  • i just got the mxl 990/991 package. it doesnt have the stand or the screen type thing that goes over the microphone. the sound does not sound very clear. can you tell me why? if i need the other attatchments then it looks like it might be a while before i start recording.

  • hah that is the sikest video i have seen in a while that was wiked

  • The squeak of the mic stand was in the same key. You think of EVERYTHING! THANK YOU! sounds awesome!

  • Nice man I like it

  • When I heard the drums, I just went "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?" Didn't know one mic could get so much of the elements of a drum.

  • your right, im worng. your good, Im bad, your smart, im dumb, your good looking, im not...

  • hahaha i can dig this....lol!

  • i have a Boss RC-2 pedal, and am thinking about buying the 990/991 mic package, but do i need another mix deck for the 990 or can i just plug the 990 straight into the Boss RC-2 , and then plug the Boss straight into my amp??

  • @JORDOCARR Yeah you do need something to convert the XLR type cable from the microphone to the TRL type input that the RC-2 has. :( I'd recommend something like an M-Audio Audio buddy, or a small mixing consol!

  • I bought this same mic. The MXL 990 but it came with the shock mount, which I love. But I haven't used it yet due to the reason I haven't got a firebox for it yet...but from what I see & hear. This mic is great! Im eager to use it, thanks man & great video btw!

  • Play that funky music!

  • @Legitllama1 Thank you very much!

  • Hey there, what can i use to convert this mic from the XLR to USB so i can use my Macbook to record guitar and the vocal? Pls reply.. thanks! :)

  • @domeee11 Hi! I would recommend just doing a Google search for "XLR to USB".

You should make sure that whatever interface you're using, has phantom power though, good luck!

  • @JoeBarnardMusic yes man, i know there are plenty of item that can provide Phantom Power too.. but im new in recording stuff.. anyways, im thinking of editors keys sl150 lol

  • @ferrariic :D

  • I love how that one cymbal is just hanging from the ceiling XD

  • @Dave9494 Hahaha yeah! That's what you gotta do when you don't want to pay the ridiculous prices for a regular boom stand.

  • Sweet

  • @MrKozeljko Thank you!

  • hey man, can you tell me what interface you used in this video to connect the mics to your computer? btw, nice mic stand subkick :p

  • @TheUsed707 SUBKICK! That's the word for it! Hahaha I couldn't figure out what I should call frequencies that low for the longest time...

As for interfaces, here's the rundown:

The 990 is running through an M-Audio Audio Buddy, Boss RC-2 loop pedal, then into a line input on a Behringer UB1202.

The 991 is plugged directly into the 1202 via XLR of course with 48v phantom power.

From there, I pan each mic to the left and right so I can run them via RCA cable from the tape out, to my M-Audio 1010lt

  • @JoeBarnardMusic

Hello...nice video...pleas help..I want to to buy MXL 990/991 and I only need this mic for acoustic guitar with Boss rc2 loop pedal. Why you running 990 through an M-Audio Audio Buddy? Why not direct to Behringer mixer like 991??

Sory on my bad English grammar - Thanks!

  • @TheUsed707 Okay, right. The M-Audio 1010lt is a big fancy sound card that I bought a few months ago. After the card, the digital signal is going into Adobe Audition!

Hope this helps, and let me know if you want to know more! (I could write a 15 page paper on this setup...)

  • You make me want to get a loop thingy...haha.

  • @birkuscircus If you can get the money together for one, they're the best investment you'll ever make. I use mine (Boss RC-2) every day, and it's really great for practicing!

  • I saw your comment on MysteryGuitarMan's video, so i searched you up and i was impressed. Subscribed. I wish you the best.

  • @GeeDeeProductions Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!

  • Wow @.@ That was epic :D

  • @DanieltheError Thank you!

  • I just bought the 990! :D I'm gonna do similar things, guranteed haha

  • @11breinke Cool! Send me a message if/when you put a video of it up!

  • I dig the fact that the 991 sounds so nice alone with the drums. I was kinda scared to mic my drums before :P

  • @33Deer33 Yeah It really sounds awesome! The only eq on the 991 is a little boost in the 80Hz range for the bass drum to come through more clearly. And then of course I added a little reverb for sparkle as well ;D

The only thing I would warn about for micing drums with the 991, is that it's loud. Like very loud. A -10db pad switch on the mic would have been helpful. I had to put my preamp pretty low for it to not clip.

  • @JoeBarnardMusic Alrighty, thanks ;)

  • Cool, very creative

  • @homieGisnice Thanks!
