That Medicinal Chemist I used to live w/ told me receptors bind w/ the active chemicals in the drug. Depending on how tightly they do this, the drug is more effective or less so in the patient.
It used to get on my nerves that he knew more about my job than I do.
One time he didn't know more and had a hissy fit at me. But he was better the next day, so I thought he was basically decent.
