They're talking about how the Media moguls manipulate society. Notice the Socttish Rite emblem at 2:37. Neil knows what he's talking about. Brilliant piece of music/art!
@tapkae RRRRRight...more like Obama. "We've taken care of everything The words you read, the songs you sing The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes It's one for all and all for one We work together, common sons Never need to wonder how or why Look around at this world we've made Equality our stock in trade Come and join the Brotherhood of Man Oh, what a nice, contented world Let the banners be unfurled Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand." Neil as inspired by Ayn Rand. Obama???
This was the closest Rush ever came to doing someone else's song. It sounds a little like YOU BETTER, YOU BET by THE WHO during the chorus. Still it is not that close in similarity or in quality.
Haven't u ever felt that rush albums from Power windows (1985) to Test for echo (1996), remind u of christmass?, thats what i fill when hearing this song. Thumbs up if u had.
I actually liked the Presto album from the first time I heard it, on one of my dad's old cassette tapes. I need to get the CD or something soon, but I want to get Clockwork Angels too.
Alex needs to sing more. He's got a rocking set of pipes. Also, after listening to his bass work in most other songs, I was beginning to think that Geddy Lee was incapable of playing a simple eighth note rhythm.
Rush.... nobody and nothing like them. The most amazing mix of gifted musicians along with mature and inteligent lyrics, is just the perfect combination. Their music will outlive them and also all of us.. RUSH!!!
this song is soooo great! i was 10 years old when i first heard it. im 25 years old now and i rock this song in my car all the fuckin time! people look at me weird but i dont care.
@Drewski2112 Lackluster? You have me throughout your comment until then. This tune played live in concert is a standout of awesome. (Although you have to push me pretty hard to believe that anything they've done is even borderline lackluster) "Put you in a soft place, sentimental ease, they know the fantasies that you romance to..." That's entertainment my friend.
this was prob my least fav off presto, but yesterday I really connected with the drums...and the time signature just blew me away,,,anyone know what time this song is in?
@uspsionic it's definitely compound time !...i'm going to go for broke and say 9/8, since the pulse hits about three times per measure, briefly " goes awkward ", starts a new measure and continues....that's my bet anyway !
Its interesting that so many Rush fans hate Presto even though its by far their most guitar orientated album since Moving Pictures. I do dislike the tiny, weak production values of this record though.
NICE!!! I think this and "Chain Lightning" are the only upbeat songs on a predominantly lukewarm album(Though "Scars", "The Pass", and "Red Tide" are killer songs too!! By the way, come MTV never played this, "The Pass", "Stick It Out", or "Noboby's Hero"??? Finally, I think it's time Canada's finest release a DVD of all the promo videos they've accumulated, since they released Chronicles!!!
simply an underrated group by far, I have every one of their cd's and this is one of my favorites.........................Looking forward to 2011 when they put out their new cd. Going to Pittsburgh in fall to see them live once again, # 5.
once i got presto i did not like it at first. i listened to it over and over about 9 or 10 times that day. it has become one of my favorites. it's so different and unique. i think its one of those transition albums between eras of rush music..you guys are the best!!
@emetts2112 This album was the same for me--- this became the album--after tearing apart the lyrics--that made me a RUSH fanatic- havent missed a tour since-- This was my first rush concert San Diego- 1990 and the Sports Arena-- this is definitely my favorite album Rush or otherwise!
