I got 1 he only comes out at night when my room is pitch black so the only time I get to see him is at like 3am if I wake up n flick on the tank light, then he swims off and hides so I basicly see him about 2sec a month :(
It's hard for me to plan my new fish tank, because I love all lower dwelling fish and my tank is taller than it is wide... Kuhli are a must though. Really cute.
how often do u clean the tank dude its FUCKEN amazing tank something out of a zoo wish mine was like that. my goldies are outside in a BIG bucket with air pumps been out there for over a year now. now i got 2 Juvenile OSCARS in my indoor tank
btw, feeding during the daytime encourages the kuhli's to be less shy, my kuhlis are out in the open about 18/7 so i can almost see them all the time! starting with two is easier as they're easier to get used to the atmosphere, once they are used to it, add a few more and they will automatically spread out in the open areas after 2-3 days after seeing the first two Kuhli's openly swimming around scouring for food scraps
I lost my Kuhli about 8 months ago. I recently did a complete tank cleaning and found it living under the ground filter. It was as fat as my middle finger!
First of all: These are NOT solitary fish. Even tho most fishstores will tell you that. 2 will work, but 5-6 is probably the best number.
Second: If your kuhli doesn't show during the day (if you have a small school they probably will anyway) get a clear decent-sized glassbottle. Just make shure the opening is big enough. Put some sand in it, and lay it on the tankfloor. Put some kuhli-firnedy food in it. And hopefully they will make it their home. ANd you will see them all day :)
@Shareallicu they should be in schools as 3 MINIMUM. they arent gonna die, but its very misrable for them to only have one other of its kind. better get around 2-3 more.
The mud cannot soak into the intervening spaces of sand, like it can into gravel. It only remains on the ground. So the stream of my canister filter and the ground-dwelling pushes it into the inlet of my filter. Once i clean the filter, the whole tank is clean. That's it.^^
@nateRLs There's no rule like that, in fact gold fish and certain other freshwater fish prefer sand because gravel/rocks can get caught in their throat.
I've never heard about such a rule. Sand is a great substrate for most fish, because the interact with it. But as every substrate it has advantages and disadvantages.
5-7 Stück dürften in Ordnung gehen.
(Im Zweifel werden die Welse eher zu groß für das Becken.)
Here in Germany it's forbidden by law to keep fish in smaller tanks than 54 liter (12 Imperial gallons). I think this is a good tank size to keep Kuhli.
it was an undergravel filter, he got under the plate then got into the powerhead hence got shredded, i saw blood spraying out of the filter than saw his little tiny head all battered up thats when i knew oh shiet thats my gold KUHLI LOACH! prior to that i didnt see him for about 3days because he was burrowing and new to my tank.

I can speak german to a man, which account is from Germany ;)
but:
i`ve already got 6 of them. You should get more than three, they need a higher population
so 6-8 pangio kuhlii would be the best

nice kuhli i have one too and a weather loach. The kuhlis stop growing around 4in

Jamese3 2 years ago
It's harder to find southeast asian fish during the rainy season there (May till October). They don't export many fish during those month.
n03lzz 2 years ago
Why dosen't my loach have those orange stripes? Mine's just copletley purple.
MaxtheMetalhead 2 years ago
There are cultivated forms that don't have the stripes anymore.
n03lzz 2 years ago
And they're still called Kuhli Loachs?
MaxtheMetalhead 2 years ago
Their latin name is Pangio kuhlii.
So Kuhli loach is still a good name, "loaches com" call them that way, too.
In the USA it's more common to call them Coolie loach (looks like a misspelling^^)... that's what "fishbase org" says.
n03lzz 2 years ago
Yours is probably pangio oblonga; these are pangio kuhlii. Oblongas are often labeled as "Kuhli Loaches" in pet stores, but they're not true kuhlis.

Any idea where to purchase them online or elsewhere? Having lived in FL and now NC (USA), I'm not able to find them for sale anywhere...
slappy2825 3 years ago
Sry, I can't help you with that, but maybe some other youtube users.
Here in Germany it's almost impossible to buy living animals online.
Further it's more hard to find some Kuhli loaches in shops from May till October, cause of the rainy season in Southeast Asia.
n03lzz 3 years ago
I bought my three at a pet shop. Best thing I'd recommend is to call around and ask. Alot of places can order them in for you.

have you matured your tank yet? New tanks need to be run for atleast 2-3 weeks with cheap fish before introducing others into the tank.
The ammonia and nitrate buildup can't be controlled because the tank hasn't grown the bacteria to remove those toxins from the water.
Put some Cycle in your tank too.
