  • Very Epicurean. Are people than can not bring you pleasure less valuable?

  • shemjaza,

You mentioned the word "good" several times in a context that implies that you believe

    1. Good exists

    2. Good is measurable (at least by you - you didn't mention another being responsible for defining good)

    3. It's good to do good for another

On what basis do you suppose that it is good to do good for another if good can only be defined subjectively?

Also, if you say that you have merit, does that make it so? Of what value is merit if it is measured differently by each person?

  • All atheists have that rubber ruler problem. Morallity demands definite and absolute grounding. If it changes even once, it has left morallity. How do you know that what is moral may be immoral at a different time, or person, or society, or place?

  • man enigma217 who's that fat "superman" kid in your profile

  • So I guess you are saying that your life is worthless and you should have never been born. Well then the world wouldnt be polluted with your stupid thoughts.

  • Wow you are definetly a lost soul who is wounded and needs help. I will keep you in my prayers and pray that you will recieve healing in your life.

  • Oh for fuck sakes!!!

He's not a lost soul!! He's thinking rationally for himself and I think he has a very valid point!!

Being can be a great thing sometimes! Other times it's not so great, but alot of the time it is!!

We don't need to have been made by sone stupid God to be special and worthy. We are special because we are human and all human life is a beautiful and wonderful thing!!

  • Dopamine. Look it up. I's the stuff in your brain that makes you happy. There's an objective link between levels of dopamine and weeee happiness.

Same goes for love. Higher levels of Oxytocin and Vasopressin. So we can objectively say that our choice of things we value can be objectivised.

  • I agree that the link between these kinds of neurochemicals and happiness appear to be scientific facts... but that doesn't on its own create an objective value for life, it mealy adds evidence for the ability to be happy.

  • What if a man is in a state where he can't experience anything good and can't give any good experience to others? Also, your subjective definition of what is 'good' is not very convincing.

  • Being unable to experience or cause good sensations in others seems like a nightmarish state to be in, if I were stuck that way I'd rather die. Well it's a little hard to be convincing about a purely subjective value judgment. How can I prove I like eating ice cream, maybe I'm just really good at pretending...

  • Interesting. Where in the bible does that come from?

  • I'm not one for Objectivism. It's just not needed to prove things.

  • Oh, and the fact that it teaches selfishness and all those other lovely traits
