I think she was afraid that if she went too far, she wouldn't see her home again. She used to run to the door and cry to be let back in if we closed it while she was outside.

@Nightbarb At some places where people live.. for example by a really busy road or other big cities, you may not want your cat to run around free due to the risk of getting hit by a car. And in some places you're not even allowed to let your cat run free. Having an indoor cat isnt mean, if the cat is always inside, then he doesnt know about the outside world, or if you take your cat outside with a leash on a regular basis. But then again, some cats just doenst like beeing outside :P

I live in AZ where there are a lot of coyotes, so cats do not last long outside. So my cats have an outdoor enclosure that they access through a cat door off of a sliding glass door. This way they can be outside and still be safe. If I take them outside of the enclosure, then they are always supervised. Great job for letting Maru have an outdoor area to hang out in. I'm sure he will be all the more happy, if he can get any happier!
