I'm glad you included the cassini call in this mix. They are so very underrated as a part of the Magicicada emergence, but so amazing to watch their synchronized chorus..
Oooh baby at :56, out he comes. It was just last year we had them covering everything. You had to shuffle your feet so you wouldn't crunch them. Now they all went underground for another 17 years.
Wow! Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked my song and video. It's truly amazing how nature provides a "symphony" for us every time we walk outside! Cheers! :D
Very good job on the video, I live in TN and I've grown up hearing their lovely singing every year. I don't much care for bugs at all, but I've never minded these guys ^_^
very intersting, These insects are mentioned in Homers Iliad and their "delightful chirping" is likened to the trojan elders all sat around having a good natter, which is quite wonderful imagery.
Totally mind blowing and inspiring. I am a poet. I am writing a poem on cicadas and will link your viceo to it for everyoen to come and enjoy. thank you for this..I just felt Creator's breath and felt his pulse.
It's a musical interval that provides the most consonant, or stable, harmony outside of the unison and octave. One way to recognize a perfect fifth is to hum the starting of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Or, if you have an instrument, play the note "C" and then play a "G", that's a fifth.
Me to enchanted the video! that music that accompanies it is very original can even be appreciated magicicada doing sings of bottom as I enjoy this song: D you have a very good camera will take note to buy it someday and to be able to film the cicadas since your you have done:) by the way almost at the end of the video appears a stingy Tibicen plebejus emerging in the leaves from a Maple truth? that species of Tibicen is?
Thank you for your comments. When the 17-year cicada emerged in Maryland, I was amazed that they sang in perfect fifths. So, I decided to compose a song using their voices and add it to this video. It makes you wonder how much the sounds of nature have influenced our appreciation of music. I'm sorry that I don't know what species of Tibicen the one at the end is. If I can find out, I'll let you know. Have fun making your videos!
The seventeen year cicada feeds pretty much every creature around it, including the herbivores. Which in turn creates healthy, prolific wildlife. Also in the laying of the eggs, it prunes the trees creating better growth the next year. In dying it nourishes the ground like a fertilizer and the trees and plants enjoy an unusual growth spurt. It shows its power through its song, and shows us humility in that it has no defense and offers itself to all who need it!

I know that cicadas come around every seventeen years but what is their purpose? What is their job?
bvana9715 4 years ago
Same job as every other living thing on the planet: to reproduce!

To eat bacteria that can harm trees.
They are helpful, and they are very cool.
