  • Wow, it's so weird seeing these celebrities who are really old now, on these shows that aired decades before I was born.

  • I see dead people....sorry just couldn't resist.

  • Love AL on murder she wrote

  • What a treat seeing AL in this clip. She's always been so regal and refined. And what a career she's had -- I agree with previous posters. By not nabbing an Oscar both she and Hollywood was robbed!

  • Is it me or does John Daly looked exceptionally tired, spent, beat and run-down? To watch and enjoy all these old shows is very surrealistic knowing no one is alive now. Kinda eerie. But thanks for sharing!

  • We think of her in this role now, but at the time you could not picture anyone but Rosalyn Russell doing the role.

  • 3:58 -- Angela won Tony Awards of course, and I think some Emmys, but she did not win an Oscar, which seems inconceivable considering that she got her nominations for Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Manchurian Candidate. In all 3 years, the Academy could have done far worse not to award best supporting actress to her.

  • @soulierinvestments I SO agree with you !! She should have won for The Manchurian Candidate but as you know the Oscar Academy has made soo many Blunders , the worst of which was not awarding the Oscar to Judy Garland in A Star Is Born !! But I simply ADORE Angela Lansbury ...what a Treasure !! xo

  • Spierdalać od Mławy

  • sad that jerry wasn't able to do the telethon this year. another end to an era.

  • I love Dame Angela's teenage attitude

  • I love it at 1:40 when she laughs like this.I love her !

  • Dame Angela treated the piece of chalk like a basketball LOL

  • OH MY GOD! It's Paul McCartney!!! :)

  • @StrangeUnicorn1 OMG I know

  • I loved guessing who was who on what's my line, and I love Angela, but my Mom now she adored Angela..

    thank you for sharing, Donyel...

    great flashback !!

  • LOL after Dame Angela signed her name what did she do with the chalk after did she slam it or threw it ?

  • Do we have a picture of Paul McCartney? LOL

  • Angela Lansbury is a sista like Paul McCartney is a brotha

  • she is a US citizen, hence no `Dame `

  • I loved her in Murder She Wrote, Anastasia and Beauty and the Beast <3 She is so talented xoxo

  • @coolsweetgroovy oh I know I ask because if you said yes I would write so we have a picture of Paul mcartney

  • @PinkCowgirl925 LOL :)

  • Sorry to disillusion you DorisDay,but this is NOT Angela's real voice! LOL

I have met Angela on several occasions and so I know what her REAL voice sounds like.

BTW she is NOT a Dame, but she should be.

  • Still hard to believe Dame Angela is British she seemd to me more like from the Southern US

  • Love Dame Angela's handwriting

  • Love Dame Angela Lansbury grew up with Murder She Wrote she's cool P.S. Any one notice she lookslike Paul McCartney?

  • @coolsweetgroovy do u watch craig fergurson?

  • @PinkCowgirl925 Yes I do, but it's been a long running joke since forever Craig Ferguson made the joke famous

  • She sounds like Betty Rubble!

  • Do you think there is ever a real chance they'll what they can of this show on DVD?

  • Bennet is so rude and abrasive. I hate the way him come across here. Isn't it amazing over 40 years later and Angela Lansbury is still relevant and working. And she was veteran at this time since Gaslight was in the 40's. Talk about a long and successful career.

  • Although Lansbury is most famous for her role in "Murder She Wrote," her greatest role came from the dark, sinister masterpiece thriller "The Manchurian Candidate" where she was the most vicious villain, Mrs. Iselin, of all time. She should have taken home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress Award for that role in 1962 (she was nominated). Gaslight is good film, mainly because of her and Ingrid Bergman.

  • 1:10-1:17 elmer fudd?

  • I love this woman!

  • I want the complete 'What's My Line?' on DVD!!!

  • Angela looks adorable. I had the same DO in high school lol! Oddly enuf I went to high school in the the late 1970's! Ah the midwest is always a BIT behind the times!

  • what year?

  • Pia Lindstrom must look just like her father. She sure doesn't look like Ingrid (to me at least).

  • @Nobeester I can see it in her smile and in her eyes. Isabella Rossellini, however, is like a carbon copy. It's eery how much she looks like her mother.

  • @showersinger547 Actually Isabella Rossellini isnt Angela's daughter. She is Ingrid Bergmans daughter but hollywood had so many similar beauties its understandable..

  • @stematfisnyc I didn't mean that Angela Lansbury was Isabella Rossellini's mother, I was just commenting on how much she looked like Ingrid Bergman. Sorry, I worded that last comment weirdly. :D

  • @stematfisnyc Crap, and I worded that one oddly, too! I meant that Isabella Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman are identical. xb sorry.

  • @showersinger547 I'm the one who realized the mistake was my own when i watched the video. i posted the comment before seeing the video. Human error can be quite funny sometimes.

  • Arlene knew it was Angela before the other lady said it!

  • love that voice!

  • I IDOLIZE HERE !!!! From Gas Light in 1944 until now she is a true Queen.

  • Pure class. That's all I have to say....pure talented class.

  • This is maybe my favorite WML clip. Angela Lansbury is so charming, as are everyone else there. Her voice is hilarious. And what a bonus to hear her singing a line from the song "Mame."

  • I knew Pia would get it. After all her mother and Angela became friends over the years before Ingrid Bergman died.

  • I hate how that guy on the panel barks at Angela to sing "THE song!" He wasn't clear about which song... since the title song is never sung in the show by Angela Lansbury.

  • @omgomg53 there's lots of bad communication in this show, people keep interrupting each ther and talking in euphemisms.

  • I had the distinct impression watching this that Bennett and Arlene both knew who it was before questioning even began. You only need to watch a few episodes of WML before it becomes obvious that the panelists are huge Broadway musical fans. They always seemed to know who the big musical stars are even before the game begins.

  • Mr. Daly was really giving Mr. Cerf a hard time. LOL!

  • I love the voice she's using! Haha! Angela is so great...love her! :)

  • @DorisDayFanatic That's actually I believe Dame Angela's real voice

  • Right you are jimmysudar--that great Angela voice while baking Mrs. Lovett's pies in "Sweeney Todd"! She has aged wonderfully has she not?

I wonder if the beautiful Pia Lindstrom--later a face on N.Y. City news programs--had a difficult relationship witrh her mother. (Ingrid Bergman) She didn't seem to like Angela's comment of seeing her as a child during the filming of "Gaslight".

  • I didn't get that feeling.

  • Pia apparently had at least something of a contentious relationship with Ingrid - as the daughter of Ingrid's first marriage, she was caught in the maelstrom of Bergman's scandalous affair with Roberto Rosselini. Ingrid became pregnant with Rosselini's child, Pia's father sued for desertion, and the resulting brouhaha led to not only Ingrid's blacklisting from Hollywood for nearly a decade, but also her separation from Pia for several years (Papa Lindstrom had custody).

  • love watching these

  • 8 shows a week for two years, will tire you out. But she looks so glamorous. Like an older Twiggy.

  • she looks tired

  • she's using that wonderful mrs. lovett voice.

  • Yay - first time I've seen Angela on WM!

  • Great minds think alike! When I saw that Ingrid's daughter was on the panel and the guest was Angela, I immediately thought of Angela's scene stealing in Gaslight (considering the rest of the cast).

  • Pia Lindstrom was as gorgeous as her mother....

  • Hurrah! Thank you, EDH1712!

  • Our long national nightmare of no new What's My Line videos is over. :-) Thank you!

  • 3:50 Reference to Academy Award nominations 3 of them -- Cukor's "Gaslight" 1944, Lewin's "Picture of Dorian Gray" 1945 and Frankenheimer's "Manchurian Candidate" 1962. She would have deserved to win any or all of them, especially that dragon of a performance she gave in "Manchurian Candidate." I still giggle to think of the way she told her sleeper-assassin son, "Honestly, you look like your head is about to grow into a point." As I recall, it eventually did.

  • There is Arlene in that mask she wore for Truman Capote's legendary black and white ball. She also wore it the night Steve McQueen appeared as a mystery guest.

The darkish quality of the videotape results because it is a kinescope of a 1966 color broadcast. Thank heavens Goodson - Todman preserved the kinescopes, but I wish they would have had the foresight to save the color videotapes. The gowns tonight look particularly smashing.

  • Oh this was great! :D Angela is fabulous! And so much fun seeing Pia :D I've wanted to see that ever since you told me about it! And they all look gorgeous :D

  • I am soooo happy this has been posted, i have always wanted to watch this as i am a HUGE Angela Lansbury fan. Thank you so much!

  • Thank you so much! I am a big fan of Angela Lansbury but I had no idea she was on the show!

  • Oooh I have never seen Angela Lansbury on WML? before - thank you so much!!!

  • Thank you for posting!! I'm so thrilled you posted this!! Angela Lansbury is gorgeous here... come to think of it so is Arlene and Pia :) Thanks again!
