  • I photographed Lou in Canada in 1977. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • I cna remember my mother playing The maistro's live album all the time when I was a young kid, along with just about every other arist at the time...I found online Mr Rawls anthology album, and have been swept away and back to those days...Get this Anthology album, a bottle of Good wine, headphones and a good player...Give yourself 2-3 hours of alone time and dim lights..and I guarante you will emerge in love, inspired, and ready to tackle the world....This man is needed today ...

  • The catalogue that is Lou Rawls, from his Blue Note years and prior, surpass what is on offer here, and sadly like all greats, the decline is hastened when ballads are turned into bossa novas. My father and I dined at his Hancock Park estate residence in 1997 as his friends from New Zealand, and the warmth and loved shared by this gentle man is sadly missed. To my buddy Lou Rawls R.I.P

  • My family loved this man! Just a great performer!

  • That was fucking awesome!

  • grearest song stylist/singer ever.when you`ve heard Lou it don`t get no better!

  • this sounds so cheese... damn, this is so wrong in many ways. sad. anyway, its way better than the robbie williams bullshit.

  • Smooth! Like the fine vintage wine in the song, is what Lou's voice was.

  • Lou good , but i let Frank take this one

  • RICKY MINER SEEMS 2 BE A VERY GOOD & POPULAR MUSICAL DIRECTOR!!! R. I. P. MASRER LOU RAWLS!!!! It was Indeed a very good year!!!

  • THIS IS AWESOME,I NEVER KNEW HE PASSED,I LOVED AS A KID YOU'LL NEVER FIND, HE WAS GREAT NO DOUBT!!!!!!

  • Lou, you're loved & DEEPLY MISSED! But your legacy will last until the end of time.

Wonderful spirit, a real humantarian and humble servant of God.

  • What a remarkable voice!

  • A very classy man. Very very classy. The way he acknowledges people in the song and at the end. Also the HORN SECTION ... you guys are 100% on point if no one has said that ... I have the LP of this song and these guys sound as crisp as the studio recording ...

  • Lou Rawls was one of those singers who could take any song and own it completely ...

  • he simply oozed cool and class, there will never be another lou rawls

    bravo

  • I love Frank, BUT I enjoy Lou Rawls' rendition of this song even more than Sinatra's. The faster pace works better, as does Lou's growly, deep voice. This live version is excellent, but I suggest fans seek out the original vinyl version from the '60s that really swings. Lou was one of the greats and is sorely missed. Thank you for posting this.

  • @ryecroft57

I concur! Frank's is great, but is so mournful. Lou's celebrates life. I call them "Frank and Lou"...like I know them! LOLOL.

  • Even though Lou has gone home to be with the Lord to "The Address" in the sky we have his legacy and his music. If Lou's children see this know that he was loved and he is missed.

  • good old stevie at 1:23... another legend

  • Love this song

  • one of the last curtains for a great singer or as for me:

    the greatest - lou rawls!

  • AWESOME rendition of Frank Sinatra's Perfect Song, "It Was A Very Good Year".

  • Simply the finest singer god has ever put breathe into!!

  • aaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • I Love this version as much as I Love Frank's!

  • This is an amazing rendition of the song. This is his very last nationally televised performance from September, 2006. Rest in peace, Lou; Yeah, buddy!
