When Jason hits his attacker, they don't get back up. He is a grapple fighter too, Tommy is bout speed. Jason is a better leader. Tommy is the lone fighter of the group, but bad at leadership. One thing you guys need to remember about Tommy though, the only Ranger to have EVER beaten him in a fight, was Jason. That's a fact. That being said this 20 yr old contest is like picking between Ryu and Ken from SF2. Both are the greatest Rangers. I pick Jason, once morphed he is to be feared.
As a child I remember more boys wanting to pretend to be the red ranger than the green ranger. That was probably because Jason was an every man character while Tommy was a rare dick.
Ever since the Power Transfer episode, notice how the series becomes lighter and lighter in tone. The Red Ranger becomes less and less important, since Rocky replaced Jason. More and more American footage are used from late Season 2 to Season 3. Adam and Aisha made the series look like a joke. Zack and Trini were much more serious in tone.
I think they should bring back the entire original cast from the original season one power rangers, and make a movie! ( trini yellow ranger R.I.P.) and god bless you!
Tommy the Best Lone Ranger N Jason the Best Team Leader Ranger! The way I see it they both are great in different aspect instead of u guy's taking shot's at Tommy! Jason knows Tae Kwon do and Tommy Knows Karate which he is also a 4th Degree Black Belt! Those who say that Jason was more about the team is correct, but the only Ranger that was on Red level was the Green Ranger (American and Japanese Version)!
Actually the scene's are incomplete and Jason David Frank was there for more episodes as the show began to suffer in ratings due to productions decision to name Jason David Frank as their front man ( the gold ranger was brought in after renegotiating Austin St. John's contract to be paid more) Production thought since Austin St. John had little acting experience that it would be best to keep Jason David Frank even though Austin St. John's left on his own
I love this video!It brings back soooo many good childhood memories! Jason David Frank happens to own his own gym/dojo here in Houston and he has all of his Power Ranger memorabilia stuff on the walls which is SOOOOOO AWESOME!! He's like super swole now and a UFC fighter. I saw him one time at his gym and almost had a meltdown because I was like so starstruck lol!

Jason got less screen time than Tommy overall, especially in Season 2 so it's only natural that Jason would have not only shorter fight scenes, but less fight scenes than Tommy during his tenure as a ranger. Don't blame me for the disparity in clip length, blame the producers of the show.

They were 2 totally different styles. Tommy's Karate and Jason is Tae Kwon Do! Tommy was far more advanced as he was a 4th degree Black belt when he first debuted as the Green Ranger! He too saved his friends countless times starting with the Trouble with Shellshock.
Both are equally good. Jason sacrificed a whole lot for the Power Team. He saved his friends many times. Tommy been through the most as the Green Ranger, and later the White Ranger.
Tommy will always be a legend, before his body even morphed and absorbed the power of the power coin, before Rita even selected him, he took care of the putties with just his natural talent, when Jason was confronted with them he had a harder time handling them and he was with a team of friends, Tommy took care of them all by himself, true Jason could handle Goldar in the earlier stages of mmpr, but it still shows Tommy was better in my opinion
being tha 6th ranger still when he became white ranger. In Zeo Jason did take charge when Tommy was gone, but what other ranger could besides him? Thats like tha only time i was glad he took charge, I seen tha old eps n i admit before tommy came along he really did make it about tha team. After tommy came he was gettin more bossier.. Jason may have been tha one who turn him good in MMPR, but Tommy ALWAYS practice his moves gettin better, n he even beat ritas putties on his first try alone. Cya.

Tommy is hands down the better fighter, but Jason is the better leader. Tommy is much faster and more agile, but Jason because of his lack of speed chooses to waste less moves. Similiar to Nightwing and Batman. Nightwing is faster and flasher, but Batman is more direct with less wasted movements.
Jason David Frank and Austin St. John never got along. You could tell in some of the episodes that they really didn't like each other. The only reason why he came back to be the White Ranger, when he was supposed to be on this show called Cybertron, was because Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, and Walter Jones were leaving.

Jason and Tommy are pretty much the Ryu and Ken of Power Rangers. That meaning they are usually compared to often and are also typically the more rememberable characters of the franchise. For me, I choose Jason, not just because of his qualities on screen, but as of late I haven't really enjoyed what JDF has been saying about Austin lately at the cons. Especially when in 07, Austin said nothing but good things about JDF.

O and the comparisson about which level black belt they are means nothing cause during this time im pretty sure neither Tommy wasnt a 7th degree but i think Jason was already at his 2nd degree plus what everyone one forgets is that he is a 1st degree in Judo. Tommy only is a 7th degree in 1 thing with a little knowledge in other forms. Jasons moves were smarter too. Tommy threw alot of flashy kicks that NEVER connected. Jason didnt use many wasted moves.
After recently rewatching MMPR and part of Zeo I have to give it to Jason. Tommy at times kept Jason from trying to do to much as leader cause he did have a tendency to try and go one on one with the big boss. Once Tommy took over as leader you still had that feeling that Jason's word held more weight. In zeo once Jason came back he led the team to save tommy and tommy even came to him about leadership desicions. Besides Tommy only became a good guy because of Jason.

I do like both of them, they're 2 of the greatest rangers. IMO, Jason is the best. He was a great leader(better than Tommy) and a great friend. Tommy was a good leader, I just think that Jason was much better. You don't have to be a great fighter to be a great ranger.
Austin (Jason) is more of a technical fighter. His fighting skills are good for the show and also in real life situations. Jason (Tommy) is more of a of a fancy type fighter. His fighting skills are more so for show NOT in real life situations. So.......Austin St John is better.
I think they're both AMAZING and AWESOME but I think Tommy is the better fighter here. Jason is a WAY better leader than he is and he's sexier than Tommy! Hell they're both SEXY and they rule!

The real reason why tommy became the new leader was because the creators knew that jason was going to leave the show soon so they just had to appoint a new leader before that that is all. there is none of this other reason. both were equally good leaders. In the Begining Jason was the Leader. Tommy was that Lone Warrior that showed up to save everyone. Later when Tomym became white and was appointed Leader. but at that point in the show everyone was experienced enough to know what needed to be done so they didn't really need leader to tell them what to do. If anything it was Billy who was the Brain and a leader when no one else knew what to do.

Tommy didn't need to let the others show that they were capable rangers since they had proven themselves long before he came along. A good leader works with the team, but also stands as an example of strength and reliability. Jason did that. Tommy was strong but he was a lone wolf. He never fought with other rangers except for Jason and Kimberly.

@kbm515 Actually, as the Green Ranger, he and Jason were pretty much even. Tommy was new on the team, he's not gonna become leader automatically. He had to prove himself trustworthy first. And the leader doesn't "let" the others shine if they want to, he works with them and uses their strengths in conjunction with his/her own. You make it sound like Tommy only let the others have moments when he felt like it and that is NOT the mark of a true leader.

@kbm515 Tommy was made the leader because his new powers made him the strongest ranger. He had proven himself a wonderful fighter and a great ally, but up until becoming the White Ranger, he had never demonstrated any leadership ability. In fact, I don't recall Tommy making a lot of decisions for the team as leader, he just kinda gave them pep talks. Jason took command as leader, Tommy was just kinda there.

Season 4 they switched roles cos this time jason was tha 6th ranger n tommy was red..Jason ADMITED that he made tha team ALL ABOUT HIM at tha end of tha show wiff him n tommy...Not in those words tho..He said "i dont want you to think just because im back that im trying to make everything BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS" Tommy said to him "No Ranger is more important than the other. We a team" So Tommy is More Hero Than jason IMO..!
@kbm515 That was in response to Rocky feeling eclipsed and unneeded because of Jason's return. Rocky KNEW he could never measure up to Jason so he felt useless. And Jason wasn't admitting that he was a glory hog, he was simply saying that he didn't want to assume the role of leader again because he knew his time for that position had passed long ago. Tommy was the leader at that time.
Zordon made tha rite choice in makin tommy tha new leader IMO.. Tommy was there more. He took goldar n other monsters down wiff ease n so did tha team during tha time. Tommy even let sum of tha other rangers shine if they wanted to,but tommy being there took sum chips off there shoulders.. Season 3...Shit happens...He was still a great leader but had stronger monsters to deal wiff. It was jus like season 1 when jason wasnt always tha best leader but he got tha job done..

Does that mean he only cares about himself or getting the glory? No. And they lost their power coins because Goldar said that if they didn't give them up, their parents would die. Jason didn't' cause them to lose the coins, they all felt that it was the only recourse.

Jason was always better. Tommy's faster but jason's tougher. Comparing these two would be like comparing goku to vegeta.....well, kindda sorta. Jason's not that much stronger than tommy, just a tiny bit more.
i want to be the first to say that despite being evil...the putties themselves had some really good moves. they made the rangers worth watching. I am 100% Jason (ASJ) fan, but tommy has bruce lee moves lighting fast
It was a shame that Austin st John didn't stick around long enough to fully embrace the choreography overhaul that happened in the 2nd season. All the same, Jason defeated Tommy in combat and made him a good guy, so for that, he's my favourite :)

I've seen the show since I was a kid but i only liked the original power rangers and I have to give this one to Tommy he superior to Jason in every possible way faster, Stronger, and he doesn't need to morph to take care of the job in my book Tommy Is the greatest ranger in history long live the Power Rangers
Jason is better marksman and tommy is a better swordsman
Tommy is a better mentor, more experience, better combat leader and with better resources but he isn't quite the overall team leader jason is although he still one of the better leaders/mentors/fighters in this show
@Dboy4100X3 I know it's just your opinion and I respect that but you might wanna look closer at Tommy cause from what I know, He's not a big egotistical, Cocky, glory-hog. But I do agree that he wasn't a leader. On some occasions he asked Jason for help on leadership :3
Tommy: he is taller with a much longer wing span, he is quick, lightning quick, quicker reaction time, quicker reflexes, he is a better aerial combat, extremely flexible, he is more acrobatic and athletic, agile with a wider arsenal of moves than his buddy, he is a freestyle fighter very very creative and unpredictable and more aggresive, fights like he as nothing else to live for he also uses the environment as an advantage
Jason: he is stronger, faster, more durable, and stamina with better h2h combat, he is an expert counter attack fighter he is a better leader and strategist

I think Tommy and Jason rule! Jason is sexier,his color is red which happens to be my favorite color,and he's a better leader! Tommy has great moves,he was kickass as a villian,but I'm not a fan of the color green though.
@valiare1947 I agree. Jason was a more bulky which made it more difficult for him to do the flashy kicking moves like the ones that Tommy pulls off. I expect Jason to have an advantage if it comes to wrestling though. But I didn't find Tommy convincing as a leader, but his fighting skills make him great as a lone wolf hero.

Being a Green Ranger fan I would say Tommy cause he was my favorite ever since I was a kid but if I was to judge them both fairly they would be equal keep in mind nobody is on par with Jason and Tommy except each other fighting other people its clear though there styles are different they would beat each the other person cause there skills are so high. Put against each other I would say its a tie.
I liked Jason more. To me, Saban saw the success that Tommy was getting and so they started making him look like he was unstoppable by giving him a bunch of flashy choreography which was totally unfair to the rest of the rangers. When he became the White Ranger, it became more obvious that they were making him the main attraction and it was no longer about teamwork. It was Tommy and the Power Rangers. Not Tommy hate going on but I'm sure if Jason got the same treatment, he would kick ass.
@lildamone07 OMG YES! MMPR s2 pt2 all the way up until Turbo (when other FINALLY got to shine some) was all about Tommy being the uber god of the show! I didn't mind JDF skills, but I didn't find it damned annoying how he was give special treatment. He got to a bicycle kick like 4 times and one was unmorphed. S2, after becoming white he was always having solo bout with Goldar and even with Scorpina, or using his white tiger while the others dealt with putties. It became ridiculous!
Even before that in s2, Trini was treated like crap. She didn't have ONE episode of focus in s2, and those half-assed Richy moments don't mean a thing either, esp since they were right before she got canned. They spent too much time focusing on Tommy's fading powers. Zeo, you already Know how much I can't stand how most of the series was about him. Every character was shafted in some way because of how they overused him. Tommy is to PR as Steve Urkel was to Family Matters.
@lildamone07 Yea, I agree..It was Tommy centric. When Jason was the leader it was about team work. Jason was like the older brother who took care of everyone. With tommy it was just about Tommy "look at me look at me". The other rangers got less focus. I like Jason as a leader and character better. But boy they can both get down.
@Bfolks84 Exactly. They are both amazing fighters and I'm pretty sure they'd kick me and my 3 years of Shourinji Kenpo's ass but as far as leadership and character goes, Jason was better hands down. Yeah, Tommy knew how to do flashy moves that were impressive but his leadership skills and character was garbage. He was everyone's drill sergeant when he was the White Ranger, he kept loosing faith in himself and was an emotional wreck as Zeo Ranger Five, and he was rarely there in Turbo.
I'm a much bigger fan of Jason. It's clear that the user that post this video is a Tommy fan. More Tommy highlights were used. It's an unfair comparison in this video.
@StreetChoirMuzik Actually, I'm an equal fan of Tommy and Jason. Both had the same number of clips and I used what I thought were the best clips from both of them. There was no bias, intentional or otherwise.

The White Ranger won.. The white ranger was always my fav! The red one is a really sloppy fighter...The White ranger will always be the best ranger. He just had more better fighting and knows more moves then all of them. @2:00 is Capoeira, I believe! @3:55 is just amazing.. @7:43 is skills
@LoboAscuridad I wouldn't say Jason is a sloppy fighter, he just uses a little less technique than Tommy. And I agree, Tommy is the better fighter, but not by much.
@LoboAscuridad Tommy got knocked down and captured quite a few times as the Green Ranger. It doesn't lessen his fighting ability. I just think that Jason is probably the only ranger who can come close to Tommy in terms of ability.

Ever since the Power Transfer episode, notice how the series becomes lighter and lighter in tone. The Red Ranger becomes less and less important, since Rocky replaced Jason. More and more American footage are used from late Season 2 to Season 3. Adam and Aisha made the series look like a joke. Zack and Trini were much more serious in tone.

Tommy the Best Lone Ranger N Jason the Best Team Leader Ranger! The way I see it they both are great in different aspect instead of u guy's taking shot's at Tommy! Jason knows Tae Kwon do and Tommy Knows Karate which he is also a 4th Degree Black Belt! Those who say that Jason was more about the team is correct, but the only Ranger that was on Red level was the Green Ranger (American and Japanese Version)!

They were 2 totally different styles. Tommy's Karate and Jason is Tae Kwon Do! Tommy was far more advanced as he was a 4th degree Black belt when he first debuted as the Green Ranger! He too saved his friends countless times starting with the Trouble with Shellshock.

Tommy will always be a legend, before his body even morphed and absorbed the power of the power coin, before Rita even selected him, he took care of the putties with just his natural talent, when Jason was confronted with them he had a harder time handling them and he was with a team of friends, Tommy took care of them all by himself, true Jason could handle Goldar in the earlier stages of mmpr, but it still shows Tommy was better in my opinion

Tommy is hands down the better fighter, but Jason is the better leader. Tommy is much faster and more agile, but Jason because of his lack of speed chooses to waste less moves. Similiar to Nightwing and Batman. Nightwing is faster and flasher, but Batman is more direct with less wasted movements.

Jason and Tommy are pretty much the Ryu and Ken of Power Rangers. That meaning they are usually compared to often and are also typically the more rememberable characters of the franchise. For me, I choose Jason, not just because of his qualities on screen, but as of late I haven't really enjoyed what JDF has been saying about Austin lately at the cons. Especially when in 07, Austin said nothing but good things about JDF.

O and the comparisson about which level black belt they are means nothing cause during this time im pretty sure neither Tommy wasnt a 7th degree but i think Jason was already at his 2nd degree plus what everyone one forgets is that he is a 1st degree in Judo. Tommy only is a 7th degree in 1 thing with a little knowledge in other forms. Jasons moves were smarter too. Tommy threw alot of flashy kicks that NEVER connected. Jason didnt use many wasted moves.

After recently rewatching MMPR and part of Zeo I have to give it to Jason. Tommy at times kept Jason from trying to do to much as leader cause he did have a tendency to try and go one on one with the big boss. Once Tommy took over as leader you still had that feeling that Jason's word held more weight. In zeo once Jason came back he led the team to save tommy and tommy even came to him about leadership desicions. Besides Tommy only became a good guy because of Jason.

In the Begining Jason was the Leader. Tommy was that Lone Warrior that showed up to save everyone. Later when Tomym became white and was appointed Leader. but at that point in the show everyone was experienced enough to know what needed to be done so they didn't really need leader to tell them what to do. If anything it was Billy who was the Brain and a leader when no one else knew what to do.

Tommy didn't need to let the others show that they were capable rangers since they had proven themselves long before he came along. A good leader works with the team, but also stands as an example of strength and reliability. Jason did that. Tommy was strong but he was a lone wolf. He never fought with other rangers except for Jason and Kimberly.

@kbm515 Actually, as the Green Ranger, he and Jason were pretty much even. Tommy was new on the team, he's not gonna become leader automatically. He had to prove himself trustworthy first. And the leader doesn't "let" the others shine if they want to, he works with them and uses their strengths in conjunction with his/her own. You make it sound like Tommy only let the others have moments when he felt like it and that is NOT the mark of a true leader.

He had proven himself a wonderful fighter and a great ally, but up until becoming the White Ranger, he had never demonstrated any leadership ability. In fact, I don't recall Tommy making a lot of decisions for the team as leader, he just kinda gave them pep talks. Jason took command as leader, Tommy was just kinda there.

Jason is better marksman and tommy is a better swordsman
Tommy is a better mentor, more experience, better combat leader and with better resources but he isn't quite the overall team leader jason is although he still one of the better leaders/mentors/fighters in this show

@Dboy4100X3 I know it's just your opinion and I respect that but you might wanna look closer at Tommy cause from what I know, He's not a big egotistical, Cocky, glory-hog. But I do agree that he wasn't a leader. On some occasions he asked Jason for help on leadership :3

Tommy: he is taller with a much longer wing span, he is quick, lightning quick, quicker reaction time, quicker reflexes, he is a better aerial combat, extremely flexible, he is more acrobatic and athletic, agile with a wider arsenal of moves than his buddy, he is a freestyle fighter very very creative and unpredictable and more aggresive, fights like he as nothing else to live for he also uses the environment as an advantage

I am glad the poster used only footage from the American version so that way it can be compared in a more even way since they are both doing their own stunts morphed and unmorphed . But I give the win to Tommy .

Tommy wins in speed, agility, flexibility, and aerial moves.
Jason wins in strength, power, grappling, and ground fighting.
Jason has gotten knocked down in fights more often.
Tommy has been lost and been kidnapped more times, though.
Jason makes a better team leader.
Tommy makes a better lone wolf hero.
They go back in forth when sparring; neither dominates.
In the end...
They are tied. They're too evenly matched to choose a decisive winner. They both kick ass, though!

Mine was definitely Jason!
He wasn't as flashy as tommy was, but he was stronger, and could produce more power in his kicks, and he also did a lotta punches like boxing.
And like already was said in comments before mine, Jason put his friends before him, and tried to protect everyone.
No hate reply's please, this in only my view of the subject.

I think Tommy and Jason rule! Jason is sexier,his color is red which happens to be my favorite color,and he's a better leader! Tommy has great moves,he was kickass as a villian,but I'm not a fan of the color green though.

In terms of skill, they are both equal. However Tommy has the more powerful Ranger powers and Jason is a much better leader.

@valiare1947 I agree. Jason was a more bulky which made it more difficult for him to do the flashy kicking moves like the ones that Tommy pulls off. I expect Jason to have an advantage if it comes to wrestling though. But I didn't find Tommy convincing as a leader, but his fighting skills make him great as a lone wolf hero.

@Dboy4100X3 I agree. Jason, IMO, had some fighting scenes that stood Tommy up. The video creator obviously were using clips that made Tommy stand out more than Jason but nevertheless it was a great video.

Being a Green Ranger fan I would say Tommy cause he was my favorite ever since I was a kid but if I was to judge them both fairly they would be equal keep in mind nobody is on par with Jason and Tommy except each other fighting other people its clear though there styles are different they would beat each the other person cause there skills are so high. Put against each other I would say its a tie.

I liked Jason more. To me, Saban saw the success that Tommy was getting and so they started making him look like he was unstoppable by giving him a bunch of flashy choreography which was totally unfair to the rest of the rangers. When he became the White Ranger, it became more obvious that they were making him the main attraction and it was no longer about teamwork. It was Tommy and the Power Rangers. Not Tommy hate going on but I'm sure if Jason got the same treatment, he would kick ass.

@lildamone07 OMG YES! MMPR s2 pt2 all the way up until Turbo (when other FINALLY got to shine some) was all about Tommy being the uber god of the show! I didn't mind JDF skills, but I didn't find it damned annoying how he was give special treatment. He got to a bicycle kick like 4 times and one was unmorphed. S2, after becoming white he was always having solo bout with Goldar and even with Scorpina, or using his white tiger while the others dealt with putties. It became ridiculous!

Even before that in s2, Trini was treated like crap. She didn't have ONE episode of focus in s2, and those half-assed Richy moments don't mean a thing either, esp since they were right before she got canned. They spent too much time focusing on Tommy's fading powers. Zeo, you already Know how much I can't stand how most of the series was about him. Every character was shafted in some way because of how they overused him. Tommy is to PR as Steve Urkel was to Family Matters.

@lildamone07 Yea, I agree..It was Tommy centric. When Jason was the leader it was about team work. Jason was like the older brother who took care of everyone. With tommy it was just about Tommy "look at me look at me". The other rangers got less focus. I like Jason as a leader and character better. But boy they can both get down.

@Bfolks84 Exactly. They are both amazing fighters and I'm pretty sure they'd kick me and my 3 years of Shourinji Kenpo's ass but as far as leadership and character goes, Jason was better hands down. Yeah, Tommy knew how to do flashy moves that were impressive but his leadership skills and character was garbage. He was everyone's drill sergeant when he was the White Ranger, he kept loosing faith in himself and was an emotional wreck as Zeo Ranger Five, and he was rarely there in Turbo.

I'm a much bigger fan of Jason. It's clear that the user that post this video is a Tommy fan. More Tommy highlights were used. It's an unfair comparison in this video.

@StreetChoirMuzik Actually, I'm an equal fan of Tommy and Jason. Both had the same number of clips and I used what I thought were the best clips from both of them. There was no bias, intentional or otherwise.

IMO the older rangers are better fighter :) I think Power Rangers are so cool but only the older ones in the 90s. Too bad people now just makes fun of them :(
The White Ranger won.. The white ranger was always my fav! The red one is a really sloppy fighter...The White ranger will always be the best ranger. He just had more better fighting and knows more moves then all of them. @2:00 is Capoeira, I believe! @3:55 is just amazing.. @7:43 is skills

@LoboAscuridad I wouldn't say Jason is a sloppy fighter, he just uses a little less technique than Tommy. And I agree, Tommy is the better fighter, but not by much.

@LoboAscuridad Tommy got knocked down and captured quite a few times as the Green Ranger. It doesn't lessen his fighting ability. I just think that Jason is probably the only ranger who can come close to Tommy in terms of ability.
