Try looking up on the Joker in the dark knight. study its characteristics, and make it original and spice it up. Your going in the good road as of now, but there is much improvement.
@ohwhatamasterpiece I never said to be like him but to study him. First rule of theater acting - Thy should research thy character thoroughly! Another is "Thy shall accept all criticism" Now in this video reminded me about the Joker, I recommend you look him up and see how it is. I'm just merely using him as a reference. There are many characters that followed to as what you described as a "psychopathic person". How long you've been acting?
@ViciousRiceX i never took theater acting. i was trying to make it an audition like film. I studied it in four days. Did one take. If I used Heathe Ledgers performances a refrence I might end up using it and becoming a wannabe, heath ledger joker stealing actor.
@ohwhatamasterpiece Theater OR film acting I know the two pretty well and the rules still applies to both. You must research. Looks like your just filming without taking the time to understand the character "thoroughly" and thinking you've figured it out. Like I said again, I never said to steal it and be exactly like it but to study it. Trust me on this, you can never be the same. And you started acting not to long ago and no acting coach? That explains why you're so defensive.
@wgamador it was alright. I guess it could have been better but yasee i play different kinds of crazy or whatever, I can do the portrayal if someone will say, hey do it like this.. Thats no problem for me. Anyways I just started acted at the begininng of the summer so its all new to me. I havent had any acting experience or auditions.. |I dont know what Im going to do yet..
@partawell Yeah.. i tried to make it like a crazy guy with attitude.. but i didnt mean to make it like the joker.. but i guess its similar.. Thanks for the comment.
@ohwhatamasterpiece Whoa dude. Your a good actor don't get me wrong, but even Marlon Brando has haters. And although the people who disliked the video maybe "jerks", have an open mind. Take a minute and think about why those people could have possibly disliked the video and learn from it if you find any flaws. Well, that is what I would do. Take it, or leave it.
This is very good, I totally agree with what some others have been saying, your timing is what makes it so good. You arent afraid of pauses and thats a good thing. This was actually really funny!
You took a chance and made a firm decision-good. Lot's of transition and variety-good.Really good "stage" performance, but it lacked the reality that would make it a believable film performance. I saw you switching back and forth from funny to serious. What would make it better is if you felt the hurt and pain the entire time and LAYERED the funny stuff over the pain. When you did the funny i stuff I just saw you "acting" funny. Try feeling hurt the WHOLE time, and try to hide the pain with humor
@jackette55 Well a lot of people liked it and I knew there would be some that wouldnt... I'm going to learn from each video I do.. and become better and better.. ill take your opinion as constructive criticism
@ohwhatamasterpiece lol i mean you remind me of a famous person or just someone i know. or maybe its your acting style thats familiar. im not sure! hahaha, youre very good though!
You are PLAYING "insane" rather than BEING insane.Meaning you are indicating to us"look at me I'm a crazy person"rather than being a crazy person who's trying to convince us he's normal. It's like when actors play drunk characters, they "act"drunk-but real drunk people don't go around saying"look at me I'm drunk watch me trip and fall" They do their best to convince us that they have control over their motor skills. It's a matter of playing opposites. Be crazy and try to make us believe you're not
I watched this 3 times I dont know if I fully felt the emotion you gave was true. A few times it seemed like you were doing a joker impression. There were times in it where I think you made the wrong choices with the act. I think that you should have built up to the point where he was really upset more so it could be more shocking when you get really mad because he cant hold it in any longer for a moment and then by the snap back into the funny guy act!
@caldxm Oh well thanks for your honest feedback.. I love all the good comments, but once in awhile your going to get a comment like yours, and I agree.. sometimes you wish you could change certain things, but you can't.. I actually would have changed alot but.. I didn't do more then 1 take. I memorized the monologue, found a character and did in it all in one shot.. as you can see the beginning wasn't exactly intended with that LONG pause.. i forgot my line lol.. but i thought, just go with it..
@ohwhatamasterpiece You still got thumbs up from me cause it was good! I didn't want you to think that was a diss I just wanted to give you real feedback because most times people on youtube will say things are great or just not comment at all and on your channel you said you wanted to use youtube to judge how good you are at acting! I think you can evole and be greater then you are already! Cal
Thanks so much. The awards were only on communtiy theatre level but when the play sold out all shows and got a standing ovation at each performance, I knew I had something special.
Oh, if you have a chance, try to get into Toronto and take some Sears & Switzer Workshops. They are amazing and have weekend workshops. Just google Sears and Switzer and you'll find them.
I did one of their acting workshops and all I can say is wow! They have lessonas for stage and screen.
Good but if the opportunity comes to take classes/workshop, do it. I've taken many classes/ workshops and I never failed to learn something I can to use when acting or directing. A play I directed in April won 9 of 12 awards at the end of season awards. If I hadn't taken those classes and workshops that would not have been the case. I view acting talent like having musical ability. You have to constantly practice to 'hone' your talent and stay sharp. To me having the 'tools' is essential.
@WinningDirector oh i completely agree. I'm not trying to be cocky or anything, I mean always getting advice from people or learning more is always good, you can never get too much. I mean there's always gotta be something unique about someone that they can teach you, so im always up to listen.. I do practice a lot, like working out.. its something i do that helps me get better each day. BTW thats amazing to win all those awards, even just one is an accomplishment in itself!
@WinningDirector well i guess sort of.. i took a couple acting classes in high school.. one in grade 9 more of an intro, many people took it.. and in grade 11 because i needed another open course, but i never took it for any real learning strategy.. i was told all it can do is give you tools, that as far as acting goes you either basically have it or don't, anyways.. i study a lot of actors and tv shows, and maybe i just HAVE IT.. lol i hope so.
@actboy2395 thanks man. I wanted to do something original with this character i hoped to get a lot of compliments and thats what i got.. the only difference between this video and the rest of mine.. i promised myself no more half assed worked and only the best!
I had to give you your first like and first comment even though I responded on hollywoodnextstar also. Dam good acting! That was A list quality not bullshitting I know good acting and that was it. You are ready for the big screen my friend.
A bit creepy. But I believe that was the attempted affect. I shale save this for later.
