good kick :) well done.. but a kick like that is not to hard to avoid. your opponent should bea realy lost to get hit by a kick like that.. i would not recomand using that unless you are fighting a complete noob
@spartankk becuase in martial arts, you have to let air out so you dont gas or pass out. also, it gives you a bit more power. we also yell very loud in martial arts to give us more power and when we yell, our muscles tense up so the damage we take from hits is reduced and less painfull
his looking at it from periferal vision u dont need to turn ur head that much, wen ur doing a jumping spinning bak kick if u turn ur head to much the kick might not turn out properly
@flyingaj1 yea he got the kick down but maybe this was just one bad example and doesnt kick like that but really if u train right and quick you actually look directly at the target before the kick comes through..i dont get what kind of trainer tells there students to go based off of periferal..plus ur always never supposed to take ur eye off ur target so thats one crummy trainer..
look of peek at the opponent over your shoulders. ITS A MUST and the turning of the head is instant it should really happen within a second and its almost not visible turn of the head is short but SO that is why u gotta peek quick WHY? ITS CUZ you know for sure where your HEEL is going. TRUST ME.
this is more usually used as a counter...you usually dont attack with a hook kick or back kick thats just silly..this is used all the time in WTF matches a lot and when used as a counter, it connects and they do fly
really bad kick, you leave back totally free to counter-attack ! (pause at 0:58, you'll know what i mean) you are totally out of balance and you can't see what your opponent is gonna do next ..
(sorry for my bad english :D greetz from a belgian Karateka ;)
he never looks when he has his back to his oponant, nor when he launches the kick at them...in a real fight, cage or street, this will fuck you royalie
THAT GYM LOOKS AWESOMEEE.....I wish they had gym's like that neat mine...The ones I went to.....(Taekwando) .......they were throwing some kicks in a basketball court T_T...they also did not have ANY equipments. T_T
it's the same kick. In korea they don't differentiate between spinning side and spinning back. In america spinning side is frowned upon because it means you over rotated and left yourself open. But, in the korean language the kick is the same name regardless of how much you rotate.
looks great but it would be too easy to slip (bob and/or weave past the kick); wouldn't it be safer to shoot it into the gut? and mebe follow with some round kicks/ hook punches to the head while the opponent is bent over from the gutshot.
You mean street fight right? In a street fight you wouldn't chance a high kick, but olympic tkd is all about dynamic high kicks. It sounds like you're worried about street fighting when this is a sport based on technique. What's your goal? Tkd or mma?
that's not olympic tkd. If you want to throw hook punches try boxing. If you want to work on shoot fighting try wrestling. This is tkd and it's based on the most efficient kicking technique.
What the fuck? Tkd has very efficient kicking techniques but who says you can't combine them with boxing, wrestling, and anything else (like footwork from fencing)?
you're looking for a different sport if you're interested in throwing hook punches. You can do multiple arts but hook punhces don't score points in tkd soooooooo maybe try boxing.
the most effective fighting arts are the ones that are sports so you can realistically practice your techniques on a resisting person. What kind of real combat do you do that doesn't have a sport to practice?
Thats not true. The most effective fighting arts are ones made specifically for combat and aren't hindered by rules. If you train in Brazillian Ju-jitsu and it works well in the ring, that doesn't mean you won't get your face stomped while holding sombody in an armbar. My style is my style. I guess you could call it Jeet Kune Do but I don't really think of it like that.
I completely disagree. I would have guessed that you did some form of jkd. Where do you think bruce lee got his techniques from? It's no secret that by the end of his life he pulled a very large amount from muay thai. I believe he even said that it was the best all around form of stand up because it dealt with all ranges. I would bet my money on a pro boxer over a crazy street fighter. Boxing has rules, but it is based on fighting a real person.
Not true. A ring sport has advantages and disadvantages. However, fighting a real person teaches things that can never be learned otherwise. An example is looking at very traditional martial arts that grab punches or punch through armour to stop swordsmen. Combat has changed and we've found that traditional arts have very little value against a fighter who actually fights and has trained his body to take blows. You can take advantage of ring rules, but the foundation is real fighting.
where do you practice eye raking? While jkd practices flow of water and deadly groin strikes boxers are busting their asses in the gym hitting real people and getting hit by real people. Think of it this way, if jkd had any magic moves to out strike an opponenet don't you think boxers would be the first to use it? If it works, you'll see it in the ring.
No magic, just efficiency. Groin kicks and eye rakes CAN be practiced safely and with a high degree of realism as long as you use the proper equipment and stay focused. Have you ever heard of the Straight Lead? Thats not a move most boxers would know of, but it is a hell fo alot more useful than the jab. It is the cornerstone of JKD.
So, you are telling me boxers purposely don't use the most efficient techniques? Are you kidding? They will use whatever works best. OH, and who says these jkd techniques work better? You and the rest of the non fighters? I respect the real fighters opinion much more and if the technique works they will use it.
Don't get me wrong, boxing is very effective in a controlled environment with rules on what you and your opponent can do. Kicking to the groin, for instance, is VERY effective but not allowed in the ring, and so you don't train to do it, or to defend against it. I could go on, finger jabs to the eyes, straight kicks to the kneecaps ect. but you get the picture.
atleast we're on the same page now. I can see your point. I don't agree but your opinion is noted. I have found in my experience that the benefit of practicing those moves has very little benefit. What one should be training in is strength, power, head movement. These moves will win out over a deadly fighter who is fat and untrained. Btw, asian kickboxing allows kicks anywhere, and they do try to hit the knees. It very rarely works. Kicks to the thigh is a safer option with less risk.
Ever see Bruce Lee, or Tommy Caruthers? Do they look fat? By the way, Bruce did indeed think very highly of boxing but beleived that it only needed a modification of the footwork to make it easier to defend the whole body and to facilitate faster kicks. He also integrated Wing Chun punches (not powerful but very fast and ferocious) to set up a right cross.
bruce lee was a movie star! That's why he was in great shape. my comment on fatness is based on people who train theory but don't train their bodies. His compliments were to thai boxing, which is not the same sport as western boxing. Thai boxing (muay thai) does use arms and legs to defend the entire body, so I'm not sure if maybe something was lost in his translation. Once again, if wing chun punches were more effective boxers would use it. Don't you think boxers want to win?
Bruce was first and foremost a martial artist rather than an actor. He firmly believed in keeping the weapon a strong as the mind that controls it. Anyone who "trains theory" but neglects to train their body isn't worth much anyway. Bruce never makes any mentin of Muay Thai that I know of. He did, however box and fence quite a bit in his early years. As for "winning", Wing Chun straight blasts are designed to create openings for nastier (and illegal) techniques.
okay, but if the wing chun "straight blasts" created openings for other techniques (legal or illegal) wouldn't other contact sports use it? If it created a better opportunity to land a straight right, why wouldn't all the sports use it exclusively? I would put more faith in the fighters than the theorists. Do you believe that Lee was a fighter? I hear a lot of crap about underground records but none of it has been proven. I think he was a martial artist but never a real fighter.
Same reason some martial artists do katas. The've been taught that their way is the only right way. And as for Bruce's real abilities, you bet your ass he was a real fighter!
Katas do have some value with meditation and psycho-cybernetics (practicing a move in your head over and over so you already have practice when you do it for real). Wai kru is the dance thai boxers use to warm up, visualize, and pay respect to their teacher. Technically, it's a kata. Why do you care so much about Bruce Lee? You could follow tons of real fighters from thailand or from japan, or american boxers or even chuck norris. Why do you follow Bruce Lee? He's not a competetive fighter
psycho cybernetics is very valuable for athletes. Do some research on sports phsycology and you will find that it is used by everyone from cyclist to rock climbers to football players. It is a very valid form of relaxation and visualizing victory. As for Bruce not worring about competition.....that sounds like a cop out to me. How great is ali if he just talked about being the best? Or if wayne gretzky said he could score but chose not to? You have to train and compete under pressure.
Bruce didn't talk. In his early years he was a brawler. He knew what worked in a fight and what didn't. He WAS the best. He never really needed to talk about it.
once again that's a cop out. He didn't have to prove he was the best. Are you kidding? Yes, he does have to prove he is the best. He was not a fighter, that is all I have to say about Bruce Lee.
Not true, I've researched his theory. That's how I knew that he complimented muay thai as the best stand up for all ranges. It just seems to always come down to this argument. I don't think he's a real fighter and I think we've learned a lot more in the last 10 years from mma. Yet, we still have this argument about Lee. I think greater people are out there now. I would put Fedor or Randy ahead in what they've learned to apply in real fight scenarios.
I did tkd and boxing and now about 1,5 hour a day Muay Thai Boxing and my humble opinion is that when you enter the ring you have to be a great Boxer! maybe not MMA, didn't Gracie jiu jitsu was undefeated in MMA?I also think that Muay Thai is GREAT in defense And are dutch fighters rule K1 and the dutch trainings are one of the best in the world we have many champions in K1 and all fighters are skilled in boxing. must say something! Peace, Dutch Pete

"cybernetics"?? Bullshit. Bruce didn't concern hemself AT ALL with competition. THATS why I hold him in such high regard.
guiltybystander77 3 years ago
psycho cybernetics is very valuable for athletes. Do some research on sports phsycology and you will find that it is used by everyone from cyclist to rock climbers to football players. It is a very valid form of relaxation and visualizing victory. As for Bruce not worring about competition.....that sounds like a cop out to me.
