@alphabutch Actually, my experience shows that when the Golden Rule is carefullly examined and honored, my reason, logic and rationality clearly show me that the commandments God has given promote sanity. I know that this video is only using religion as an example, but it is becoming apparent that ALL people (regardless of upbringing/culture/criminality) are entitled to enter "heaven" whatever that may be. Emergency room workers who have (in very few cases) been able to revive near dead people, have witnessed those victims (that aren't brain damaged or in a coma) later complain that they were "there" and "happy" being dead. Christianity isn't an "invite only" way to get in to heaven.

This video makes some really extreme claims to back it's distorted and circular logic. "Scripture IS an authoritative final word on this subject... It IS the word of God" . If you're going to accept the words in a book as not only true, but the literal words of a supreme being, shouldn't there be a very good reason for believing it other than you just wanting it to be true?
It also occurs to me that your arguments for following your belief is distilled down to faith, once again. Besides, I don't believe I would want to follow someone who, through only internal logic, allows child rapists or murderers to enjoy infinite bliss. For that matter, I have a problem with infinite reward OR punishment for finite crimes. So in the end, while I think you made a nice video, it is structurally and logically flawed throughout.
While I found this to be a good structured argument against a straw man, I found that the premises in the video were inherantly flawed. First, you have to "define god" which wasn't done and once you say the bible has been proven to be authoritative (which it actually hasn't), the burdon of proof came back to you for the purposes of your first argument. So, in essence, you can say that Dennis is incorrect, but in reality, your refute was lacking demonstrable facts, therefore, logical fallacy.
Why does god give a shit what I think of him? I question his motives, that he would create a race of beings in his image and make them flawed. I believe in God! but.. Given that knowledge is a true justified belief. Where the justification is any non fallacious logic. Scripture or God is an authority and the power to send you to heaven or hell are appeals to authority and emotion. Both are forms of fallacious logic. Non-fallacious logic is not a justification to say you have a true "justified" belief about God. Therefore you do not "know" God. You can not love what you do not know? How then can God forgive you when you do not love him?
How does a man live a good life with out god? it is kind of easy if you look at it from a different point of view. Yes you are right that we all sin. But for this man, if he sins, he accepts it. Believing that there is no god, and no hell, he takes those sins and accepts that he committed them. This man does not have to believe in god. But believe in science logic and reason instead. logic and reason can teach a man more things about life than two thousand year old scripture of old stories.

In this Jesus says, "you have heard" however the phrase in the old testament ex 21:24 is a direct quote from god to Moses. Sorry to rant, I just think this world would be a better and safer place than it is if all three desert dogmas disappeared and were not even remembered in history.

While we are talking about god not being able to make up his mind lets do EX 21:24 eye for eye and tooth for tooth and then see what Jesus has to say in MAT 5:38 "You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." So when your bible can make up its mind about what god says let me know until then stop talking.

i don't want to say you're a kook. but i went to catholic school for 13 yrs, i've read the NT 3 times and the OT twice. it's a nice book written by constantine with great ideas on adding rules and value to life. but to beleive in a magic spirit called the trinity and take the name of jesus as if its some stamp of validation that gets you into a special clubhouse in the sky is a bit much for me to digest at this point of my life. i might as well believe in the story of the lord of the rings.

Why ask the question if you are going to take your preconceived ideas and subject them on the teachings of Christianity? If you want to understand Christianity, you must take on the perspective and teachings of Christianity. Christianity only makes sense as a whole, arguing against part of it while maintaining your own definitions IS a straw-man, because what you are refuting is not what Christianity is, but your presuppositions projected on it. You are simply being dishonest with yourself.

cunning just like the "scriptures" designed to disenfranchise every individual who through Gods' will is allowed to be born, there are no qualifications necessary. After one gets born then the destruction begins, the destruction of that ultimately perfect and beautiful soul by "legal" means which are a part of the construction of scriptures. The book called the bible, in terms of good and evil, is inherently evil as is every other religious text that proponents claim to be the word of God.

I know that this video is only using religion as an example, but it is becoming apparent that ALL people (regardless of upbringing/culture/criminality) are entitled to enter "heaven" whatever that may be. Emergency room workers who have (in very few cases) been able to revive near dead people, have witnessed those victims (that aren't brain damaged or in a coma) later complain that they were "there" and "happy" being dead. Christianity isn't an "invite only" way to get in to heaven.

If you really loved your neighbor, how can you not love god. God is just giving us the perfect and only way of loving people. It's hard but it's the only way and its sustainable forever, he looks further into the future than any mere mortal ever could. Not following the scripture will hurt us in the long run. We as society have to meet Jesus halfway then he'll come down and help us enjoy following the rules. I look at it like a rookie hockey player than turns off all the rules in the game.

Firstly, how you define "authentic" in this context is of critical importance to the validity of your argument, and you don't say what you mean by it. You have also not stated what this 'proof' actually is, so there's no reason to accept any of the statements you claim are based on it.

This video makes some really extreme claims to back it's distorted and circular logic. "Scripture IS an authoritative final word on this subject... It IS the word of God" . If you're going to accept the words in a book as not only true, but the literal words of a supreme being, shouldn't there be a very good reason for believing it other than you just wanting it to be true?

It also occurs to me that your arguments for following your belief is distilled down to faith, once again. Besides, I don't believe I would want to follow someone who, through only internal logic, allows child rapists or murderers to enjoy infinite bliss. For that matter, I have a problem with infinite reward OR punishment for finite crimes. So in the end, while I think you made a nice video, it is structurally and logically flawed throughout.

While I found this to be a good structured argument against a straw man, I found that the premises in the video were inherantly flawed. First, you have to "define god" which wasn't done and once you say the bible has been proven to be authoritative (which it actually hasn't), the burdon of proof came back to you for the purposes of your first argument. So, in essence, you can say that Dennis is incorrect, but in reality, your refute was lacking demonstrable facts, therefore, logical fallacy.

Why does god give a shit what I think of him? I question his motives, that he would create a race of beings in his image and make them flawed. I'm all for peace, love, community etc. But I don't know why I should be driven to be nice just because I want mercy (aka fear hell). Also, since He is the one and only god, why did he tolerate humanity having separate religions 000's of years before christianity, and then have christianity copy them?

Scripture or God is an authority and the power to send you to heaven or hell are appeals to authority and emotion. Both are forms of fallacious logic. Non-fallacious logic is not a justification to say you have a true "justified" belief about God. Therefore you do not "know" God. You can not love what you do not know? How then can God forgive you when you do not love him?

How does a man live a good life with out god? it is kind of easy if you look at it from a different point of view. Yes you are right that we all sin. But for this man, if he sins, he accepts it. Believing that there is no god, and no hell, he takes those sins and accepts that he committed them. This man does not have to believe in god. But believe in science logic and reason instead. logic and reason can teach a man more things about life than two thousand year old scripture of old stories.
