just buy an overflow box bro, much easier to deal with. I would always prefer a tank with the back wall drilled though. good luck though hope it works
Hey I know I am late but to increase the box gph add one or two more u bend tubing so then it will be faster then the output on the pump. Without restricting the pump.
all you have to do is drain the tank about an ich below where your gonna drill. i drilled my tanks on the side and ran the over flow that way. leave me your email nad ill send you pics. i can even make you a overflow box if you want. cost about 15.00
Can you explain how I would drill a fully stocked tank? Would be more work to remove all live stock, drain, find another 30g container to keep everything, and pray for a crash not to occur. Ill keep you posted about that flood when one occurs though.
you can place a simple on/off valve in the middle of your pump and/or your tubing to make the levels match. (return pump strength and overflow strength can be matched this way.
Drill a hole in the elbow which is in the overflow box. Add a mini air line tubing and you won't ever get a gurgle gurgle sound. It will always have full siphon because of the air.
if you use a return pump that is too slow for your overflow, your u tube will fill with bubbles and you might loose the siphon.
well, i wound up with that same problem, my overflow uses 1in pvc and i was using a pump that pumped 135GPH at 4 feet. it was too slow and i kept breaking siphon. i borrowed a friends pump that was more powerfull and never broke siphon. so i just ordered a bigger pump.
just wanted to share some personal experience with you to help you with your overflow.
they are not nylon screws, they are screws with nylon lock nuts.
nylon screws are actually made out of nylon. they are just like plastic, but harder to break. you are not supposed to use ANY metal in your aquarium. though i believe you can use stainless steel.
Can you please hook me up with that manual you had there that told you how to make an overflow box?

those bolts/nuts will rust unless they're stainless. Looks good though.

did u add any filters or chambers in ur sump coz all of this would have been for nothing without the filter system in your sump LOL nice overflow but

can you over complicate a simple BAD thing to do. drill the damn tank and be done. let me know when your floor floods

dude anemones move???
i thought they were attached to rocks.

they can sway..

Corals are attached. Anemones move until they find the perfect spot for light and water flow. Having 3 power heads was just asking for trouble.
