There is a free program called You Tube Downloader. It's pretty easy to operate.
Make sure and use this one instead of one of the others. Several of the others say they're free but put all kinds of crap on your computer or only let you download small files.
You Tube Downloader is the one I use all the time.
So You Wanna Be A Rock And Roll Star was a song done by the The Byrds, and written by Jim McGuinn and Chris Hillman.
Thanks for posting this in the long form. I loved this show when it aired on Showtime. I had a VHS copy and made copies for my musician friends, but this will allow me to make a DVD. This is one of my all time favorite specials.
According to Wikipedia he is currently head writer on the Arnold Schwarzenegger / Stan Lee animated series The Governator to air in Fall of 2012.
I saw this when I was 12 and loved it. I eventually caught it on tape and have played the heck out of that thing over the years. Steven is honestly one of my comedic heroes. It is absolutely criminal that this special has never been issued on DVD.
I ran into Steven at Disneyland once and got to talk to him for a while. Nice guy.
Love this show! I've also seen him as "Billy the Mime"
Thanks for posting!

Well, the priest on the rollercoaster opens his eyes,
As a tamborine spins across the sky,
Where the Titanic starts to rise,
So the mermaid orders a chili size,
And John the Baptist tries to harmonize,
With a 4-year-old hunchback sword swallower with 13 eyes...
...IN MY MIND, yeah.

Let's try that again.
It's called SO YOU WANNA BE A ROCK AND ROLL STAR.
It's actually performed by Steven Banks in that soundtrack.
The song was written by a couple of other people but Steven is the singer whose voice we hear at the end of the show.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I remember seeing this as a kid, and I found it today, quite by accident.
