I wondered what the man was doing at first. What a fabuous demonstration of the work. Great, and a lovely voice to make it even better. With love and Light Clairvoyant , Gayle Force from Cornwall.
Well said, I to find his work to be very interesting in style. Technically his work seems exceptional (though he used what then was considered obsolete materials i.e.e albumen prints), but it is the dean pan and straight documentary style of his approach that I hope I can learn from in my own photography.
Fantastic program, still trying to find the video type that I recorded it onto when it first showed! hehe
Technically, they just turned that room into a camera. The hole in the curtain was the aperture, the room was the body. The only thing that makes a camera different is the lens that flips the image and the photographic film at the back (which could of been placed on the wall they projected onto if they wanted!)
Great documentary. Does anyone know links to the remaining episodes?

During this series, I 'discovered' the astounding work of Eugene Atget. Time-travel indeed.

this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know the music that is used on the trailer to the 'Genius of Photography'?
On the subject of the camera obscura, there is one at the Greenwich Observatory, worth a look.

Sigur Ros; provided the trail music (and one of the best camera obscuras is in Edinburgh, by the Castle Esplanade.

When I was a child, I used to lay on my bed and watch the street outside projected onto the ceiling by a small gap in the curtains. Wonderful!

We had a Camera Obscura at work, National Media museum, and it was very popular! It amazed people when they realised there was no trickery involved!!
