  • I must say, it's quite an honor to work with Patrick and see him daily while he trains at the NSCA. He's a very humble young man and never misses a day. That's how champions are harvested!

  • I don't like those who steal so clearly program from others. This is offensive. I miss Jeff Buttle.

  • who would dislike this video?! he's amazing!!!!!

  • poor quality :(

  • AMAZING. even way back in 2008 he was fantastic! he's sooo intense!

  • can't believe that he's at the same age with me :P

  • aw , :3

  • Let's go Patrick Chan!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, this program is so blatantly stolen from Stéphane Lambiel's 2006 LP it's ridiculous. Go check it out if you don't believe me. Way to be original, Patrick Chan.

  • just because its the same song doesnt mean the program is the same. the foot work is obviously very different. both of them excecuted their programs rlly differently.

  • @fionatheninja Are you kidding me? The step sequence is extremely similar, far too much for it to be a coincidence.

  • @fandomaddict Seriously?! its completely different!

  • @fionatheninja Actually, the first time I saw the step sequence here I thought: he obviously liked Lambiel's 4 seasons! There is clearly an... inspiration.

  • @fandomaddict i watched it and I see what you mean how they feel similar. i mean when you use the same music, there's only so many ways to interpret it, they used different cuts (i think i preferred lambiels, had more of the dynamic parts of the winter four seasons) but the ones that were the same were used for the same elements- step sequence, filler choreo etc. patrick's had better flow imo, lambiels better choreo at parts, both could have had better costumes :P

  • @fandomaddict Way to be!

  • I love to watch him skate, especially when he is really ON and comfortable. Love him skating to Viva la Vida.

  • And (though it is beautiful) his skating is not ideal from the point of view of the combination - the elements and the artistism.. Yagudin's "Winter" is.. And Chan is far from being a king.. not even a prince...

  • He was the 5th, sorry :) all the same to me... His place is at the back of the first 10...

  • My favourite skater,

with one of my favourite classical songs.

Patrick Chan is sooooo ama\ing :D

    i lovee him !

  • damn, he is REALLY hot!!!

  • this guy is still young, has plenty of time to win over the next few olympics

  • チャンの宇宙点はどこからくるのか by Olympic

  • wow, if only he skated like this tonight!! there's still hope for the 2014 olympics!!

  • how can he NOT get dizzy? :O What points did he receive for this? It's phenomenal. :)

  • Awesome long program from him; he so deserved the standing ovation here. I'm hoping he'll perform like this tonight because it's "genius". No offense. I don't care if Plushenko wins the gold; he probably deserves it. To me he decided to retire and his era is done. I think it's time for him to move on and his colossal ego to disappear. I thought Plushenko was the best then but now I just think that he's a douche.

  • ah... well it ended up that Russia got pushed out by the U.S... so.... but to be honest I thought Russia was better...oh well.

  • bastards .... again our sued, even though you yourself know that Plushenko skated much better

as may become an Olympic champion who does not know how to do 4th coat?

  • @jbentio Ehm, Plushenko has surely a great ego but let's talk about Chan... At least Plushenko had good reasons...

  • @Porporinablu Actually Chan lands quads now, so tell me something that Plushenko can do that Chan can't. Chan has artistry and his footwork is awesome.

  • @jbentio Plushenko has won everything, he has a consistency that maybe no other skater has had, and I'm not a fan of him so I talk about him from a free point of view. Chan is just a boy, what has he done yet? Nothing, a WC. A good WC, but let's talk about him in some years and see.

  • @Porporinablu Did you read my initial comment. You should and just argue against yourself, perhaps you will go somewhere.

  • @jbentio Listen, kid. 1) It's you that probably can't comprehemnd my answer, so try again, ask for help and let's see. 2) It's easy to be all aggressive and sarcastic (not very successful, anyway) on youtube even when others are polite to you, but I would like to se where is your bravery going when you have to show up your face... but you're probably just a teenager.

  • @Porporinablu Continue arguing by yourself since you feel like you are going somewhere with comments. Your presumptions about myself is wrong, I am a working professional, in fact, I am an MD.

  • Oops never mind... He didn't fall

He did get penalized for something else though

  • was still skating after music had finished, but he was lucky to get an 81 considering that there were some flawless performances that received pretty low scores.

  • chan never fell :)

  • @Raindropp11 I know =)

But he went overtime and had pts deducted ^^

  • he fell. in the long program that is... to be honest i don't think he did his program well in the olympics. He's perfectly capable of skating it much better, and has skated it better in the past.... pressure's too much I guess.... But yah, he definitely has time to grow and gain experience for the next few olympics

  • Are you watching? :) Beat that score Chan fans :) Should be fun :)

  • Are you guys watching? :) I guess we will soon find out if all those "transitions" will add up to beat all the quads :) May the best guy win (and my guess is - like China won last night, Russia will probably leave Canada in the dust... )

  • chan <3

  • He was in our school:)

  • excuse me people but he's 17 in this video

you can't expect more than what he can already do

  • @mintels Ummm.... Pleshenko did WAY BETTER when he was only 15.....

    Pleshy FTW tonight!!!!! Wooooooohhh

And jumps are more fun to watch than transitions. Chan should go to Ice Dancing.......

    Besides, Plushenko's footwork is amazing

  • LOVE your comment!!! Ice dancing :)

  • Hahaha thanks. But the ice dancing thing is true.... if Chan is so proud of his footwork and transitions, he should switch to ice dancing ^^

  • @2100549 Plushenko's footwork? really? Don't get me wrong, I like him, but he has no footwork at all! Oh, and the joke about switching to ice dance is so boring...

  • If he had quads, he would probably not do so many transitions. Personally, I can't care less about them. Nice to watch but any good skater can do it, if he train. Some choose to show they can, in a part of the program. At least, if this is still a sport, transitions can't be the metter. Otherwise we should give medals to coreographers not athletes. Finally, there are many ways to be artistic. If something gives emotions, then it's art. If Plushenko's got so many fans, he's artistic in his way

  • @bravantonella80 Uhm, you don't get a point here. A baseball player can have a lot of fans, a golf player can have a lot of fans, having fans isn't proof of being artistic: just some people like better the technical side of this sport, and some others prefer the artistic side.

  • OK, this is what I would like to know. In 2010 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships he got a total of 268.02 points. He does not have a quad. At the European championships this week Plushenko got 255.39 points. He has a quad+tripple combo + a bunch more tripples. Who is judging these BMO comps?? I mean - Patrick can dream for the same amount of points at the Olympics, but dude - not going to happen when all the guys who do quad combos show up.

  • plushenko sacrifices transitions for jumps, which means a loss of presentation marks

  • Are you watching? :)

  • Lol...I also go to E-B....

    Saw him in the library..:P

  • I got to Etienne Brule too does he still go there?

  • Yay Patrick! He beat Buttle!

  • yupp :D He was so AWESOME! You don't like Buttle?

  • @PatrickChanFanGirl

I don't find Buttle interesting at all. He doesn't have the warmth like Patrick.

Patrick is amazing not because he's ASIAN but he is consistent and full of talent. Canada's best bet for a men's singles medal.

  • Well, Buttle is a great skater, but I agree he doesn't have the warmth Patrick does. His footwork is also no where near as interesting and complicated as Patrick's. He IS asian, and he IS amazing.

  • @safehaven11 Warmth? Where?

  • Great speed and hight, and he is only gonna be 19 for the olympic season!! Hope he has a great olympic season!!

  • pffffffffft

  • @kathl85 Who did say that this is spam just because is a Chan groupie?

  • I want to see your quad:-)

  • patrickk!!!! my lover lol...miss u ..i know u luved my surprise visit today lol...

    RIika:)

  • Chantastic!! Love him!!

  • This dude goes to my school...

  • HOLY CRAP REALLY?! You are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lucky! I want to cry!

  • don't cry... just be jealous :P and he's a pretty cool guy in person

  • I want to go to that school soooooooooooooo badly but too bad my french stinks LOL. You are so lucky! Is Patrick famous? You get to talk to him?! I've been wanting to speak to him since forever!

  • lol this guy goes to my school Etienne Brule

  • He is an incredible skater. It's hard to see a skater so into the music and not simply showing jumps and spins

  • Wow, that was awesome. Can't wait to see him at the Olympics next year.

  • Yeah, I saw Patrick today after the '09 World Exhibition. He's so tiny in real life. I mean... well not tiny like a little kid but when I see him on TV or skating on the rink he looks BIGGER to me. But when I saw him up close today, he's sooo thin- I think he weighs less than me. (I'm not super thin but I'm not overweight either... just average.) But I'm surprised that he's so strong considering he's very thin. Wow! Love Patrick and he's really cool in person. Friendly but not overly friendly.

  • The Whole Time I Was Watching This I Was Just Like :O BTW Hes CUTE

  • Yeah right...he should not be in the same sentence as Yags or Plush.

  • Amazing! Ur gonna win a gold at the Olympics!!

  • patrick chan 미국월드에서 화이팅!!

  • I went to Gabrielle-Roy with Patrick. Good work bud! Continue ca on t'encourage tous!

  • You mean, Sasha the Queen of choking?

  • and this guy is my friends cousin?

i had no idea o.o thats amazin

  • omg, he's so incredible. He makes it look effortless.

  • I think we can expect to see some exciting thing from him at Vancouver in 2010. From the time I first saw him skate in 2001 I knew this kiddo was someone to keep an eye on.

  • What an incredible skate. THe flow and continuity through his skating is unreal, onoy Jeff Buttle even comes close. Pretty amazing the two of them have the best skating between the jumps of anyone in the world today.

  • Beautiful skate, but the camera work is awful too much bouncing around. But Patrick was amazing.

  • I saw Patrick's performance on TV the other day and is very impressed by what he can do. Amazing figure skater! I think Canada might have just found its new budding young superstar joining the likes of Jeffrey Buttle, Emmanuel Sandhu, etc.

  • When someone is as talented as Patrick, you are going to deny him of the success and recognition that he deserves in a country where he was born becuz of his skin colour? You're the close-minded, racist, ugly man in this country that no one wants.

  • You're going to be in a rude awakening when you visit the metropolitan cities in Canada where you will be surrounded by many people who look different and think differently from you. Don't kid yourself when you think that most people feel the same way. When Canada prides itself for being multicultura; the US has their 1st African Am president, and we still have many assholes like you. How sad.

  • Chill, canadiad coward. Canadians are dying in Afganistan for US, lol, Mongolians troops are fighiting in the front lines in Afganistan, but we don't flee to canada like other ppl do. Take your RACIST comments to somewhere else.

  • this is an incredible performance. It's what skating is all about. Who cares about nationality? We are watching skating here!!!!

  • Canada started out with immigrants from Europe (mainly England, France, and Spain). A "real Canadian" would have to be the aboriginal people. Go study your Canadian history before you embarrass yourself by commenting ignorantly.

  • You agreed with my definition, which means Joanie Rochette isn't a "real Canadian" either. You're just jealous because you can't be as good as Patrick Chan, but you don't have to generalize to the whole Asian population. Every country (including Canada, China, Japan) has talented people and bums, and everyone in between. You can't judge a whole nation by one person.

  • To a paleface pig "ycanada":

If my Inuit born son becomes a champion of Canada, his HOMELAND, where would you send us, to HELL? You are the one who must go there. Calling us savages? Why did not you stay in your "civilised Europe", which killed in the name of Christ? No one wanted you here. We would have been fine enough with all the mineral resources our land has.

  • If most people 'Feel the same way', as you think.. there wouldn't be a standing ovation at the end of his performance.. would it?

It's funny how you say that you have nothing against Asians, but everything you said was derogatory.

It's not because some guy decided to plant a FREAKING flag in the ground that the land belongs to his country.

Anyways. I am not here to convince a racist bastard. Get out of my country. You embarass me.

  • You're officially the biggest retard in Canada

  • WOW! And you took the time to watch the video and comment. Deep down I know you ARE his biggest fan... ;)

  • Immigration is instigated by your own government, promoting it through different immigration programs on both federal and provincial levels. Canada needs labourers, admit it. Countries that do not want immigrants establish a system that does not allow them in.

  • Who're you to say that about this Patrick? He was born in the same place I was, Toronto. He's been working for years to bring gold medals to Canada. I know Patrick, he doesn't even speak with an accent. He's a regular guy. I just had Christmas dinner with him and we played Rock Band afterwards. He's an increadible man. You're the one who's the least Canadian out of the two. Canada is founded on it's acceptance and diversity. If anyone is "Fucking up this country.." It's you and your intolerance.

  • Damn, look at that sexy beast go.

  • very good!

  • great !!

  • wow hes sickkk

  • it's just absolutely amazing how much he has improved all these years. I remember when he was just doing his doubles. and now he's like famous...

lol I've known him since i was like 6. so like 8 years now. he skates at my club

  • wow that triple axel triple flip and triple toe were perfect im an ice skater and my gosh its a dangerous sport

  • WOW! Amazing

  • Patrick:

Looking fantastic. Great job. From your friends at RDV - Maitland, FL. We miss you.

  • seriously i heard somebody saying there's something in canada's water that makes canadian skaters have some insane footworks and edges..... i think that person was right. btw, chan is really artistic and great spins, jumps and sweet speed across the ice!

  • GO PATRICK!

  • LIVESTRONG? really?

  • I was there! What a performance...the entire stadium was on their feet before he even finished his program.

  • he goes to my school, etienne brule

  • Wonderful flow. Nice to see just smooth edges. Check out that footwork, not rough at all. Good to see!

  • Wow. He's tremendous.

  • I never heard of Patrick Chan until I saw this performance on TV earlier when I watch the Canadian Nationals, I said who is this guy he is amazing and definitely Jeff Buttle has his work cut out for him to beat this guy. Patrick is definitely the future of Canadian skating and at 17 he can only get better.

  • His jump positions, spins, speed and MUSICALITY is AMAZING for his age. HE is sure to be a force to be reckoned with on the world stage, and surely in 2010.

  • Yay Patrick Chan!

I actually skated ticket ice with him a couple of years ago and from then to now I can see that he has improved significantly!

    Great Job :)

  • what's ticket ice? hehe

  • one word: godly.

  • One of the strongest Long Programs I have ever seen...and I have been watching skating for 25 years...the flow, the speed, the purity of position and technique on the jumps....it was magnificent..and skated so within the Four Seasons....IMHO, the best LP I have seen this year. Thank You Patrick Chan...can't wait to see next years program...it'll be superb I bet

  • He's only 17!

  • yeah, it's crazy.

  • omg i was at canadians and he was like the only one that had a clean solo and he said that at about the last 30 seconds he couldnt here his music at all!!!!! of coarse he cam 1st!!!!!

  • YAH PATRICK - GO GRANITE CLUB

  • Patrick Chan's performance rivals Stephan Lambiel's "Vivaldi's Four Seasons" performance. Yeah, I said it. I went there.

  • I like Lambiel, but I would go as far as saying this surpasses it at least performance wise...

  • YEAH!! He goes to my school!!! Brrrrraap

  • He goes to my school :P. We were good friends long time ago.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Wow! Patrick skate SOOO~~ GOOD! New star was born!

  • AMAZING performance. Of all the skating programs to Vivaldi, I really think his is the best. However, shouldn't he be concerned that some of the top WOMEN have more jump difficulty in their programs? I would hate to see a talented skater finish out of the top five at worlds simply because he doesn't have a second triple axel.

  • Yeah I know, Mao has one 3A AND two 3-3 combos. LOL But hey, he's only seventeen! Just got out of junior circuit last year! It's not like he's already at his peak. He knows very well that he's got no chance against other top skaters with a second 3A and, hopefully, a quad - I'm sure he's gonna work hard to improve his program. Let's just let him grow and be prepared to be surprised in LA Worlds and Vancouver Olys.

  • Hey man. He's only 17. He's a kid!

  • Well, at 16, Plushenko was able to land a triple axel, and even a girl land two triple axels in a program so no excuses! Chan can do it to if they could do it! So a second triple axel and a quadruple jump are exactly what he needs to become a world champion. Nevertherless, his program was flawless!

  • Technicaly, patrick was also able to land triple axel when he was 16. He just turned 17 on new year's eve and he didn't miss one axel during the grand prix competition from last oct till dec.

I don't think one can compare the age of men and women in figure skating together. Girls mature earlier and peak earlier. Yuna Kim and Caroline Zhang both master all the triples when they were 12 or 13. Most top men can only achieve that at 15 or 16; some men don't even have consistent 3A in their 20s!

  • Actually, Evgeny Plushenko was doing quads by age 16. He even started doing a 4-3-2 by age 17. Alexei Yagudin was also consistent with quads by 17 and soon after did it in combination. Of course, these two were considered prodigies and learned under a brilliant technical coach. I believe neither of them had any problems with the triple axel after 14 or 15.

  • Plushenko and Yagudin are considered exceptional and prodigies who learned to jump under Mishin. Not only did they have triple axels by age 15, they were doing them in combination. They had quads by 16. They were jumping machines but neither of them were as naturally artistic as Chan at that age.

  • Best. Edges. Ever. OMFG.

  • I prefer Oda's edges...

  • Well, I'm sorry then.

  • Do you think anyone has run in to the side boards?

  • Chen Lu, 1994 olympics. When she did a double after a triple (in combination) her hand even hit the camera.

  • Midori Ito fell into the camera pit at the 1991 world championships.

  • One of the girls in novice or juniors at USA nationals just did today, actually, pretty badly. She did a 3-2 right into them.

  • He did a fabulus job!!

  • what a performance!!!!!!!!!!wish he will win the olympic title

  • I was very impressed as I was watching his performance. Watch for this young man at the upcomimg World Figure Skating Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, and perhaps the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouever!

  • Patrick was amazing! I had tears in my eyes too. Congratulations to him!

  • He looked marvelous!

  • crazy performance!!

  • Patrick....omg i had tears in my eyes during that last SLSS. The performance was simply sublime!

  • Wow, I'm proud of him.

  • That was AWESOME. The choreography was BRILLIANT. I remember seeing this kid at the Juvenile level and it's truly astounding how fast he's risen. Great things in his future. :)

  • holy crap this guys good

he just did amazing on his short too

  • Thanks so much for putting this on youtube so us fans in the USA can also enjoy Patrick's brilliant performance!

  • OMG. What a wonderful performance-especially his final step sequences and spins!! Whenever I see him, he becomes better and better!!!! Too bad it was a national game and only Canadians had the oppotunity to watch this on TV. I really want to see this with bigger screen.

  • The program was absolutely flawless! Im glad theres some new talent because Buttle cant do the quad and theres no way he can compete with Takahashi, Joubert, and Lambiel. At least Patrick will have a chance for a medal at worlds.
