you only hear the difference when you are NOT shooting in 1st person all the time or standing next to an explosion/stationary AA gun... the difference is in the dynamic range. in war tapes everything seems to be loud. in HiFi there is also some quiet.
through my 5.1 digital Sony surround amp the war tapes setting to me sounds much better to me, if I put it on Hi-FI or home theater there are plenty of sounds that are too quite and/or get drowned out by the more aggressive sounds, its a good option as it means I did not have to fiddle around with my set up for the game then have to reset it again for my music etc..
War tapes has a lower dynamic range meaning that everything from your tank blowing up to the wind blowing is pretty loud. Hi Fi is more of a dynamic range and certain things are quieter whereas others are not. Its much easier to pinpoint things in HiFi whereas in war tapes its a lot more action packed. Thumbs up so people can see.
Funny watching enemies run away from me because there boots don't make footstep sounds. This doesn't always happen but it does most of the time and it's a game breaker. To have a silent footsteps one should have to use crouch. Now there's no reason to use crouch in this game. Also crazy, is when I see someone break a window and jump through, but there is no sound of glass breaking. Sound is very buggy in this game.
I know this sounds like a bit of a ball breaker but could you test the proximity localisation of both? So test how a friends bullet or footsteps sound when near/far, I'm curious as to whether one detects proximity better than the other
home cinema with the stereo thing turned off is awesome through headphones. you can pinpoint exactly where someone is.

You do know you changed all the sound during recording to whatever you saved the file as, therefore they are all the same..?

If you have a good sound equipment go for War Tapes

comparing this on a youtube video is 100% pointless. the sound has to be heard through a surround system to really understand the difference.
