@Waserum1 0% government to 100% is not left or right thats libertarian or authoritarian. Left and right is more views on capitalism which has nothing to do with how much government power there is for example libertarian socialism, Anarcho-communism etc are definitely not right wing they are libertarian and far left. Also a monarchy and feudalism is the opposite of left wing as it is a system of economic hierarchies etc.
I think I'll stick with the traditional definition of "left vs. right" as explained in this video. Your definition is extremely convoluted and frankly, makes no sense to me. Most of the people who have a problem with this video are liberal.... And that makes sense because liberals don't like hearing that "left-wing" means TOTAL government control. You can't be libertarian and socialist at the same time. You can't be anarchist and communist at the same time.
@whywatchthistv .... Now it's definitely possible to have an anarchist society which CHOOSES to practice communist principles such as communal food sources, currency, medicine, etc.... But the political spectrum refers to the actions of the GOVERNMENT... Not the people... Therefore it's impossible to live in an anarchist/communist society in terms of GOVERNMENT, because "communism" implies a very involved role of government while "anarchism" literally means ZERO government.
The 17th Amendment was also a disaster, opening the Senate to widespread demagoguery, beleaguering this country with the likes of Ron Wyden, Joe Biden, and Edward Kennedy. Finally, allowing government employees to unionize AND vote has nearly put the inmates in charge of the asylum. Good luck, America. You'll be needing it in abundance.
America started out as a representative republic. It was formed in the late 1700s after much debate between statists and libertarians. The libertarians prevailed, but since then the statists have been chipping away at the Republic. The Civil War was a huge blow. Then came the 16th Amendment which was catastrophic, allowing the federal government to levy taxes directly on the citizens of the various states.
@rebelstang We also are a Representative Democracy. That's what electing your leaders means. However it's only representative and not direct democracy however.
@HoGraz We are not a representative democracy. There is a backbone of laws in the Constitution that defends the rights of the minority and CANNOT be broken by the majority, no matter if the majority exercises democracy direct or representative.
This is so inaccurate it is laughable.
