you r quite good but not much and you arent good at making vids or explaining. you forgot to mention wat you do with your feet to help get the back wheel up
@aussieracer41 You are a retard. Manys good riders ride without suspension on some rides. It can help improve technique and line choice or just offer a different challenge, there are many other reasons. I would put money on it that he would own a full sus bike as well.
If the bike is heavy, it will affect the performance when trying to lift the back wheel right? As in, would having a heavier bike , make it tougher to do a bunny hop? lifting of the rear wheel part
@XxBlezzxX yeah the weight would affect it. My forks have some good weight, I can lift the rear end easier than the front for some reason lol. Your frame might be heavier at the back than at the front, just depends on the bike
I know this guy in real life his name is Erin he is a fat for real does that answer all your questions he works in hill crest da Diego mission hills bike shop
@sdalby: Totally agree! All the talk on YT of "can my bike handle these trails since it's not got 3 feet of travel front and rear...????" C'mon people, back in the day when the likes of Gary Fisher and Tomac first rode, they hucked jumps, drops and wheelies on ROAD bike frames with fat tyres! And did it as fast as nowadays (just bumpier!). I've only just started riding front suss/HT and will put most Full suss to shame! Never let equipment get in the way of technique, JUST GET OUT AND RIDE!!
@malomator Not true really. A lot of the new breed of 29'ers are fully rigid, as are hardcore single speeders (eg Charge Duster). I'm in a MTB club and I would say that 50% of the members have a fully rigid MTB build.
this vid is fine he showing basic techniques for basic tricks and old school bike are best pussy need suspension i ride old school mongoose and it's awesome
Why all so negative and insulting? Yes its a mountainbike. No not an old one (look disc breaks). Some ppl just prefer to have no suspension. Doesnt make it less of a mountainbike. He's explaining well so no need to insult the guy. Don't like it? Fuck off please.. Jealouse pricks
all you nay sayers that completely belittle this man's skill or ability are completely ignorant and missing the point of the taught lessons. So yeah maybe you guys are more advance (maybe!!), but then again....... choose another video, because these videos are obviously intended for the novice rider who simply wants to learn new techniques. Stop all your egotistical irrelevant comments that make you sound like, not only a complete ass, but also like you're an immature high school kid.
Ofcours, im from poland and about 94" we dont have a lot of bikes in store. My first bike was ordynary shitty hard mtb. But I still watching ex channel on satelite and try to do what they were doing. Now a heve kona stinky and my problem is no time.
PS. Forget about my mistakes. Im better speaker then writer.
TO ALL YOU DIPSHITS moaning about how crap his bike is and how silly he looks - first of all: SO WHAT? he's showing useful techniques. Secondly (presuming you're old enough to remember the 90's) it was once very common for even pro's to ride MTB's with little or no suspension.
@neettim its about how you hold the handlebars, and you put backwards pressure against your petals. effectively wedging yourself between the handlebars and the petals then jumping without moving your feet. the bike will follow. its easy after you get the hang of it...
he sure does explain it connfusing but since i practiced it my self its much not so hard. the most inportand thing is to push your handlebars forward when jour frond wheel is in the air then you dont need to use your feet at all
i actually had no clue how to bunny hop. when i try doin it i end up getting off my bike instead of getting my back wheel off the ground lol :) so i ll try it... thanks anyway...
Reading some of these tips and tricks for mountain biking has been just like watching videos of Van Halen (I can't think of a better example). Half of the posters do nothing but take pot shots. Roth is better. No Sammy is. Geez. The guy is making valid points about technique, trying to assist riders, and some among us would rather nitpick about his breathing, his "um"ing, his bike, and apparent lack of skill. Where's your sense of community?
This is an excellent explanation - I am using your technique and I thank you. I live in Dallas Tx so we are limited in trails but learning these tricks takes the edge of the ole boring ride in my neighborgood- thx
@flippy0450 How is he gay? Clip ins provide more efficient transfer of energy because you can put positive pressure on the pedal through 360 degrees of rotation unlike platform pedals in which, at max, you can only put pressure on for 180 before the need for back pressure to keep your foot on the pedal.
@Petersworld518 if you think of your cranks and how they are natually in an opposite position, you should be able to perceive that what you are describing has no effect at all! you are always pushing your pedals, not pulling them! =P
also, the effect you are describing only takes effect when you bunny hop. which then is NOT a proper form to use for DH riding, I know someone who has raced DH all his life with clip pedals and has sustained multiple broken bones, spine, pelvis!
@Petersworld518 you could say that it is pedal efficient if you have trouble keeping your body posture correct, or have trouble with keeping your feet on the pedals. Its gives you a more confident control of your pedals but if your looking to race DH, there will be times when an extra split second is the difference between a clean bail and broken bones! =O Also tends to condition you towards a improper bunny hop technique!!! "dont lift the pedals-use the scoop to keep ur center of gravity back!
what a fuckin idiot, im coming from a bmx background looking for downhill tips and was just curious as to why ud need to bunnyhop a mountain bike. this really is a terrible how to, i can hope about 2 and half feet on my bmx and when learning i didnt use one technique he explained
i can only assume that everyone saying this is not a MTB because it has no suspension are young arrogant kids. Us slightly older, more genuine MTB'ers might remember that there was no such thing as suspension until maybe mid 90's? All MTB's were rigid, yes, including Downhill
I HATE when people say "Mountain Bike Tricks" or whatever when they do not have neither front or back suspension.. it is just an oversized BMX bike! I mean come one, lets see how smooth you are on a full suspensioned bike! Thats where the skill is! This is just pure cheating PLUS he has Clipless pedals/shoes *rolling eyes*
@braaup haha thats true. I ride an 09 norco 250 so it's sort of an oversized bmx but it's got a wicked fork on it. It's much harder to bunnyhop on a 26 inch mtb than it is a bmx. Not to mention a j hop isn't a "trick" hah

is it possible to bunnyhop to that height with any old bike? I have a few year old bike-shop schwiinn.. can't seem to get any height. Just need more practice or is it the bike?
You can practice with any bike, but the frame weight is the largest factor. Front shocks will help with the initial downwards push, but I started learning on a old steel bicycle.
You do not need a special bike or pedal grips to do a good bunny hop. It came naturally, for me. Your under thighs play a significant role as well. Momentum will take you the rest of the way.
It really depends on what you want to do. Try a mountain bike specific forum for answers. I wouldn't buy his bike for off-road,
It has no suspension (now I know it doesn't have to have it but it helps to have front at least) and also it still uses V-Brakes.
I wouldn'y use this bike on trails, because the brakes might get logged up and it would be such a rigid/uncomfortable ride.
