lol that in not true. there is traffic on the amtrak. in august 06 me my brother and father went on the california zepyhr and a freight broke down in front of us.
Great commercial, and it hits on a big nerve for a lot of travelers. Airlines can be an OK experience, but between security, tight budgets, and over worked employee's, it tends to be an exercise in frustration for everyone.
Studies have shown over and over that speed isn't the biggest factor for travelers, comfort and convenience are.
With the TSA pushing what many have nicknamed "The Porno Scanner," Amtrak really needs to push the ads again. "Amtrak: Travel with dignity; Enjoy the journey."
''remove your belt your watch your shoes''..lolz....i have been in every single situation there talking about...especially the ''we are 14th in line for take off''....
I live near DC (in Montgomery County, MD) and take the Northeast Regional (what WAS wrong with just the "Regional," anyway?) a lot to Providence, RI. I've actually only rode a Regional once anyways to New York. We took the Vermonter back and then they changed the name. I also took the Coast Starlight in First Class from LA to San Francisco once, and also have ridden the Acela three times (once in first, two in business). I hope to save enough AGR points to take the Auto Train next summer.
This is a good commercial. The only thing missing is the All aboard Amtrak music piece at the end. Or is that too cheesy? Anyways, I think Amtrak should start making more commercials like this. Can really help out and boost their ridership. You never know unless you give it a try.
i love riding the train.. it becomes a moving 'town' everyone knows everyone else by the end of the journey. i rode the train from california to new york and back again.. i would love to do it again someday!
But remember---the passenger train was in pretty serious danger when Ronald Reagan was President. And there were no P40/42's, Viewliners, nor Acelas back then---but plenty of aging Heritage cars and overworked F40's, as well as hard-working men and women determined to prove that their company was not the "Amtrash" that some folks called them.
Not to mention a man determined not to let down those who believed in the train: W. Graham Claytor, Jr.
@kmillard CSX controls that side of the line, so CSX and Amtrak have to work together to agree on the schedules. but i think even when the route was New York Central it was still in the middle of the night being its 700 miles from ny
I'm going to preface my reply by saying I LOVE passenger rail. I'm not one of those "roads...railroads suck..." people. That said I don't like this commercial because it pretty much perpetuates this whole myth that everyone who likes passenger rail is some nostalgic old coot with an HO scale layout he'd LOVE to show you. Model trains=Amtrak. Yay for the young people who like taking the train who have to deal with that stigma.
...ok, this commercial just gets more hillarious every time I see it. You really have to give credit to Amtrak and props to whoever directed this.
"Looks like it's bumper to bumper on the interstate."
"An extra bag costs WHAT?!"
"I wonder how much gas is today??"
They came up with a hillarious and creative way to show how much it sucks to drive or fly on the airlines, and how the train is a MUCH more relaxing and fun way to travel.
THESE are exactly the kind of commercials Amtrak should be running. Showing how much more fun and relaxing it is to travel by train. In California, you get stuck in traffic on the freeway and it takes 3 hours to go 40 miles...then you see a train fly by at 75 MPH...gee, I wonder where I would rather be?? Stuck in an overheated car on the freeway...or kicking back in a train, relaxing and listening to my mp3 player and just enjoying the ride.
My train in Austin was 6 1/2 hours early, it had to wait there. It was supposed to leave at 9:31 am but I got to get in my sleeper at 6:00. I even had breakfast. The crew and I watched a movie. The rest of the people from San Marcos were kinda mad. Idk how this could happen
This is a great commercial l hope people will try the train like l did after l saw the commercial l went and bought three tix for me and my family and it was cool we saw thing's we would not have seen on the plane. Those kids was great l always want to go to cleveland maybe one day l will go on AMTRAK. where did they find them kids they help me pick train or plane and l took the train l hope to see them kids on another amtark commercial. GO AMTRAK!!!!!!
Finally, a commercial that reveals the true reason as to why our nation has been in a transportaion deadlock for the past three decades. Rail has been, and always will be, the best way to travel.
"Shoulda skipped that second soda..." (Slow shaking of the head) this commercial cracks me up because it is such a reality of how american adults act and how they are probably seen in the eyes of children. I spent about a half hour looking for this online the other week but couldn't find it because i forgot the company it was for. glad i saw it on tv so i could find it online!
I know that little black boy his name is Ryan Collins he's in 3rd grade at my school. He even said he was in it but he was trying to keep it a secret.
Love the shot of San Luis Obispo, CA at the end! The area where it was shot is just north of Cal Poly University SLO. This time of the year it's very green, but most of the year the hills are brown. Great script too, love all the funny lines the boys have.
How pathetic! Only some lost-in-nostalgia railfan/fomer or pre-adolescent children find this kind of thing worthwhile. It works D.C to Boston and the like, but long distance, NYC to Cleveland or Chicago for instance (only a couple examples), it is a total waste of our time and our tax dollars. This is, quite simply, just another special interest entitlement program that should be forced to make it on its won erits and not depend on our tax dollars.
It has been proven year after year that Amtrak can't support itself, and it never will. Look at all the successful (that's right, successful) passenger rail networks across the globe and you'll find that all of them are heavily funded by the government as well. And you should remember that highways don't support themselves either, they virtually rely on nothing but tax dollars and federal grants, etc. Take it any way you want (I am a 'railfan/foamer'), but this is simply the truth!
Love this new commercial - and I'm glad it was filmed using the Coast Starlight! Now, if only they'd bring back the "All Aboard Amtrak" theme song :)

The last time I took Amtrak I was told by the ticket agent "You know this train is always late, right?"
I figured, what, 30 minutes? 40 minutes? No big deal...
No...
FOUR HOURS LATE. I asked a crew member how long the train has been running late, the ticket agent made it sound like a joke.
Turns out that particular run has been 3 to 4 hours late every week for THIRTY YEARS.
