@DrCruel "their alliance didn't last" You are right of course, but you must also realize that Stalin was quoted as saying that 'he liked Hitler.' This was of course before the nazis invaded. Stalin was a source of terror which dwarfed most other Soviets. Without him things would in all likelyhood have been a bit diferent, would they not? I'm not a communist, but I just can't help but wonder if Trotsky wouldn't have made a better leader.

You forget, the big argument at the time of Trotsky's fall was whether to make good on Trotsky's promise to "liberate" the rest of Europe - by force. Trotsky wanted to invade Poland and Germany as soon as possible, and would likely have been prepared to do so by 1937 or thereabouts. Stalin, by contrast, backed the "communism in one country" idea, and was leery about the USSR's capacity to wage war beyond their immediate borders.

@HelgiWartooth777 Stalin may have been a professional criminal and a paranoid psycopath, but Trotsky was an aggressive, maniacal lunatic. If Trotsky had risen to power, the post-Lenin history of the Soviet Union would have been much more like that of Nazi Germany. Trotsky would have almost certainly been the aggressor in WW II, and likewise almost certainly would have overreached with his forces (as he did in 1920) and might even have managed to lose the war for the Bolsheviks.

Когда я служил солдатом в армии 1987-89 г. когда мне было тяжело я про себя напевал эту песню.И она мне реально помогала переносить тяготы и лишения воинской службы.
