really beginning to show through. Can't expect a smashed in nose to last forever... even his voice is getting real nasal...
The entire sequence was filmed and post-produced... end of story. There has always been evidence of this in the behind-the-scenes material and Mark even admitted to it at the official unveiling of the clip at Celebration V.
It seems strange that Mark all of a sudden remembered filming the entire scene only moments before George Lucas officially unveiled it to the public.
@captbyron No he's just saying that it was not him in the scene, if you watch the scene he's talking about you'll see they don't show Hamils face just a dark hood, so it could be anyone in there.
Ive seen a picture from the original scene. Luke is in the cave but not with his face shadowed but with red light possibly from a fire on him. As for the scene at Celebration, I think they cant find the original or dont want to present it and so they made a fake deleted scene. Lukes chin looks like a bad CGI face. The saber sound is like Anakins when hes about to kill the younglings. And every word Vader speaks hes said somewhere in the 1st 3. So yes there was a scene but this may be a fake!
Mark said on the forcecast at celebration that he did not have any memory of filming that until he saw it on the golfcart ride to the main event, when he asked them about the scene, he didn't remember, but as soon as he saw footage FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE FILMING IT over 25 years ago, he remembered.
@angelaisojd We can't expect all actors to remember every single scene that they filmed, but never saw on actual film. If he had been in the editing room and watched the rough cut, then was told that scene would be removed, it might be a different story. Like I said, it was just a job, and he should be forgiven for not remembering little things he did at his job 2 1/2 decades ago.
Poor mark hamill, he does all this awesome voice work and people still bug him with Star Wars questions!? Man... Love him though. The only true Joker.
That "deleted scene" did kind of look suspicious to me. I mean, sure, it's just a short scene, but the quality seemed kind of newer to me, and the fact that they hid his face the whole time?
When else did they hide his face in the remainder of the film?
hey.. i'm sorry, star wars fans but i don't nerd out because he's luke. i mean that's cool and all... but i nerd out when i see him because hes the mothafuckin joker!!!! XD
what?? he said 'I NEVER SHOT A SCENE LIKE THAT' but if u see the interview with george lucas and jon stewart at celebration V, mark hamil appears! and they show that scene.. in mark said that '' this was my original entrance into the film return of the jedi''
@LordEizen All that means is that was where his character was originally going to appear for the first time in Return of the Jedi, regardless of weather or not it was him in the scene.
@SonofJones he would have said, this was luke skywalker or my characters first appearance .. or something like that... well it doenst matter, oh i forgot.. XD i read on starwars.com about it and it says this was post production so.. yea
@N1njaSk1llz420 han solo was not a total hero like Luke WAS cause in lots moments Solo appears in double suspection of goodness , making a badboy kind of ...
so the Only good HERO IN THE 6 CHAPTERS ...was LUKE SKYWALKER!
It's likely that the clip shown at C5 is legitimate. If you look at the end of ROTJ when Luke hugs Han you can see that the profiles match. Plus, knowing that Lucas was probably going to release some future set with all of the OT deleted scenes, he probably told Hamill to keep mum about filming that scene or others so that Lucas could announce it later.
@zion223 There's this thing that happens when large amounts of time pass and people are alive... its called aging, hence present mark hammil not looking quite identical, but still completely recognizable to star wars era mark hammil
@mcfatty007 Agreed mcfatty007, Some individuals just don't seem to get that people can't look young forever. Hamill looks ok in this vid though. Other than his skin being more damaged from 33 more years of sun/wind exposure and a different , shorter hair style, and having a different nose shape than he had in Star Wars (as he had a car accident around 1977 and had plastic surgery to repair it).....and being maybe 35 pounds heavier than when he was in Star Wars...he looks basically, the same.
there. If Luke says it didn't happen, it didn't happen. Now shut your imperial mouths and accept this is add-on for the Blu-Ray release, not original footage.
This is pretty funny, considering this lightsaber scene was actually played at Star Wars Celebration V as something that will be in the Star Wars Blu-Ray release. Mark even introduced it.
Interesting. He sounds nice - Do you think he ever has a day that doesn't include someone asking him something or referring to something about Star Wars?
@mielr well now we know he was lying, the scene will be released after all. he can keep a secret pretty well, after all-he kept a lid on who darth vader was til release.
@truepridejb It was over 25 years ago, and he probably shot tons of footage that never even went to print. I can't remember every moment I spent at my job during the past year, let alone what I did 20 years ago.
@antonio1972lopez It's one thing to see a scene and know you didn't do that because it's right in front of you on the screen, but it's another to have possibly shot footage of a scene a couple of decades earlier that you never even saw rushes for.I saw the clip somewhere on youtube, if that's the actual full footage they will be using, and all it shows is him doing adjustments while sitting in a cave, not building it from scratch. If he had to build it on camera, that might be significant to him
@antonio1972lopez yeah because I'm sure he was totally worried about having to remember a silly detail like that just to appease anal people on youtube 30 years later. I mean who i worried about remember their lines, banging hot chicks and getting paid big bucks when you can just worry about a silly plastic prop?

@zion223= He got older. When in your fifties you will be, look as good, you will not.

there. If Luke says it didn't happen, it didn't happen. Now shut your imperial mouths and accept this is add-on for the Blu-Ray release, not original footage.

@bleumcnamara
But at Celebration V yesterday he said he did film it. He probably just forgot.

This is pretty funny, considering this lightsaber scene was actually played at Star Wars Celebration V as something that will be in the Star Wars Blu-Ray release. Mark even introduced it.

@GhastlyBeastly So why would he reveal it to some nub here?

Interesting. He sounds nice - Do you think he ever has a day that doesn't include someone asking him something or referring to something about Star Wars?

@GlennGeo666 Just imagine all the questions he must get like this one from true star wars fans, he must get a little sick of it after a while :P

I've seen photos of actual storyboards of that sequence, but apparently that is as far as it got and no more than that. Too bad, a real shame.

A truly great actor

THANK YOU! I've always wondered why a fan never asked him this question before, since it's one of the most debated among fans. *****
mielr 2 years ago 26
@mielr well now we know he was lying, the scene will be released after all. he can keep a secret pretty well, after all-he kept a lid on who darth vader was til release.
truepridejb 1 year ago
@truepridejb I don't think he was lying- he just didn't remember shooting the scene. He said so right before he introduced the clip.
mielr 1 year ago
@truepridejb It was over 25 years ago, and he probably shot tons of footage that never even went to print. I can't remember every moment I spent at my job during the past year, let alone what I did 20 years ago.
phillydisco 1 year ago
@phillydisco So he remembered the mundane hand scene and not a more meaningful constructing of a lightsaber scene?
antonio1972lopez 1 year ago
@antonio1972lopez It's one thing to see a scene and know you didn't do that because it's right in front of you on the screen, but it's another to have possibly shot footage of a scene a couple of decades earlier that you never even saw rushes for.I saw the clip somewhere on youtube, if that's the actual full footage they will be using, and all it shows is him doing adjustments while sitting in a cave, not building it from scratch. If he had to build it on camera, that might be significant to him
phillydisco 1 year ago
@antonio1972lopez yeah because I'm sure he was totally worried about having to remember a silly detail like that just to appease anal people on youtube 30 years later. I mean who i worried about remember their lines, banging hot chicks and getting paid big bucks when you can just worry about a silly plastic prop?
