This is not true. Character's exp points are not shown, but leveling up is not 'luck based' at all.

You get exp poins just line in many other rpg games.

@LcTricker From what I know, the ancients were a race before the humans on the planet. They could actually talk to the planet/hear it. Aerith is the last one (she's actually half ancient). The crazy scientists thought that JENOVA was an ancient, but she's actually a monster that fell from space. She is responsible for the death of the ancients (species as a whole). The ancients managed to seal her away, but the scientists uncovered her.

Personally, I equipped power wrists and the thunder armlet to block his uber thunder attack completely. Of course, keep dodging and thwacking for crits. Barrier is a necesity...at least for hard mode.

The strategy is fusing materia and leveling up doing missions.

As for me I've never needed any guide for so simple game. I upload videos to show the beauty of the game and quality of story and gameplay.
