oh my, i had no idea! my life is so sheltered and i am so egocentric, such as the rest of the well-off, wealthy countries. The US should take care of this...but our economy is going down, possibly into a depression and these countries are MUCH worse. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya. I can certainly emphasize what these people. I used to eat much of the same food they showed on the clip. These price increases are incredible and very difficult on the very poor. Much of these prices increases seem to be related to global economic forces, which is beyond the control of these people who are among the poor of the poor. I think what's hard for Americans to fathom is that this how more than 80% of the world lives.

This is so sad know that I grew up in kenya but never experienced this hard life.I never had 2 go without food,clothing or shelter went 2 good schools & all.I hope things change for my country kenya we have gone thru so much.May we find a solution 2 fight poverty forever it is sad that some pple in Kenya can afford to buy food & live wonderful lives & some have nothing to eat & yet we live in the same country.

The amount we have spent on the so called "war on terror", we could've fed the entire world for over two years straight. And that's an old stat. I imagine its even far greater an amount now. I thought this crisis was because rich people loaned poor people money then assured other rich people the poor people would be able to pay it back so those rich guys bought porfolios of all these poor peoples loans but they had insurance policys taken out on them just 3 cents on the dollar then those portfolios failed and they want the poor to pay back the other 97 cents. So ultimatly it is the wealthys fault. Not to mention all the insider trading and the shit we never hear about.

Don't donate any more money to Africa until they start:
1) Controlling the population (laws, condoms, etc.)
2) Mandate disease control (forced testing, quarantines, etc.)
3) End government corruption
If you donate money before all 3 of those things happen you are PART OF THE PROBLEM.
If your gonna send anything there, send technology that will help them grow food, whether it be a G.M.O. or a real piece of hardware that makes harvesting faster

Hence there are two options, have other countries continuously donate to them or have them sort out the problem themselves. Granted the second option may seem cruel but its the only way to make the country self sufficient, their relying on hand outs has only caused over population in addition to poor health. It is best to let them solve their own problems and remove the crutch given to them.

I had a friend like you. Christian, went to africa on a mission to help an impoverished bunch of blueblacks. Made latrines, dug a well, all while they sat around and watched. Then after he was done, they contaminated the well by washing animals and each other in the drinking water and they all got sick and blamed whitey. He came away a more knowledgeable man. If you researched poverty statistics you would see that poverty is actually INCREASING. African families are having 10+ children per family and that's a FAR greater level than what is sustainable. The real issue here isn't food, it's population. The population is too high to be supported by the limited farmland.

everyone should make an effort to break bread with others reagardless of country and origin. i will always feel sorrow and empathy for those that hunger. nobody deserves to feel this empty hunger but action in your home town or abroad is always the path to change, not just money.

As bad as that might sound i agree. I'm NOT racist, my 2 of my best friends are black and my best friend is Mexican. Right now we need to worry about ourselves. We have a war in Iraq going nowhere, oil prices have gone up over 400$ in 6 years. The stock market almost crashed. The US govt has/is going for give out over $1 Trillion in aid to businesses that are in trouble. That is why this years presidential election is one of the most important ever, because it might be the last.
