Link and Toonlink technique: quickdraw (bow cancel)

iknow this sounds like a bad strategy but it actually works well for team matches to set up oppenents and put them in the air: i first hammer them from abuv with down+b then start whipping out bombs and dropping them from above then dash inbetween enemies, throw boomerang off screen (if possible) and use up+b to bring them all in. extremely good for setting up final smashes like links and zelda's as the enemy can't move =P this has tech has scared my friends b4 they got mad at me

Quick tip I've noticed while doing the SH double arrows: The key to a good SHDA is getting the first arrow out as fast as possible. The sooner you get the first arrow out, the more time you'll have to get the second out. The way I found most useful is using Y to jump an setting X to special, and tapping Y and ALMOST IMMEDIATELY hitting X.

No, because the animation of pulling the arrow out is cancelled. Charging while jumping has the same effect, as you can the arrow let go immediatly.

I'm having some real trouble doing this with TL's short hop. Not the quickdraw itself, but the double arrow. I can never seem to get the timing right. I'll fire the first arrow, but I can't get the 2nd arrow fired in time to do a quickdraw. When exactly should you fire the first arrow to do it effectively? I've already developed excellent control on his aerials, if I can get this, I'll be tournament level.

Hmm... that could be a problem. I always prefer to turn tap jump off, that way I can do Snakedashing and Linkdashing. And I've had it off for a long time now. Do you use the control stick, or is there a way to time it so you can just jump with x or y?

Yes, as long as you have returned to neutral falling animation before trying to quickdraw (E.g stopped reeling from the attack)

This is also called arrowcanceling in another video. What is with the people naming almost everything in Brawl with "canceling" Quickattack canceling, arrow canceling and evin dash canceling(to run after you land without any lag). Canceling seems to be getting either old or cool.

All pro Toon Link users so far make high usage of this technique. Like said below, its great for hitstun so you can follow with a sword attack. Only thing is that its much easier to short hop with Link than Toon Link. On that note, Link's sh plus sex kick is a great move to stave off opponents, cuz it has high priority. With TL, you can sh then follow with a series of fairs, a good combo. Even better near the edge cuz then you can spike!

I find the Double arrow with Toon link to be very difficult. It seems like it would be very easy but I seem to press it too slow....I even tried pressing jump with one hand and mashing B with another in training and it still almost never worked.......is the timing that fast or am I missing something here?

You don't mash it. You time it. Go to training in 1/4 speed and after you shoot the first arrow, look at TL's feet. When they come together you press again.

It doesn't look that great to me. While the animation is seemingly no longer there, it seems to me that if you do that "quickdraw" then you're lagged on the ground for the duration of the draw anyway--you just don't see it. It may be nice for mindgames, but I still think the lag is every bit there as much as it was without the trick.

I could be wrong of course, but it just looks like that to me, unless you paused for some amount of time between landing/jumping aerial in some app demos.
