@danhellerjr Technically speaking, there is no GT40. THE PRESS nick named the 1960s Ford GT a 'GT40.' The actually name of the car was Ford GT. The car in this video is a 2005 Ford GT. Does that answer your question?

@wc3john The stock height on the 2005-06 Ford GT was 43". I don't know if I would say that is "much taller" but it's not 40" like the old GTs. However there were 3 different versions of the old GT the Mark I, II, III & IV... I am not sure if they were all 40" Again, the press nick named the car GT40 because it seemed impossibly compared to it's competition. I simply call this car a GT40 to keep if from being confused with the Mustang GT, which is the common assumption when someone say "Ford GT"

@popwarhomie The Borla I had on the car before this rusted out and fell apart. 10k miles and these FlowMasters are still holding together. The coating had to be changed because the 302 Stainless Steel expands so much but the build quality of these FM mufflers is unquestionable.

@fubar75207 You sure you didnt mean flowmasters rusted out and you had to go with Borla?? Borla is stainless steel and have a lifetime warranty. Flowmasters are known for rusting to pieces. I had FM single chambers on my old truck. I now run Borla and wont buy anything else.

@BDavisOutdoors I have heard strait pipes on these car before and didn’t care for it. It’s just personal preference but the nature of a mid engine car creates a ‘raspy’ sound IMHO. Unlike a front engine car, where the exhaust travels through long pipes from the front to the back (which mellow out the sound). These Flowmaster cans seems the most capable of creating a low grumble (indicative of American V8s) in a short distance.

@ladygodia I understand that you didn’t have time to read all of the posts here but these flow masters were made out of a specific grade of high quality stainless steel, they are a one-off just for this project. I liked the sound of the Borla exhaust I had on the car before this but the quality of the Borla was pathetic. In spite of Borla's claim of a 'million mile warranty', they would not back their product without the paper receipt (which also disappointed me more than their cheap exhaust).

The proper name for this car is a “Ford GT” while the old 1966-69 model was also officially titled a “Ford GT” the press nicknamed it “GT40.” The GT40 nickname stuck back then. I still use that term because "Ford GT” is immediately associated with the Mustang GT and it is simpler to start off saying GT40 so people understand I am talking about a different type of car. @super1million11 Thanks, it is a 2 chamber S44 made out of 304SS. The straight pipes seemed a little raspy for my tasted so we added something with a more robust sound. These seemed to do the trick and keep the volume.

@rokkin1 I had a Borla exhaust on there prior to the Flowmaster. I was personally disappointed with the tone and volume of the Borla. The Borla also cracked at several weld points. Upon closer inspection the Borla was not properly insulated when manufactured. The company refused to consider replacement unit because I cut the exhaust open to inspect it. I have no experience with a Corsa exhaust.

My Mustangs and Cobra use Borla and Flowmaster, Borla in part due to the warranty they offer but if this is how they are going to be then I may not buy new again.

I got nothing but good comments from all walks of life about how good it sounds, at idle and WOT... I personally like the way the Ford Racing exhaust sounds on the GT's, but there pricey. I never had a problem with flowmaster. Borla's are over-priced, Corsa's are good.

There are very few options for a Ford GT. This is a fully custom built stainless steal exhaust that incorporates FM cans because we wanted to capture the American V8 sound. These FMs did a better job with the sound than the Ford Racing Exhaust I had on there before. All other systems are straight through pipes. These FM cans are hand assembled by FM for this specific purpose. It is unfortunate that some people can only appreciate the modification if they believe it costs a lot of money.

@tubesteakdynamo The system was fabricated in Dallas thru Fischer Motorsports. They used FMs Super44 but requested that they use a special grade of stainless steal and that the seams be double welded because of the heat and expansion issues. So the headers were made here in Dallas the muffles were assembled by FM (where ever they assemble things) and then Fischer Motorsports fitted the remaining components together.

When you're talking about a car with over 500 HP, your not going to throw on a muffler and say "holy shit, it's way faster now." Power-adders are power-adders and mufflers are just mufflers.

Although i was wrong about flowmaster being worse than stock, they arent that much of an improvement over stock. I tried the Ford Racing Exhaust (made by Borla). This is a custom system that simply incorporates the use of Flowmaster cans. I was looking for a meaty American V8 sound. This system accomplishes that goal. It is difficult to get that sound with a very short exhaust so I tried something different.
