Animated by legend Jimmie, 'Shamus' Culhane, who as Shamus Culhane gives a series of interviews on here talking about his long career in animation.
Way too harsh for a kids cartoon, though I had to laugh at his 'other leg' growing at the end I wasn't too sure what had grown at first!! Now that would've been 'heaven' for them! ;)
i remember watching this when i was little and not understanding anything of it.. and as said already, this has very little to do with the original story :D
Ah, I like the Russian version (Olobyannui Soldatik) much better--especially the music; it's so sweet and tragic and much more appropriate for this sad little story.
WOW! They really wouldn't air this cartoon nowadays! I can't believe they showed the soldier and ballerina being shot into the fire and then melting together... I'm not sure what to say, I know the story but still... WOW!!! @_@
My grandad had this on a video with some other animations, and me, my brother and sister used to watch it all the time. It scared me half to death! Still does!
It looked really wrong when he grew his new leg in Toy Heaven.

Since when do toys hold court? Grr...makes me mad. If my toys did this and I found out about it, I'd have a barbque in my backyard.
freetobeme03 1 year ago
@freetobeme03 Just because your toys came to life, you'd eat them? It's not like they've suddenly become farm animals.

"The Brave Tin Soldier very closely follows the original story by Hans Christian Andersen."
Um, no it doesn't. Not at all actually.
Christianchic907 2 years ago 9
you right! though the adaptation is reallly funny
ariadneugene 2 years ago
:] That was way to sad for a cartoon...
Christianchic907 2 years ago
@Christianchic907 Well, the highlight of the ending is the Brave Tin Soldier got his other leg back! It was even the only WAY for this to happen.
Anyway, when the toy maker finished making the 'tin soldiers', why did one of them fall out of the box when they hadn't come to life yet?

This cartoon is my childhood trauma. I cried a river every time I watched it. And at the same time, I liked it. It's so delightfully tragic.

The Marx Brother in the jack-in-the-box is Harpo, not Groucho.

But Harpo didn't talk.
VGRetro 3 years ago
It doesn't matter, the likeness in the box is clearly Harpo, and looks nothing like Groucho.
FelixBrazil 3 years ago
They were both there, Groucho as the judge and Harpo was teasing the soldier (2:42)
