  • wrong choice of music.

  • @gothicgirly94 - so what would your choice of music be?

  • @melvidge Mmmm... horror?!!

  • @melvidge HARDCORE .....

  • When I was 12 I was hanging out in a grave yard in England around 3am just watching the incredible full moon sitting on one of those broken up above ground burial boxes?...

Then exactly like it was out of a movie a wall of fog came toward the church, only maybe 5 foot tall it slowly rolled across the old flint stone wall and engulfed the grave stones one by one till it came to me...

It was just such an odd & beautiful experience, seemed almost magical if you will

  • @IronicallyVague that is wunderful.....id love to hang out at a cemetery...its freaky...beautiful..and chilling..just watch your back..you do get some idiots walking around london or anywere these days..nice to meet you....another thing..goths dont just like cemeteries for death..its a peaceful place .just saying

  • @MultiDoomsday666 - There was no such thing as Goth when I was young & punk rock was the latest craze.. I was just another stupid, loser, weird yank kid who had nothing better to do or nowhere else to go...

But yeah, I don't hang out in graveyards much lol but that experience was very surreal

  • @IronicallyVague i bet it is surreal....and thanks for the reply

  • i lost there !

  • this is eerily beautiful. thanks for the tour!

  • havent there been a lot of vampire sightings n shit in this cemetary

  • The music and pictures were wonderful<3

  • wow man i was blown away by the music..... that was beast

  • Pure free masonry construction....

  • As I am used to say: the older the better!

  • Wow, that looks awesome. I really want to go there now.

  • The people who look after this place have done too much of a clinical job, look at vids of highgate from the 70s and early 80s. Really beautiful and romantic, your mind used to float away!!!

  • it would be great if u show us a footage in ur walk in this place

  • We'll give you credit on the video parts, & btw, the group is US to UK ConnnectionZ if you want to hear some of our music. Thanks man.

  • Can I use part of this as an intro for this youtube vid we're doing for a music video?

  • rest in peace all spirits...

  • i really need to go here

  • I love this video, but why can't I play it on my iPhone?!

  • @sjtom57: that's the theme music from the film "Edward Scissorhands". It was written by Danny Elfman. Just thought you should know since you said you liked it.

  • What a excellent film :)

  • Love the catacombs.

  • its a beatiful place.

  • well they are nice videos and all but i'd be reaaaallll scared to go there at night. even might get shivers in the daytime. this looks like where dracula would hang out.lol

  • @doedeedum

It's exactly where Dracula did hang out in the Hammer House of Horror films (circa mid-60's). They used Highgate as a consistent filming location for Christopher Lee in their various vampire movies.

  • This place is stunning, going to visit it when i go to Englang this year, very historical stuff!

  • i video cemeteries. they are the most beautiful places in any city. well manicured, grass cut, watered, flowers, trees. etc

  • @doedeedum

It's just the opposite with me. I can't stand 'well manicured' places. In a graveyard I want the smell of death, not that of flowers.

  • sounds like music form fable.

  • is this music of Edward scissor hands lol

  • @osker450 haha did not watch the end lmao

  • Beautiful and the music really worked. My dream is to one day be rich so I can visit this cemetery.

  • The music is perfect for this mysterious cemetery. I hope you never take this video off YouTube and never change the music. It would be fun if you (ParVu) or someone else who lives close by High Gate would list the names and maybe a short biography of the people who's remains are entombed in some of the tombs, especially the more elaborate ones. Thanks for a great video!!

  • don't they freak you out i almost had a panic attack. i'm so scared of dying

  • So lovely!

There's beauty in death - most don't want to look for it.

  • @MsOzywood I wouldnt say death... But, yeah. I agree

  • @MsOzywood Excellent comment!!

  • I enjoyed the pictures and the whole clip. I cant wait to get my shutterbox on that great cemetery!

  • I came across a reference to Highgate in Virginia Woolf's "Jacob's Room" and wanted to learn a bit more. The visual montage was better than any history I could have read. Thank you.

  • beautiful place i wish i could go there thank you for making this vid well done that place is full of majic i agree

  • i saw it this march

    everything i saw seemed magic

  • Its a beautiful video, and I am much more excited to go now~

The music selection was perfect :3

  • Wow! I can well belive there are some really wild ghost stories about this cemetery..

    So haunting!

  • this is were the Vampire kills so many animals and suck they blood it stands in all newspaper in the 70ths

  • Very nice Edward Scissor Hands music!!!! :D

  • lovely video sir. danny elfman music goes great with any cemetery video.

  • I think you are a littel sinister..., but apart from this, your video is better, yes.

  • If I sound to harsh; I apologize...I just think death is very somber and this tune is unique. I walked through this cemetery and music was playing in my ears by my cd. It was nice but I didn't like paying to get in there; thats not cool

  • ive walked through this..magnificent place to end up at

  • Those who live near this beautiful place are so lucky. I wish I could visit Highgate once.

  • i worked in highgate years ago

is it safe to be there in the cemetry on your own during the day?

  • PRECIOSOOOOOOOOO

  • Beautiful! This what I've been trying to do.Nice choice of music too.Very thought-provoking.

  • Nice

  • This video is well done. The music does not convey the mood that I prefer when viewing a cemetery. The cemetery needs cleaning up and manicuring. Conditions of a cemetery reflect the local population and their reverence for their dead or lack of.

  • The video is well done and I like the music choice although it does not encourage the mood that I prefer when looking at a cemetery. The manicuring of a cemetery reflects the local population and their reverence for their dead. Highgate does not project the image of people that I admire. Perhaps it is a cultural difference.

  • wow its well er uniquely thought provoking... and beutifully creepy

  • I thought it was ment to be haunted

  • Wonderful. Can you tell me if is this cemetery which appears in 'Sherlock Holmes' movie (the new, by Guy Ritchie)? Thanks

  • love it too much <3

  • Amazing!!!

  • What a beautiful cemetery! Very nice video, I liked it a lot.

  • Some really nice and interesting monuments.

  • When I went to London on holiday from America, this was one of the first places I wished to see. It was eerie, mysterious and beautiful at the same time. I got quite a start from a caretaker who came out of a tomb to greet me. Strangely, her office is IN the tomb!

I asked her if the ...shall we say....permanent residents of the tomb objected. She said, "Not yet."

  • OMG.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! The Cemetery is a walk through time, the music is divine, a great selection. I particularly loved the lady laying on what appeared to be a bed and how you appeared to just peek through. I've placed a link to your video on my best friends "Gorgeous Gravyards" facebook page and have sent it to my mother as well. Great job! Can't wait to see more of your work!

  • 0:17 how many faces did u see there?

    0:24 some other faces there...

    0:36, 0:49, 0:56... n so on... nice vid.

  • whos the artist of the song? sounds something like tim burtons films

  • The music info is detailed in 1) the description, 2) the pop-up ad, and 3) the credits at the end. Now what was the question again? ;-)

  • Very well made slideshow. The music works so well. Please check out my video on St Pancras and Islington cemetery.I`ve found some great music as well.

  • My favourite Cemetery is Highgate - and please what is this music? Thank you for this, simply wonderful!

  • that cemetery is badass, I wish we had ones like this in the states

  • My Grandfather Arthur Lyons is buried there, one of the main entrances was at the very end of my Street 5 mins from my door as a child. I would walk through there often at the age of 6 onwards!

That's where I will be buried one day in the distant future!

    Derek

  • Thank you for this - I'm going tomorrow. Looks amazing from an amateur photographer's point of view!! :)

  • its a nice place for parkour

  • i would love to visit with the stars above me

  • Amazing!

    Music name, please.

  • Its the theme song to Edward Scissorhands. Danny Elfman composed it.

  • i had no idea how overgrown it was. Would love to visit someday

  • in case your all wondering elizabeth stride (one of the grave shown) was the 3rd victim of the notorious jack the ripper in the late 1800's.

  • i must admit this place and some of the old abbeys in northern england are not the most comfortable places the visit after dark.

  • you could have a GREAT romantic picnic in there =D

  • wow i wanna go there

  • wonderful video and song

  • This Is The Most Haunted Place In Britan So Reply To This Comment If U Belive In Ghosts (I DO!)

  • The angel asleep at the end touched me deeply.

  • I love this video, thanks.

  • I generally don't like music on cemetery videos but your selection was absolutely perfect. Very nice.

  • @sjtom57 I dont either. Music is great but they have a tendency to arouse our emotions and inner feelings. big difference with or without music. that is a old cemetery

  • I was there...fantastic.

  • Wow, amazing video, kike the trailer to a movie, it's wonderful.

  • I wanna be buried in this cemetery!

  • Very nice! Thanks alot for posting.

  • very well done

  • Highgate is north london people.

  • the reference to 'west' is in reference to the west cemetery not west london, it's not very clearly titled

  • Beautiful pictures! I am researching this cemetary for a book Im writing & your pics are very inspiring. Thank you!

  • @tarotreadr

IM thinking of a scene in a book im writing too that could be in that place. Its so inspiring and beautiful in a creepy sort of way.

  • I used to go there all the time in the 70's when I lived near Highgate...I have a lot of b/w photos from that time....when it was FREE !! Like a wildlife.. park..

  • omg would u make a video of the pics or send me a copy im actually starting a site soon about older cemetaries and id love to have pix so let me kno

  • I will have to try and find them...oh...I am the same person by the way as poemsapennyeach....one is my poetry and the other my variety ! channel...

  • At 0.45 I swear that theres something sorrounding that statue

  • Fantastic video and soundtrack. Thank you for sharing.

  • Nice video. I thought 'Hillside Cemetery' in Redlands California was beautiful, and it is, but this one is BEAUTIFUL. To whomever made took the photographs for this video, this would be great in B/W or sepia.

  • @goldenrod2 Ive delivered to Hillside in Redlands, it is very beautiful set up in a very beautiful city but im going to have to agree with you, this takes the cake.

  • Awsome! But why doesn't it work on iPhone?

    Arrrrggghh!

  • 0:24 u can see a face

  • Comment removed

  • yes so can i its at the back at section 0:24. if you look at the title of the video . its about one and a half inches below the L in the word london . theres also another face on the right . again its about two inches below the D in the word england .

  • Lovely photos! Great job on the video!

  • Superb display of images on London's greatest cemeterys. Please view my recently captured footage from the East side of the cemetery, by typing 'HIGHGATE CEMETERY GHOSTLY VISION'

  • it looks just gorgeous! =)

  • I've been there 3 years ago and is a magnificent place as the one in Paris....

  • highgate cemetery is the most amazing place in london. shame it's overlooked by so many tourists who would rather sit in starbucks drinking £4 coffee than sit on the Northern line for 20 mins to visit this wonderful place.

  • wow like visiting another time. very gotic.

  • Thanks to all of you who can UNDERSTAND why we love this cemetery, and have such respect for the dead, because we live with memories and its the most painful event of our lives, losing someone we cherished. The rude guy above, mcscarkid is a fool.

I love the music to this video, I have stood there at Highgate and enjoyed the eerie but interesting place.

  • english cemeteries are good only for horror movies. They are suggesting because english people dont care about dead people. So they are abandoned. No policy, no rules, no cleaness, no order, no taste. If all of this was just a collection of artistic stuff, i d enjoy, but when i think a person is forgotten under thost tombs, i can only be disgusted

  • @nevernicksavailable I don't actually understand what you wrote; however, I apologize if I said something rude.

  • @chocolatcats I hope no one think s I was being rude. I'm sorry..

  • It's not about 'liking death' my friend, it's about respecting the departed, and the beauty of victorian architecture, and nature combined.

How would you like to be remembered, or represented when you leave this life?

  • Sweet. I just moved to a flat that's only 2 blocks away from Hightgate Cemetary - looking forward to visiting!

  • A very beautiful vid 5 star

  • Creepy and Beautiful and.. absolutely surreal!

  • thats such a beautiful cemetery unlike elk creek cemetery in schenevus ny thats creepy and very old

  • I went to Highgate in the early 1990s and it's an amazing place, such incredible atmosphere. Hammer Films used the West part of the cemetery in some of their horror movies.

  • What a creepy spooky place. I wouldn't want to be alone in there even in the daytime.

  • What a beautiful cemetery. I don't know why I love cemeteries so much. I think it's because of my connections with the angel of death.

  • omg omg i want to go so bad

i lurve cemeteries, for some reason i find peace walking through them and looking at the tombstones and reading when they died

  • Thanks for that Steve - great music and effects.

Just finishing "Necropolis" by Catharine Arnold, and I really now feel the urge to spend a day at Highgate (and Kensal Green) next time I'm in London.

The whole metropolis is a cemetery, wherever you walk in London you're walking over the dead. Amazing. But London is amazing. Just a note from Perth, Australia.

  • awesome!

  • beautiful place im dying to visit im from scotland so greyfriars kirkyard is my main place i love take walks in check the vid i made of it on my page its a wee bit like this youl see the diffrence from the styles of the cemetrys with high gate bein victorian and greyfriars stretchin back to medieval times you can see the diffrence in cultures

  • Brillaint fim SJ... Did you take any pictures with ghosts in them?

  • Thank you. Very nice.

  • thats a totally sweet vid thanks

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is where i use to hang out with my friends when we were young. we were never bored of this cemetary,

  • what a great place, congrats! this is a wonderdul video :-)

  • I think this is the best video I've seen here on Youtube- Love It!

  • Thank you for such a kind comment. You have inspired me to upload an HD version within the next week or two.

  • musics from edward sissorhands

  • Ugh, I love Edward Scissorhands music. It's soooo good!!!

  • I visited the cemetery on 17 march 09. You do have to pay to enter the cemetery. It,s £3 to enter the east and £5 for the west. In the west side you are shown round by a guide. Take as many photos as you like excepting the grave of Russian spy Litvinienko who you may remember was murdered with radio active polonium in 2006. The cemetery costs £1000 per day to maintain.

  • Comment removed

  • I have seen his grave. He doesn't have a tomb as in the above ground stone type. When I saw the grave it was unmarked except for a photo of the young Litvinienko and some recently tended yellow flowers. He has been buried in a lead coffin. The main reason he is buried at highgate is that there is a fear his grave will be disturbed because he was a controversial figure. He is buried near the tomb of General Sir Loftus Otway. Go Google.

  • Thank you very much.

  • who are you on about because your previous comment was removed

  • Doesn't seem so has haunting, I think its beautiful!

  • SuZora, u said you have to pay to go in to this cemetary and take pictures? Is that true and how much because my friends and I are going there in a couple of weeks and we were unaware that we would have to pay. I'm sure that must be illegal?

  • my friend lives next door to this!

  • hookers etc in highgate cemetery? What a load of rubbish. The thing that annoys me about this cemetary are the old dears demanding payment on entry and telling you that you have to pay to take pictures. What actual legal right do they have to do this?????

  • they dont have a right...I think thats illegal but since this is in London they probably have different laws

  • it costs alot to get it looking so over grown and uncared for! They probably have to pay the council not mow and Strim it

  • @SuZora

Highgate is owned by private members interest (as oposed to a council-supervised cemetery, which is a public place and the property of same). It follows therefore, that they have the absolute right to charge for photography on their premises; particularly as the cost of running/maintaining the cemetery is steep and expensive; bills have to be paid.

  • If you saw the amount of work and money it keeps to maintain Highgate cemetery, then perhaps you'd understand the necessity for charging visitors. (By the way, I visited recently and you ARE allowed to take pictures without being charged). The 'Friends of Highgate' have responsibility for upkeep of the cemetery, and if it wasn't for them and the donations, then the place would be in total disrepair.

  • Beautiful video.

  • As someone who loves to walk in Cincinnati's Spring Grove cemetery, you have just given me a reason to visit London!

  • the music is myrific !

  • Thank you Melvidge!

  • i love that cemetery, too many male hookers n johns walkin round there though

  • loved the edward scissor hands music, gave it that extra touch of mystique

  • Exquisite photography. It does move a bit fast, I wish youtube had some device by which we could pause a presentation. I live in the US but hope someday to visit Highgate, especially the older section. I'm happy to see the wonderful work that the "Friends" have accomplished. Thanks for posting-

  • semiramide1945 Says: "I wish youtube had some device by which we could pause a presentation."

Well you will be pleased to note that the Play button (bottom left of video) becomes a 'Pause' button during play. :-)

  • which is the title of the song?

  • I went two weeks ago and it really is a truely magical place, well worth a visit.

  • This is a very serene place .

Radclyffe Hall is there. She wrote "The Well of Loneliness"

  • So is Highgate a quiet place this days) ;-)

  • aaahahahhaa

  • Highgate is a MAGICAL place, I got some really good photos, the guides are full of info and dont mind you taking snaps as long as youre not going to sell them etc. The DeBeers vault is stunning (take a peep inside - it's mesmeric), the whole place is like another world. Sleeping angels, hidden corners, wildlife - and all for a few pounds - the guided tour is priceless.

  • when i went there they actually let us in the beer vault because the family was visiting it that day lol.

  • i was also showed in in the beer vault when i was there the 1 st of january this year the guide say that he normally arent allowed to show visitors the inside of the vault <3
