Well, the most likely answers to that question are 1. Weaver is getting too old to play a younger version of her own character in the prequel, and 2. Ripley and the entire crew (aside from Bishop, likely) did not have a clue as to what the alien was in the first movie, so not one of them (aside from Bishop) could have encountered one before that. So either they'd have to make a movie without the alien, or without Ripley. Anyway, here's hoping it'll be good.
