  • torque specs are same for all gaskets.

  • Did you have the same symptoms?

  • @steven240sx Oil in coolant and coolant in the oil. At first I thought it was a headgasket. Very similiar results.

  • The torque specs must be different with the thinner fel-pro.

  • It seems there is too much pressure in the motor, maybe it is the head gasket?

  • @steven240sx Could be a head gasket but funny you should mention the lower intake gasket... I did the same thing on this car with similar results. I too had to do it twice! The Felpro did the trick the second time around.

  • I replaced my lower intake gasket on my 02 grand prix 3.1. I was getting oil in my coolant. The gasket was cracked on one of the coolant ports. I replaced it, put it back together and was great. After a week or so bypass hoses started blowing and the rad cap started leaking. I replaced the cap and hoses. The intake seems to have a slow leak now. I think I need to replace the gasket again with a fel-pro metal kind not plastic. Do you think I should do a compression test? It seems that there is t

  • Hi@Johnnysshop did you disconnected the fuel pump fuse?and the problem is that after i terminated the test the car have a strange noise and i did go off and on with starter please answer me soon thanks

  • @Turbodieselracer I didn't but you should disconnect otherwise you could flood the car, erc.. Not sure what you're asking...

  • If you have a euro bonnet it's a one man job =)

  • @goodolarchie Yeah, pretty easy on the E30 :)

  • would disconnecting all of the spark plugs not run you the risk of flooding your motor? Or do you also disconnect the fuel pump as well?

  • @ncsugray90 You should disconnect the fuel pump actually. You do run a risk but I've never had an issue.

  • @Johnnysshop i figured, ty

  • It's not leaking , the release pressure hit the body causing release pressure.

  • @axenz1 Good catch, never noticed it.

  • Also, I'm suprised these gauges don't have a peak-hold feature. Maybe there's other more expensive testers with that feature, and the standard run of the mill testers just don't include that?

  • @bombardier420 Yeah, this is a cheapo. The better ones should include that.

  • Hey man, I believe what jmc was asking is whether he should take the reading immediately, or wait until the needle comes to a rest. Jmc - I'm pretty sure you need to look at the highest number it reaches, after 4-5 cranks....ie: don't wait for it to "settle". I believe this is why he stated its a 2 man operation...you want to have another person there to watch the gauge so you can get an accurate reading.

  • @bombardier420 Oh.. Yes, should be 2 man op.

  • how do i know what size adapter to use on a 1987 toyota pickup 22r engine?

  • @nico27004 The gauge should come with any adapters you will need.

  • Your plug are down there!?!?! (1:30). Screw that mate lol

  • @sowwhatwhen LOL

  • Johnny_ I noticed in the video that the reading was higher immediately after you stoped cranking the engine but lower when you got back to the gauge. Should the higher reading or the reading at rest be recorded ?

  • @jmc35124 I usually base it on turns. If I turn the motor over 5 times on one cylinder, I take the same reading from the 5th time on each

  • great JOB!!!!!

  • GREAT JOB and THANK U. I"m a young woman in the market for a used car and trying to learn. I'm looking at a Mustang. 09 V8 in stuart, fl my best friend owns a window co> and im helping him get a chrysler 300 for his wife.

  • @SuperJlo007 Thanks for watching!

  • Do you leave the plugs in for the other 5 cylinders while doing compression test on one? Or does that not matter?

  • @RacingG73 Yeah

  • @RacingG73

It doesn't matter, but he manual says to remove them all prior to testing

  • I sure wish this video was louder. I can barely hear it. It look like it would be a very good video otherwise.

  • @vicdoree Thanks.. Yeah, I've since got rid of that camera. Sadly it was as loud as it would go :(

  • The Grand Am it's self is pretty cool. I've had 2 of them. But that Gm 3.1 engine is another story when it comes to gaskets!

    great video!

  • @andersonvillas1277 Yeah, my kid loves her car. Yeah, had to change the LIM gasket already. That was a joy! LOL

  • I have either a LIM leak or a head gasket leak and I have this same engine. When you tilt the engine forward to do the back plugs, is it still safe to perform a compression test despite the front mounts not being in place?

  • You shouldn't have to tilt the motor for the back plugs. It's tight but you can get in there. I wouldn't test it without the mounts. More than likely you have a LIM leak. I had to replace one on this car. I would have taken a vid on it but the camera batts were dead.

  • Should I take the heads off and do those gaskets too? If the Dexcool has eaten up the plastic manifold gaskets, is this same severity present in the head gaskets on these engines?

  • If you have time to, I would. It's 16 or so more bolts and a little more headache. Depends on how many miles. If you've got over 120k and haven't blown a head gasket yet, chances are you many never. The LIM is plastic, head gaskets are normal. Head gaskets aren't real common failure on this car.

  • it got same engine the problem was the rear head blew valve i replace the head new head gasket the car sound like want start the first time start if you press the gas pedal it die now the car sound like yours if can you or did you know something i missing i like you help (ps push rod is in order)

  • Could be just about anything. Could be the fuel rail or anything. You need the order of the push rods?

  • push rod is in roder

  • Comment removed

  • is that your new camra???

  • Yeah, it still sucks. LOL

  • it is quiet

  • I know :(

  • can you do a video on it??

  • nice video. Im workin on this colorodo at work and i was getting over 200 psi after 4-5 cranks. Id like to give my own car a comp. test cuz im loosing coolant too. i hope its not a head!

  • I hope not! I'm replacing the lower intake on my kids car and your basically at the heads so I may change those as well.
