  • Sweet

  • amazing!

  • what

  • i hv uploaded 20 different drum fills in a video for beginners

  • Not 7 strokes..just a rookie here..but it depends on what you are using the 6 stroke roll for. If you are using it for a 6/8 fill then you do it twice. So, it isn't seven strokes..he is just saying you start it back over the way you began. 12 strokes in all for a 6/8 fill.

  • less talkin more playin

  • awesome! : ) thanks man, real good video! can't wait to try it out!! : )

  • What are you playing exactly at 2.48- 2.50 ?

  • I've never heard of a 6 stroke roll that has 7 strokes in it. WTF?

  • THIS DRUM KIT SOUNDS LIKE A BIG PIECE OF SHIT, DIDNT LIKE THAT TONE

  • @braino2000 The exact same thing with me, I've just realised how important rudiments are to me as a drummer, And i believe that rudiments create great possibilities when coming up with new fills. I'm self taught myself, And really regret not learning the basics first, As i sure know i'd probably be 10x as good as a guess i am now.

  • now im new to drumming but if im not mistaking a six stroke roll is simply a five-stroke roll with an extra tap (not a bounce) at the end, for a total of two ending taps so RRLL R L.

  • @iSMITH4life it goes RllrrL (capital letters are accents)

  • @Argaroth89 i have a book on drumming and in the book it say six-stroke roll is played RRLL R L

  • @iSMITH4life that depends on WHERE YOU WANT TO PUT THE ACCENTS.... it can be RL RRLL or RR LR LL or RRLL RL ;)

  • @Argaroth89 god im so confused lol

  • anybody know how to count this?

  • @biggdaps its a sixtuplet fill... 6 hits in 1 beat... same as triplets but twice the speed ;)

  • thx man this helped alot not just the drum fill but the 3 and 6(mostly the drum fill ive been looking for a sound like that, if you have any more cool fills please share!)

  • The very last fill is so awesome

  • This video is so helpful!

Thanks a lot to the person who demostrated in the video and the person who posted the video!

    God bless.

  • What drumstik are u using?

  • These are all lies, do not believe this man!!! There is no such thing as a 6 stroke fill, u will not be able to do this. In fact there is no such thing as a 6 stroke roll, stop following the "man", there are no such things as drums, they do not exist, stand your ground and you will survive

  • just view the video with the subtitles how stupid translator..

  • sick vid!, simple yet sooo insightful!

I had been since quite young but this really expands my horizon XD

  • dude, you actually explain this stuff so amateurs can learn it, kudos.

  • :D Now I can show off at school LOL ^-^

  • looking forward to more videos, keep up the good work mang

  • my teacher taught me this, and its one rudiment that i find really useful... heaps of fun to play and can use it any sorts of fills and dynamics. its good practice for your hands too.

  • New skins needed. Kit sounds terrible.

  • WTF I HAVE 2 LEARN THIS!

  • i must learn this!

  • nice video, easy and informative.

    keep em coming :)

  • hey dude

    nice video, easy and informative.

    keep em coming

  • I dig it... Nicely done

  • Rudiments are fun to me. All you need is a practice pad and a metronome. There's hardly any noise, so you won't annoy neighbours.

When you get good at them, it's not that hard to apply them on the kit. People should expand their horizons: learn rudiments, kit beats, jazz swings, timpani and mallet percussion. All of these things complement each other, and all of them are fun to do.

    Don't be a one-trick pony!

  • thank you. ive alway's wanted to know how drummers did this. now im on my way to being able to do it myself.

  • nice video

  • great video and nice drumming

  • Good video, though personally i would recommend spending more time on paradiddles and the 2-stroke snare when your a beginner. (for you who don't know, the paradiddle is bassicly "R-L-R-R-L-R-L-L" in 6/8. and the 2-stroke snare is "R-R-L-L-R-R-L-L" and it is in 4/4..

  • @0Nollan0 Thanks for that tip. The 6/8 is just fascinating. Very confusing but once I master it, it would be awesome. Even the 4/4 is confusing already. I'm used to do doing two hands.

  • I like this video! It's good!

  • This is great, cheers :)

  • HEY OH!

  • very nice!

  • this is easy ?!?!?!?

  • (<<<beginner) bulllfuckingshit i cant do it that fast,, put intermidiate in the name or something lol

  • "funny kick kicks ass hot chicks best rap gangsta" loooll xD cool tags^^

    really good video!

  • ??? Read his tags lol

  • LMAO!!! Haha that's so random, I think he's just trying to get a ton of views with those tags.

  • another thing u can do that sounds basically the same is a paradiddle diddle

    R L R R L L

  • Thankyou! Im Gnna Learn A lot From Your Vids =] Greatly Appreciated

  • very cool!

  • nicely demonstrated! i need to learn this

  • One of the easiest things to play? Bullshit!

  • First of all I admit I am a "VERY" elementary drummer. I have been trying to learn the first fill you showed for a very long time. I think it's one of the smoothest fills to start a song with. Then you were cool enough to throw in the fill with the cymbals which will be great for a quick solo. I can't thank you enough for this video. I am soooo excited. I saved this video to my favorites. Thanks so much!!

  • nice...

  • very nice fill

  • wow

  • very cool

  • Kewl Fill

  • nice job, bro.....i do this fill often, though i think i may need to tune my drums differently for it to have effect.....any thoughts?

  • gracias compadrito!!! exelente ayuda!!!

  • Nice fill ! I love iht ! hhe

  • that floor toms sound awfull.....nedd some fine tuning....

  • Tell you what, I am shit at tuning!!

  • What do you do with the kick drum while you use this stroke in fills around the kit?

    does it follow?

  • First, there is no rules. Be yourself, But,, A good place to start is play the kick drum on all the numbers 1, 2 3 4, accent them with the kick, then when your more comfortable mix it up.. hope that helps

  • nice fill

  • how long are you drumming??

  • I have a question! Is he rolling the sticks when he gets faster or not? When drummers are playing fast like that, are they rolling the stick or just striking? Thanks!

  • striking, but fast, and lots of use of rebound, and often finger's are used instead of the wrist, but that's not necessairy.

  • striking, however - they do so only by controlling the rebound rather than reinitiating the entire stroke ;).

  • Hey Lane, to answer your question as you start out playing drums you may be rolling the sticks or "Brapping" but as you progress you will definitely start playing each individual stroke =)

    Hope that helped :)

  • what kind of drum are those?

  • i suggest to all begining drummers, learn the basics first. holding the sticks right, all the basic rudiments( double stroke roll, etc.) then your wrist will move better and youll get a better feel. trust me you will be much better off learning rudiments before you try all these crazy fills.

  • Good job!!!

  • Really informative, good stuff :)

  • I love hearing other drummers methods, intuitions and applications, no matter how good you are, or think you are they are always insightful.

  • @Drumboy5165 excellent point! i am glad there are good people like you out there who appreciate others and are not so full of themselves!

  • Tip for ANY beginning drummer: PRACTICE THE BASICS FIRST!I've played 2 years and granted I'm decent for having no lessons but I started off playing BEATS and FILLS!...HORRIBLE idea! Always get your essential coordination/hand rudiments down first when your a beginner...The paradiddle, double paradiddle double stroke, six stroke role, swiss triplets, etc...You won't regret in spite of it's boringness! I regret not starting with these things cause im 2 years deep and have to practice hand stuff...

  • same here man. Except ive been playing for 5 years and it is a huge regret but it's gotta be done.

  • Shit! That's even worse, no offense haha but yeah it would be hard to undo 5 years of not starting off right. Good luck :)

  • Same with me... I've been playing on and off for 7 years >.> Granted I knew all the basic rudiments.. I just haven't spent any time practicing them really.. Just started actually practicing my double strokes and six stroke rolls. Yeah, definitely build up your rudiments before you do anything else.

  • @braino2000 dont ever stop practicing your rudiments

you can always get better and those fundamentals is what will make you a really good drummer :) just saying that so people dont think that after they have them down they never have to practice them again

  • @braino2000 try 12+ years in your situation lol

    i feel your pain

  • @braino2000 I know exactly what you mean. I started playing because the band I was in (on another instrument) needed a drummer. So I was thrown in at the deep end and never learned my rudiments. That was 12 years ago... I really regret not learning them now.

  • @braino2000 Good advice, I've been there and hit a brick wall and like you say had to learn all of the tricky bits to build a drum vocabulary! Bit demoralising because you think you are doing well up until you realise you have nothing much to say around the kit.

  • @braino2000 '

I am in the same situation. I'm a college student who just started off playing along to songs and listening to different beats and fills. My time is horrible, coordination is sub-par and don't know any rudiments or how the apply to the kit. I saw a video of a kid the other day who had been playing for 7 months (I've been playing for over a year) and he was light years ahead of me. I was so pissed. But I've started over and am practicing the basics.

  • @braino2000 yeah i did the exact same thing, just learned to play songs and after a few years i just start working on the double stroke roll

  • @braino2000 yeah i did the exact same thing, just learned to play songs and after a few years i just start working on the double stroke roll

But on the other hand, any beat that isn't out of time or anything i can do mostly on the first or second try

  • @braino2000 I get what your saying but I sort of disagree. I've been playing for four years. Never had a lesson and I also just started with beats and fills. For me it was just about fun not having proper technique. But now it is much easier to learn things like this video.

  • @braino2000 man i am the exact same story on that

  • @braino2000

I didn't realize my error until after 5 years in the hole....wished I had began the rudiments day one...

  • @braino2000 This comment was a year ago so you must of have been playing 3 years now, which is the same as me. I started of the same as you and from your advice I actually starting practicing rudiments and now it's all I use, thanks a lot man

  • Im counting 7 notes.. making it a seven stroke roll. i hear rllrrlr am i correct?

  • its acutally just rllrrl.. thus 6 stroke

  • I think its still a 6 stroke roll but the right accent on the end would be the start of a new measure. RLLRRL/ R

  • I´ve become lazy learning new things, but iam gonna learn this thats for sure. looks easy and sounds great! that all an amateur drummer like me needs :)

  • try learning accents, there a great easy way for a new and exicting sound

  • is it me or at 2:01 he looks seedy ?

  • hes just fine who cares..lol

  • nice work man.

these are essential techniques right here..

  • Really, really, really good man!

  • Cooouuul!

  • dude that is awesome!!!

  • great!

    thanks man!

  • am thats so great men!

  • it's all about learning to incorperate your fingers into your playing. it is absolutely necesary to get the most out of your playing to learn to use fingers in a double stroke roll, triplets, and many more techniques

  • Rudiments and no teacher?

Check out the Vic Firth website. You can find lot's of rudiments and online training here. Cick the education button and select education resource centre. Scroll down to 40 essential snaredrum rudiments.

Pick the six stroke roll and select bronze, silver, gold, platinum or diamond speed.

I hope your left wrist gets better this way.

    Cheers from the Dutch Bassman

  • You're very talented drummer.

  • Wow, you're good :)

  • nodd the head

  • Nearly a quarter of a million views on this lesson ! How many drummers aren there ?

  • Im guessing at least 1.

  • Nice basic but very effective stuff...well explained.

  • pause at 2:01 and he looks the david blane spoof...good vid though and your floor tom sounds amazing

  • does the six stroke roll start on 3 in a 4/4 beat?

  • no, not usually u just speed it up, lolz well thats my opinion anyway, u an put the fill prety much anyway, bdw that snare is fuckin terrible :P

    nice vid

  • I would think so. if not then 4

  • sick!

  • kangaroo

  • COOL

  • love the 6 stroke!!! great rudiment

  • The six stroke is my fav rudiment

  • good vid

  • I think that is two different figures you are playing.

  • pretty good... and no offense but you sound like a new york accented brit... so like... its odd

  • so?

be lucky, he doesn't stutter like me :P

  • he sounds aussie or newzealand

  • Hey...not bad. But I should correct you on one thing: what you're playing is not a 6 stroke roll. It's a 6 note pattern for sure, but in a 6 stroke roll the 2 single strokes are not the same note value as the other 4 notes. They would be 8th notes for instance, while the other notes would be 16ths. All of the notes in your pattern are the same value.

You can verify this by checking out the Official 40 Rudiments listed on the Vic Firth Website.

  • i believe u just got served, from a technical point of view.

  • how can it be a double parradidle dumb ass. he starts on the same hand each time.....ive been playing a month and i know this.

  • Brady kit?

  • try adding a rr ll at the end of the the fill and u will be able to count it in a quarter note feel

  • total shit learn how to use a drum stick your sposed to yous your wrists not your arms

  • I think you jealous, he is sort of using mauler.. how ever you spell that. have a good one
