  • what the manufactures do is a plating process. it is a nickel silicon carbide that is very hard. they do this to enhance heat transfer that a engine develops while running. that is why it is pistons need to be changed, the piston skirts wears not the bore. we diamond hone a cylinder to make sure bore is round and assist the rings to get a good seal . the process of plating uses an anode in side the bore with an electric charge to plate the cylinder bore. the plating is about .001-.022 thick

  • nice video, how is a cylinder plated? is it some sort of coating or is it like a cylinder thats pressed inside the cylinder?

  • @k0ent~ Both. They press-in a steel liner (cylinder sleeve), and then they coat that sleeve with a super-hard coating using the "electroplating" process. The coating is 10 times harder than the steel.

  • @k0ent never ever heard of a liner being plated. this cyl will be plated direct to aluminum no steel liner. i think you have been given misinformation.
