nice music! I should be getting my linux CD so I can install it. Windows is quite a pain to install. But right now I have Dual boot with Windows Vista, and XP. But i look forward to dual booting Windows vista, and linux
you burn your "flavor" of linux to a disc. then put it in your cd drive...when you restart your computer open your BIOS and make sure it is set to load the CD/DVD drive BEFORE your hard drive and the installation process will start up...or in this case the live version of the OS will open and run directly from the disc...then you just install with the instruction on here :)
when you did that manual partitioning, did it let you choose the hard drive you wanted to install to? I plan to have a hard drive just for ubuntu and another for XP.
What's the point of an OS with no sound? The sound problem in ubuntu is widely known and the fixing requires terminal commands and editing configs bla bla.Unlike windows or mac, to install something on linux you need to open that console and write some complicated syntax
I had onboard sound card(AC 97) and there wasn't any need for installing board drivers(which include sound drivers). Last week I bought Audigy and it worked from the start. I also know a friend that uses Ubuntu and is an owner of a Sound Blaster Live and it works ok. Your experience with linux must be specific.
But based on what you are saying you haven't even use it. To install applications you only need three clicks in a package manager.
yes, i agree, windows is a pain expesially if youve had it for all your life, you practilly memorize eveery error message. i switched to linux like a year ago, and im 12. so i find that linux is a better os afterall, allthough ive never worked with a Mac, so i shouldnt really be talking. But, i think, Mandriva is my only Linux OS intalled on my hard drive. but i have a question...whats the difference from SLAX and Mandriva, on the latest live CD's they seem so similar.

What should the partition sizes be?
If I have two separate hard drives do I need to make partitions?
Joelius90 3 years ago
That would depend on your hard drive size and how much you would like to devote to Linux :)

Huh? Windows is easy to install (and so is ubuntu) although ubuntu is a lot more entertaining as you can browse the web etc

This is not true. All popular Linux distros use package managers, which can install any software you want automatically.
You CAN install stuff using the command line, but you don't HAVE to.
