thank you to all who appreciated my love for the pumpkins by posting comments. They are a group that inspires great emotion through music. Their music touches the heart and soul. I would love to thank billy, james and the rest for creating such beautiful and timeless music and sharing it with the rest of us.
I had no idea there was a video for this song- WOW... as I wipe my eyes... This song reminds me of first love and having to move away. wonderful video. Funny watching it when I am 30. Still wrenches me but differently. Thanks Pumpkin people. LOVe---
@msmel141 I am sitting here thinking the same thing... I had NO idea there was a video for this song and back when I was a teenager this was my absolute favorite Smashing Pumpkins song. I used to listen to it over and over sometimes...just so beautiful. I'm glad I found it now though, about 15 years later. :)
I just read some ones review about the cd to me the first cd off of this cd was really hard but there is one thing that the person left out in the review the reason why the 2nd disc is so slow its called mellow so think about slower music... But anyways I've always been a fan of them because of this cd and I hope they go back to this style then trying to be like everyone else.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard. I miss the wonderful 90s sooo much. It leaves me depressed now realizing how great the music was.
I love 90's music and stuff :) I love the rebels of my generation...and I hate most of this new generation of ''rebels?'' wanna be badass- ''gangstas'' by hating on every single thing they see or watch, calling homosexuals ''fags'' and disrespecting each other and fighting for ''who is more badass''... before it was all a rebelion against the system, we all together fighting against the bullshit, now? the spirit has died
Billy Corgan is a artist. This song is just so excellent on so many levels. Poetic and its meaning is deep. Music is a art form that reverberates through time and space. Music like this I hope will always be in culture.
@MegaFrostySnowman just pushed a guy off a cliff. he hit his head on eighteen rocks. he imediately stumbled home, got on his computer, and disliked this song in his mad rage.
@PlamerEldritch I don't want to interrupt anyone's 'fun' here, but I think the factual correction tristessa is talking about is whether or not Billy Corgan was in a relationship with Jenny Polamma. I don't know the truth of the matter either way, but that seems pretty factually based to me. I had to google cold reading myself,,,
Except I'm not. I corrected someone because they made an incorrect statement, then added some thoughts on what I thought the song could allude to. And I get called a 'dumb bitch'. Says it all really.
Love the way this video is shot, completely of polaroid photos. If you have the "best of" dvd that has all of the music videos up to Adore, I think it is, they have the behind he making of this video and it's just amazing.
Its deeper on a lyrical level. At the time this song was written Billy was going through a troublesome breakup with longtime girlfriend Jenny Polamma. This song is about making love last forever, and getting over initial problems which are bound to happen in any meaningful relationships. He's telling us all that we have it in ourselves to find a new way around problems that may arise and that perhaps, in the end, it"ll be worthwhile
Jenny Polamma? Billy has been in no such relationship to my knowledge. I think you mean that at the time he was going through stages of divorce proceedings from his then wife Chris Fabian.
In addition to your comments, the 'Thirty Three' likely refers to the alleged age of Jesus’ death, thus many of the lyrics allude to notions of forgiveness, devotion, eternal connections.
I was only around for five years of the 90s, born in 95, but I grew up with stuff like this. My brother was always playing Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Beck. My parents were always playing Chicago, the Beatles, Beach Boys. My sister was the only dud listening to NSYNC and that stuff. I always ignored that part of the house, thank God. I grew up around fantastic music and that kept me from getting drug into the crap music today. I grew up around the oldies and I am damn proud of it.
@edbaron95 You touched a interesting subject there. In your house there were several generations, each of them identified by a distinct sound that pretty much reflected their teenage years. The thing is, there's no new real music beyond the late 90's. The cycle has been broken. Right now there's no sound to whom the new generations could identify themselves! Justin Bieber and crap? Gimme a break! That reflects only the commercial tendency of this sick times. It's kinda sad really...
@edbaron95 Ugh, people who say music today is crap are the kind of people I fantasize strangling. Makes sense you're like 15, because I'd hope someone a decent age wouldn't be that stupid.
@beanhouse55 Why are there such jolly ole souls like you around? I always hesitate when writing a comment like the one I did because of you, but I still do it because I like hearing about others peoples' lives so I tell them about mine. Sorry a disappointed you so much with my comment on Youtube.
@beanhouse55 Well, I guess that's your opinion. My opinion is that judgmental pricks who call people douche bags because of a comment they wrote on Youtube don't deserve to be around very often. That doesn't mean it's right, because it is probably morally speaking very wrong.
@edbaron95 ----- excellent comment ! and yes, you can be proud of growing up with "oldies", as you say ! and considering what music industry dares to offer today, and mostly what's in fashion, you can be even prouder !
You, your brother and parents have very good musical tastes, in my opinion. and thank God, there will always be people to get to know and like all this wonderful music ! long live classics ! all da best 2 ya, man ! ;)
@aaronfoley51 What the hell does that mean? How the hell do you know that? How dare you say I copy and pasted something like that. My brother is dead and my mom has cancer you asshole, don't you be saying I copy and pasted something about them.
And what hell am I supposed to expect from a top comment? A trophy or something?
@aaronfoley51 I did not copy and paste that. But, there's really no way of convincing. Oh, wells. I apologize for the previous comment. Well, the first part, I know a top comment won't get you anything. And besides, I don't really like trophies that much.
@edbaron95 No I'm sorry, I thought I saw that comment before, it was just where you mentioned your sister listening to Nsync, it triggered daja vu, but really it was just a similar comment I saw. I figured that out when you apologized, I thought maybe your not full of shit, in the end I turned out to be wrong. Sorry for getting offensive, but I don't like to see a shallow top comment in place of a genuine one on music vids that I love. Turns out yours is genuine, sorry again.
I grew up listening to this album, but I wish I had been older in the 90s to remember everything better. This music actually makes me feel, think, listen, be...and music nowadays does nothing similar. This is one of my favorite songs off of Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness, along with Cupid De Locke, 1979 and Porcelina of the Vast Oceans. But that's just a personal opinion.
I'm not sure how to describe in words what this song makes me feel. I was definitely there & a fan in a big way when this came out. I wonder if certain emotions get stuck in time because it feels like I just opened some sort of emotional vault, that I'm not very at ease with. This song was kinda the soundtrack to some hard decisions in my life way back when. I guess we're never as wise in retrospect, as we feel right now, oh well & ouch!
Jesus died at 33..... not sure but think thats part or the meaning of this song......steeple got into my heart and home...........btw you assholes who leave ignorant comments to videos you will be judged........promise
i heard this song on the radio and was like oh shit i love this so i had to look it up just using the recuring lyrics..."you can make it last forever,you"... and this is nothing clos to my ussual stuff
I was a senor in high school when this song came out, the smashing pumpkins totally kick ass, I love listening to them now just as much as I did back then.
I grew up in the 90's...It's nice to see so many younger people...teens today appreciate the 90's rock/alternative/grunge music scene we had back then. The music was so different then. Even the R&B was so much better then. Maybe thats why the record industry is in the toilet.
@sass1511 I've always felt that 90's music was the best, but I thought it was just my nostalgiac attachment because I grew up in the nineties. It's cool to see there are kids today who feel the same way. And to answer their question, yes it fucking ruled growing up in the nineties.
@sass1511 I've always felt that 90's music was the best, but I thought it was just my nostalgiac attachment because I grew up in the nineties. It's cool to see there are kids today who feel the same way. And to answer their question, yes it fucking ruled growing up in the nineties.
@sass1511 Depends where you look, there's plenty of good music out there if you want to find it enough. Step one, however, is turning off your TV and throwing out your radio.
@sass1511 Companies are promoting values thru music again, not since before rock and roll took over the radio have we been so expoited and dehumanized by corrporate agendas in music, there is a negative target on each audience, real artists are censored so dumb asses can peddle garbage.
@sass1511 excuse me, kids don't listen to this anymore.i love it more that anyone, but dont kid yourself that kids are into 90's alt. if you think that, you're a fuckin retard. who listens to r&b. you probably had to look for the" &" key. dont give the young kids credit that have no idea what they're talking about.. ........ it's so nice....my ass.....how about you just love the band.too much to ask?
@astrodub88 Dude, I'm a kid (not a little kid, to me a kid is someone 19 and under) and I listen to this, don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about too, because I actually LISTEN to stuff like Rush's albums (Caress of Steel and foward) along with Hendrix (Such as Hear My Train A Comin'). The kids feel this stuff too. Unless their like 12-14 and under, then PROBABLY not.
@AndrewArriola on VH1 Storytellers, Billy basically said he wrote the song hoping to have an actual happy life. There do appear to be Christian undertones, but I don't think he wrote the song solely about Christ. It's possible though. Fun fact- it was the first song written for Mellon Collie
@drrt0grrl I think that might be the point he was trying to make. Because he can objectively listen without feeling an nostalgia and still thinks they're the best.
I mean, not exactly like that considering he's 14, but you know what I mean.
Amazing song. It's all I can say.

I was a senor in high school when this song came out, the smashing pumpkins totally kick ass, I love listening to them now just as much as I did back then.

The 90's had a lot of great bands. This double cd was great. They peaked after this, though.

And to answer their question, yes it fucking ruled growing up in the nineties.

blisterpacman 7 months ago
@sass1511 Depends where you look, there's plenty of good music out there if you want to find it enough. Step one, however, is turning off your TV and throwing out your radio.
JSCwrd 6 months ago
@sass1511 Companies are promoting values thru music again, not since before rock and roll took over the radio have we been so expoited and dehumanized by corrporate agendas in music, there is a negative target on each audience, real artists are censored so dumb asses can peddle garbage.
SidewaysBurnouts 6 months ago
@sass1511 excuse me, kids don't listen to this anymore.i love it more that anyone, but dont kid yourself that kids are into 90's alt. if you think that, you're a fuckin retard. who listens to r&b. you probably had to look for the" &" key. dont give the young kids credit that have no idea what they're talking about.. ........ it's so nice....my ass.....how about you just love the band.too much to ask?
astrodub88 6 months ago
@astrodub88 Dude, I'm a kid (not a little kid, to me a kid is someone 19 and under) and I listen to this, don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about too, because I actually LISTEN to stuff like Rush's albums (Caress of Steel and foward) along with Hendrix (Such as Hear My Train A Comin'). The kids feel this stuff too. Unless their like 12-14 and under, then PROBABLY not.

It's nice to know that kids nowadays like Smashing Pumpkins better than, say, Guns n' Roses. You are absolutely right.

@AndrewArriola no
madcircle1970 7 months ago
@AndrewArriola on VH1 Storytellers, Billy basically said he wrote the song hoping to have an actual happy life. There do appear to be Christian undertones, but I don't think he wrote the song solely about Christ. It's possible though. Fun fact- it was the first song written for Mellon Collie

@drrt0grrl I remember some of the songs that i heard from the 90's like some songs by 311
MegaNoah360 7 months ago
@drrt0grrl I think that might be the point he was trying to make. Because he can objectively listen without feeling an nostalgia and still thinks they're the best.
I mean, not exactly like that considering he's 14, but you know what I mean.
