All in all a good review. One point of clarification, the cutting edge is CPM D2, not D2 Tool Steel. CPM is Crucible Powdered Metallurgy, not Compressed as someone else described. CPM provides much finer carbides in solution, and produces far superior results in both sharpening ability and edge retention compared to standard D2 Tool Steel.
i really dont see why people are afraid of locks failing on knives. Why do you all think the manufacturer is stupid? they test their product before it goes on the market!! They wouldnt screw up that badly, if the liner looks thin, its because they wanted toreduce wieght or somehting. jesus christ
Good review on the 1660cb. I own a 1660cb that was very sharp from the factory. If you want to make it crazy sharp you need to either get 5 years of apprenticeship to a blacksmith or get the DMT Diafold sharpening system. This will not get you to the sharp you want, but combine this with the Lanskey system (aluminum jig) and you will have an unbeatable sharpening system. Throw away the plastic jig and use the aluminium one from the lansky folks. The combo is unbeatable!
hey thanks for making this vid! yeah I wasn't trying to attack you I just had a few questions. thanks again this was rally helpful I can't wait to get one of these!
Chrispy, your videos and reviews are candid and informative. I'd love to see a review for the Cold Steel Recon 1 tactical folder and would like to hear your opinions on it. Keep up the reviews!
I picked up the Kershaw LEEK 1660 X the whole blade is 13C26 stainless-steel so it does cost a bit more but I like the look and I would recomend it to anyone that wants a good pocket knife.. It's very soild. I would say any of the Kershaw 1660's are good but I know the full 13C26 steal blade is worth the extra few bucks.. I also like the LEEK 1660X due to the plane blade. I am really not in to knives to much but if you need a good pocket knife at good cost then I would go for the LEEK.
what's funny is i wasn't too sure what you had meant about how if D2 takes a crappy edge, then it'll hold it forever...well, sadly i now know...but im really happy with my benchmade :)
d2 is real easy to sharpen with a diamond hone
although if freehand aint your bread n butter use the spyderco sharpening system works every time
great reviews :D

chris a big problem i have with some knives is how stable the lock is. i mean by this if the blade wiggles when locked? does the blade wiggle?

I believe Kershaw offers a service to sharpen their knives, if you want to get an edge back on that Shallot
And the composite blade isn't welded, if I recall, it's formed from "Compressed Powder Metal"
