The political class, and Hollywood crowd have bodyguards, live in well patroled upperclass neighborhoods and / or have elaborate security systems. "Assault weapon" is not the same as "assault rifle." An assault rifle is a full auto and was already illegal come 1986 under the FOPA. An "Assault Weapon" just looks scary but isn't functionally different than an M1 Garand -- which, curiously, was not banned under the old AWB.
