what a shame this didn't last - i haven't met anyone yet who hasn't enjoyed the show. Upstairs at the Gatehouse and ArtsEd London have both managed to stage it to great success - maybe studio theatre intimacy makes it work better???
it was the biggest joke in the world when this didn't last. it makes me so sad because i want to go see it again. and then again again. ah, the world! the world the world!
I am putting a special edition 'The Drowsy Chaperone' Vinyl record that is one of 1,000 pressed recreating the man in chair's experience listing to his treasured record on eBay. The vinyl is in MINT condition, and has no trace of the real Broadway cast or the man in chair but the fictional 1928 cast to recreate the record as accurately as possible. It comes with a CD of the vinyl's content. Message me. To know more.
I agree. When I went to see this show in London I had no idea about any of it only the fact that we had cheap tickets. I honestly thought that it was the most enjoyable musical I have ever seen and I was gutted that not enough people knew about it!! It really is about poor advertising!
The trouble on the West End is publicity; I had no clue how good this show was. You can't blame us for not noticing shows like Millie, which had the same problem, as the quality of the show isn't in question, but without the Tony's, The View and The Today Show to shove them down our throats, we're the worse for information.
I made a resolution to find out about shows (like Jersey Boys) from America if I plan to see them here. I don't think being a barbarian (or even a philistine) comes into it.
i can't believe this didn't do well in London....i can't believe I didn't almost see it when it was running, it has turned into one of my favorite musicals
Well English people have a different sense of humor. Take Monty Python for example. Now I'm not saying I don't like Monty Python because I do (I have the whole collection lol), but they just have a different sense of humor. But I do see where yuo are coming from, because this literally is the funniest musical ever done! I have a shirt that says "my friends saw the funniest musical on Broadway and all I got was this drowsy t-shirt" lol
Just saw it in Canada with Bob Martin as Man in Chair... it is by far one of the best musicals I have ever seen. Well written, well directed, well acted and sung... made me smile non-stop for 100 minutes. Sorry to hear that it didn't last in England.
The Drowsy Chaperone was the first show I saw on Broadway and I think it was a great introduction to musical theater. This is funny, energetic, joyful, all things comedy musicals should be.
We were fortunate enough to see The Drowsy Chaperone two nights before it closed in London. By far, it was the best show in town (with Take Flight coming in a close second). And by the way, it looked fabulous.
@CherryOnTop5000, this is the London production. I guess sutton stayed in the us

There still SHOULD BE a OLC Recording, regardless of whether or not the show was able to stay afloat or not!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The English Barbarians didn't accept this perfect musical. They also put vinegar on their french fries. Bad taste all around.

Americans do that too. You never been to the Northeast?

Yes. It's wonderful, and I think appropriate for 12 and up definitely!

Fair enough. And I'm saying that as someone who hasn't yet seen it. It could be wonderful.
Note how i've said that already.

Well it was certainly magnificent when it originally opened. Sutton Foster is phenomenal, per usual.
