No such thing as melting the ice... It's been proven in the 2010 Olympics with infrared thermal cameras. But the concept is that a cleaner/polished ice slides much better.

I play curling, and yes it actually does melt the ice. But the ice has a lot of pepples, and those pepples are icedrops oppon the ice. But what you actually do, is that you make those pepples more flat, and cleaner. So all the pepples have the same size :)

No, it's proven... The sweeping only reduces the ice temperature by 2 degrees celcius at the most, and the ice is kept at -5 degrees celcius... We are still 3 degrees off the melting point... Search for infrared curling ice melting on google...
